Yes, it was a terrible plan. It would have killed countless quadrillions at the least, and even if he managed to succeed, he would have found his loneliness only magnified.

What he THOUGHT he wanted was to spread. What he ACTUALLY wanted was someone like Pete - he wanted immortals that he could have companionship with.

But he's an obsessive idiot, so the instant Pete disagrees with him, Ego throws him aside.

It's an inherently self-destructive scenario. There was no happy ending for Ego that didn't start with him realizing how much of an asshole he'd been, and he was too damn blind to.

If he had stayed with Meredith...maybe he would have learned. He came so damn close to figuring out how not to be evil.

>What he THOUGHT he wanted was to spread. What he ACTUALLY wanted was someone like Pete - he wanted immortals that he could have companionship with.
Ehhh, I don't think that's quite it.

It's absolutely true that he wanted meaning and companionship, but the tragedy of the character is that he had found that love in Peter's mother and that meaning in Peter.

He admits as much, his entire reason for putting the tumor in Peter's mom is to stop himself from abandoning his (ultimately unfulfilling) plans.

He feels that his mission is greater than his own wants, despite his own wants being the thing that created the mission. He loses sight of what his true goal is because of his inflated EGO

Yes, yes they do.
>>
>>92172226
Look up the original guardians. Stallone is Stakar/ Star Hawk
>>
>>92172226
Stalone was Starhawk. The rest were Aleta (the girl), Martinex (the ice-faced man), Krugarr (the red lizard-wizard), Charlie-27 (the big black guy), and Mainframe (the robotic head).

They were the OG Guardians/Guardians 3000.
>>
>>92172226
The original Guardians of the Galaxy though it seems like they're known as the ravagers in the MCU

Stallone was Staakar/Starhawk
Crystal guy played by Michael Rosenbaum was Martinex
Robot head voiced by Miley Cyrus was Mainframe
Big black guy played by Ving Rhames is Charlie-27
Red magic serpent was Krugarr
Asian woman played by Michelle Yeoh was Aleta

I hope they become more relevant in Vol 3 or we get a one-off spin-off

Probably because of Gunn wanting Peter to be the absolute only human in space. That's likely why we haven't seen Nova either, he wants to keep Peter unique and alone. Also keeps the Guardians as a group consisting of the only/last of their kind (assuming Drax's people were eradicated, which is all but confirmed) in the Galaxy.

He thought he was the only worthy being, so he wanted to replace all life with his planet spores thus being able to go/create/stay anywhere.

Once he was everything he would have been happy and just chilled, that's why his name was ego. Notice how he had a museum about himself on himself, so he could properly explain himself to another part of himself.

OR they get sent a thousand years into the future in Guardians Vol. 3 and meet Yondu's tribal descendant who reveres his great x 20 grandfather, proud of his connection to the ancient legendary heroes, the Guardians of the Galaxy. He used it for his characters.

Also, the porno movies.
>>
>>92177619
Either made a deal or they used a loophole. They can show Watchers in their films but he can't be Uatu, something like that. Just like they can use Skrulls but no named ones or Super Skrulls.
>>
>>92177566
Secret Wars had a peculiar way to cancel books
>>
>>92177619
We don't know. One would assume they were with the FF rights, killing off The Watcher seems like a very "we don't have his movie rights so get rid of him" move, and they haven't been in any of the "no FF/X characters allowed" games/posters/shirts/etc.

But there have been no statements one way or the other, and if they did make a trade, we don't know what Fox would have asked for/gotten in return.

Well, we don't know how powerful Thanos is in the MCU, just that everyone is scared shitless of him.

There's the actual Celestials, as shown by the Collector.

And now that we know that there's Watchers in the MCU, the gallery of cosmic beings is beginning to look like it could have the big guys like Beyonder, Eternity, etc.

We know Galactus is out of the question for now, though.
>>
>>92177619
I think most of their cosmic stuff is safe, but if the couldn't use them, the didn't actually name them in the movie, but i'm not sure if they can use this as a loophole

>There's the actual Celestials, as shown by the Collector.
Of which Ego is one. They're his peers. And that's presuming they're even AROUND anymore, the clip could've been millennia old. It'd even help explain his loneliness.

Furthermore you can't pull "We don't know how powerful Thanos is in the MCU" only to turn around and act like five fucking seconds is enough to go on for power levels. All we know for sure about Celestial #1 is that he's tall and can hold the Power Stone without exploding. Ego waved his cosmic cock around for ~2 hours. It doesn't really compare.

