To answer your question, the show doesn't include anything Reddit, Tumblr, or 4chan has a hard on for. Instead it tells the coming of age for a boy with a magical destiny thrown on him. Think Sailor Moon if if Usagi was a chubby little boy.

While show also has a message of love and understanding underlying the whole thing it isn't rubbed in your face. It just comes as a natural consequence of these characters dealing with life.

It has good characters and a bright aesthetic, but it isn't afraid to get dark every now and again.

I'd say watch the first 25 episodes. They're short so it isn't too big of a demand on your time. Typically by the end of episode 25 you'll know if you want to continue to watch.

Zuke skipped all of the development between Barn Mates and Beta, and just made them super close besties. Both episodes were boarded by Zuke and Hilary, and the entirety of the Lapidot segment in Beta was boarded by Zuke.
You need to view it through the lens of a shipfag. Lapidot was a somewhat popular ship before Lapis and Peridot even shared screentime. The idea of them living together, being best friends, sitting around watching shitty Canadian TV dramas, making art, and being miles away from anyone who can hear them fuck would be a wet dream for any Lapidot shipper.

The similarities between Aqua/Lapis and Topaz/Jasper are ridiculously uncanny, to the extent that it is impossible that not a single crewniverse member was like 'hey, they look similar'. It's clearly intentional, whether it's a parallel to their relationship or something even deeper in regards to the lore, say for example, them being Era 2 Lapis and Jasper's.
