Good time to be a DC comic fan.

>I believe in the power of these icons. I believe in the power of hope, and optimism. I don’t think it’s fake. People tend to say if it’s grim, and gritty, it’s real, and grounded. I refuse that … And I don’t care if it stirs up drama. But I want it to be drama in the right way. I think Gary and I have earned the right to do a story we believe in. With Rebirth, I think we proved we care, and take this seriously. We love Watchmen. We love the DC Universe.
Have you ever seen someone get high off their own supply? You have now.

I think these hype threads are the proof big 2 comics are as dumb as they are because their fans are gullible enough to take this marketing ordeal as "art" and not just because the writers and editors are often hacks

I'm thinking not. It's OK for a standalone series or a prequel to that series, but if he's going to be a regular character they'll either position him so you can't see it or redesign him.

Bruce isn't a nihilist. A pragmatist when he's forced to face hard facts, but the fact he even bothers with the cape crusader thing shows he hopes for something.

Also I wouldn't call Walter a nihilist either, he recognized the unrelenting nature of the world much like Jon and Adrian, but like Adrian he still persisted to see to it that something was done no matter the means, or ends.

How will they power creep the rest of the Minutemen (Comedian, Nite-Owl, etc.) after giving Ozymandias such a huge ability boost?
>>
>>92400062
Nite Owl will be a Batman clone. If Rorshach is alive in this universe (and wasn't already vaporized by Manhattan), he'll be Nite Owl's sidekick.

The Comedian will probz rely on his weapons/grenade launcher, Silk Spectre will probably be with Manhattan and have no discernible powers other than being the Doc's fuck meat

>>
>>92400062
I don't think the other Watchmen characters will actually appear - at least not as active characters interacting with the DC crew. They might be part of flashbacks, but I don't think we'll see them somehow teaming up with Manhattan to face the Justice League.
>>
This is the same shit Miyazaki was talking about when he said that the problem with anime was that it was full of otaku making it (and I think Moore said something very similar regarding American mainstream comics).
Good comic book writers, even when writing meta stuff like Moore and Morrison did in the early days, obviously wrote looking out the window, at the real world and the real people in it. The only window Johns looks at is the inner window of his office, where he can see Lee and Didio drinking slushies and flexing their muscles.
>>
>>92400751
Moore is a pothead who worships a snake with hair and Morrison was a shut-in in his youth, neither of them know what the real world is like.
>>
>>92399003
Saw this get mentioned in another thread
>watchmen universe doesnt have DC's shining beacon which is superman
>doomsday clock will be focused mostly on manhattan and superman
10 bucks says the story will be about the death of superman but without superman
>>
>>92399046
They'll just give him old mr shadow crotch like they do everytime a character is naked or he will have some nice blue undies.
>>
>>92400790
Read their comics and you'll be surprised. Specially Moore. He knows how to make his characters feel human, even when their wearing capes and underwear on the outside.
>>
>>92400790
Neither of them learnt to write by just reading capeshit.
>>
Wasn't this faggot booted out to write for movies?
>>
>>92400751
At least it's still better than comic books being written by people who don't actually care for stories or characters and just view them as their own long-form political cartoon.
>>
>>92401170
No, his CCO job is more nerdy than that. He is basically a living encyclopedia but he also works as a liaison to let legal know if there's a rights issue they need fixed.

And though he wasn't writing anything coming out he was basically the head editor to Rebirth.
>>
>>92399058
It's entertainment, it's not supposed to be some high water mark of art just as much as asoiaf and Westworld aren't.
>>
>>92399534
>>92399652
Doesn't work unless Bruce was in on it, Tim knew he was forming a JLA and Snyder said it was also part of his plan
>>
>>92402078
But that's the defense fanboys are using. When people point out that it's cheap and arguably offensively stupid to drag Watchmen through the mud they say we just don't get the deeper, hope-fulfilling message and that Johns is using the propriety masterfully to deliver a smart critique of modern comics. In the other thread people were talking about applauding the man

Or alternatively they'll call Watchmen crap and say they're glad Johns is rightfully shitting on Moore and his toxic legacy which is totally his fault i swear he forced me to write edgy capeshit that takes itself too seriously
>>
>>92402621
Johns has never written edgy capeshit that take itself too seriously though. His books are pure fun.

What the fuck does anything of what you just said has anything to do with my post?
Johns has written a whole bunch of grim and gritty crap in his comics, only to swing back to talk about hope, showing us that he's completely incapable of any sort of nuance or sophistication.
I love how everybody sucks his dick for this when him, Lee, Didio and all the gang were the same people who did New52, DCYou and all that shit that everybody supposedly hated so much.

>>
>>92405047
>him, Lee, Didio and all the gang were the same people who did New52, DCYou

I don't have a source for you, but Johns certainly wasn't behind the New52
Supposedly, Didio told him to change the ending of Flashpoint to the creation of the new universe
Do you think he would have bothered with all that shit about reintroducing Martian Manhunter, Firestorm, Reverse-Flash, Jade, Hawkman etc. during Brightest Day if he knew in advance that New 52 would change them completely? Aquaman and Green Lantern only survived unchanged because they were his properties
Hell, his whole gimmick is about bringing back old concepts and wrangling continuity, the New52 must have been like cutting off the dick of a porn star for him
And by DCyou he all but left comics, except for JL
>>
>>92404139
I was thinking this as well. There may be some combat early on, but I feel this is going to be resolved via debate. And Superman will win when he overcomes every attempt of Manhattan to force a compromise of Superman's adherence to his ideology. Superman will eventually win when he makes Manhattan realize that he does in fact have a stake in the well being and care of Earth.

Warner bothers called for the nu 52 reboot, not johns. Johns is the one shoving some things back in cannon.

Johns always been a de-booter.
>>
>>92406671
Dude, the reboot itself isn't the problem. The whole aesthetic behind it was, and it wasn't WB who decided it. That was Johns, Lee and Didio.
And you said very well, "shoving", because that's the only way Johns knows how to do shit. He's now shoving Watchmen into main DC continuity.
>>
>>92406788
Nope. Wrong my bro. Didio said warner asked them to do it. Sales was in the shitter line wide. Geoff also admitted he hates taking out things.

Nu52 was and is a success until rebirth came, now they're just re adding things in and making movement. Creating a buzz.

Shoving stuff in is what lasped fans want. They was pissed at back issues and relationships removed.

Yes, Warner told them to do it, but not how. That was all Didio, Lee and Johns. And he could've left if he was against what they were doing with his characters (guess who did that? Moore) but he stood there and wrote a bunch of books, including The Justice League. So he can say he really didn't wanna do it all the times he wants to, but the truth is that he did it, and continued doing it until nowadays.

>fans want.
And this brings me back to my original point of this whole thing being what Miyazaki said about anime. It's fans writing shit that fans want, and that's not good at all. You need somebody who aspires to reach for something better than mere continuity and references.
>>
>>92406671
Warner Bros and more likely Nelson wanted higher sales and Didio and Lee thought the reboot was the only way they could achieve that.

It's sad, this guys are so ignorant that think watchman it's to blame for everything they don't like, we are talking about manchildren, johnsfags and casuals that actually think johns is doing some meta story when in reality its just a gimmick, they believe the bullshit Johns says in the interviews when is clearly just a PR stunt. This story will be generic uninspired shit by a mediocre writer.

We had Pax Americana, and in a single issue Morrison did more with the IP that Johns and his team of idiots will. but hey, we will see toys...

What's your What I Got supposed to symbolise? And I didn't mind until their deaths, they were fun, Sloan especially was DCAU-Luthor levels of great, but even more keikaku-y.

Ultrahumanite was shit though

>What's your What I Got supposed to symbolise?
An abusive relationship.

>Sloan especially was DCAU-Luthor levels of great
He was, which is what made it so shameful. Remember that Society began written and edited by the hack duo responsible for the worst of World's End. Diggle was the one that came on and salvaged what was left. Sloan was great. He deserved a better death, and Jimmy arbitrarily deciding to go evil was just dumb and poorly executed IMO. Agree on UH.

I don't think you know what cynical means. Those were emotional deaths that carried a lot of weight in the story and affected Superman in a meaningful way, not some splash page reveal meant to sell comics out of outrage. It's the exact opposite of cynical.
Bright colors and happy thoughts are usually more cynical than sad things.
>>
>>92410510
I think after that point it was impressive how nearly every decision they made after that point was wrong.

Remember that time Atom died to make a giant hole in the ground for no reason which they immediately abandoned also for no reason?
>>
>>92411162
The reading list is literally just the Johns one-shot from last year and The Button.

Why do people assume comics are more confusing than they are?

Marvel fan here.

I don't give a fuck what color/gender/whatever the characters are as long as they get good writing.

Kamala is a decent example of this. "Diverse" character with a good first run. Of course, Marvel's shit direction ran her into the fucking ground not too long after.

I havent kept up with DC since nu52 began because of muh continuity

It looks like a major clusterfuck as an outsider right now, so what can i read to have a rough idea of whats going on?
>>
>>92423451

This. Johns just doesn't have the literature or knowledge to get away with it. his manhattan voice is really off, and we just started. Darkseid war was already terrible
>>
>>92423514
Just don't give a shit about continuity and enjoy comics.
>>
>>92423514
If you don't really know DC continuity, Rebirth isn't going to help you much. Rebirth is all about fixing the DCU after it got fucked by New 52. It's pretty inside-baseball, not really for neophytes.

If you're a fan of DC up to New 52, read Rebirth. It's basically porn.
>>
>>92423596
>rebirth

After that, read Flash: Rebirth #1 and the crossover The Button in Batman and The Flash. There's also Rebirth-related plot threads in Superman and Titans but that'll pretty much get you caught up on the major developments.

bruce is working on building an army of sorts after the events of DCU Rebirth (whether this is for the Metal event or something larger is unknown yet)

so he assembled the tec team, jla, and recruited more lanterns (cruz and baz) as well as ensuring dick and damian made connections with the titans

of course batman is a busy guy and so got manhunter to lead JLA for him because he's not able to be literally everywhere at once

this is all speculation btw
>>
>>92427412
what if it's tied to Killer Frost, who has been a prominent character in JLA?
since she can absorb heat and fire, maybe she is there to help keep up Jonn's disguise?