Not to mention those big guy cosmic being Beyonder Eternities HAVEN'T shown up yet and AREN'T canon to the setting until they do. Sentry beat Ego's ass in 616, doesn't make it relevant here. As of this movie's moment in time Kurt Russell Ego is/was the most explicitly powerful entity in the corporeal MCU.

Maybe as his own personal set of playtoys after Infinity War and GoG Vol.3 means Marvel takes the reins of the franchise; Starlord and co. do whatever the Mouse House deems profitable, he gets to use the original Guardians team as he sees fit with no need to tie them into massive event crossover bullshit,

That was such a hype moment. I just wish the battle between Peter and Ego was a little less MoS and a little more Doctor Manhattan.

By the way, I really like the idea that Ego is a Celestial who, for some reason, never got the armoured body and was left with a free-floating divine mind. We know Celestials have the armour and such in the MCU, so it seems almost like Ego was the Celestial equivalent of an abortion, or a child left to fend for itself.

We don't know if Ego is a capital C Celestial. He calls himself one, but that's that.

Maybe in the MCU, Celestials will just be a category of big cosmic guys, rather than one specific group.

Or maybe in a future movie they'll go like
>The Celestials are coming!
>Quill: My dad was a Celestial. And we killed him.
>Who, Ego? He wasn't a celestial, THESE are the Celestials

Then the Celestials come up and wreck shit.

Again, what do you have to go on to believe either of these other than "but in the comics..."?
Even in the comics, Ego being a suitless Celestial in the comics would make a lot more sense than about 3/4ths of his multiple origins.

Maybe they'll introduce them properly as the race we know, and Ego will get demoted.

So we wait and see.

I've known about him since I was ~10.
Me mum bought me a Marvel annual, with comic stories based off/in the 90s cartoon universe. Ego was central to the Silver Surfer bit (literally; he was introduced via mid-story splash page).
I didn't know who the fuck Collector or Grandmaster or Ronan were pre-MCU but I knew Ego. Guess it's given me a soft spot for him. See also: The Stranger. he was a mysterious bogeyman that cameoed in all the individual stories and played the villain of the final one. Shit I honestly thought he was who Benicio Del Toro was meant to be when I saw the Thor 2 stinger.

I normally just tear up in movies. When Yondu basically called Peter his son and then died for him I had tears streaming down my face. I wasn't weeping or anything but the tears kept coming.

And then when he gave that little speech about how his dad was basically who he'd hoped for all along, including fighting robots I laughed but it was also touching.

And then when the Ravagers gave him a real funeral after all.

And when Rocket was shocked that everyone didn't abandon Yondu, and he had that tear stream down his face.

I don't think Bendis is cucked at all. Aside from changing J'son for Ego, Gunn did the whole "father is an asshole royal" only instead of "wealthy royal" Ego is "space entity royal". Hell, the scenes on the palace almost resemble Bendis' Spartax palace.

And, as bad as Bendis did J'son, there's still depth on his carácter in the way of his conflicto between the man he used to be with Meredith and the man he is now. With Ego, you have generic Marvel villian who has to be irrediemable bad because the Guardians can't end up looking worse, and with a very ridiculous endgame to boot.

Ego realized that mortal life was a tragedy; he believed that immortality was the only valid form of life. So, he wanted to burn away all of the mortal life in order to acquire enough energy to travel back to the genesis of the universe and make all life immortal, like him. But the one whose life empowered him to complete his plan did not agree with him, and - at the end - showed him exactly what mortality was. In his final moments, he realized the value of mortal life and regretted his plan and his decisions.

I like that her character and the rest of her golden skinned race are more or less symbolic of the typical shenanigans the Guardians get up to, and thus their typical shenanigans are never really resolved so you really feel like the adventures are continuing.

My main gripe with the film was more so that the vast majority of scenes felt like they went on 5-10 minutes longer than they needed to.

Like the punchline would be evident in the first few minutes, then the rest of the scene would just be them beating the joke to death over and over.

Examples:
>Rocket doesn't get sarcasm, better have him do the improper wink/voice like 5 fucking times so the audience gets it.
>Taserface is a retarded name, better have 5 minutes of Rocket making fun of his name, then having other characters laugh at the name over and over, just in case the audience is too stupid to get it apparently.
>Groot just doesn't understand! Better have him grab 5-6 different objects and make the scene 300% longer than it needed to be just to make it abundantly clear to the audience just how clueless Baby Groot is.

It got exhausting after awhile, the movie seems like it was written from the perspective of "the target audience are literal retards, how do I best communicate this joke to them?"

Every piece of serious analysis determined that ZUNE was superior to the ipod available in the same year.

But being "superior" was just not good enough. iPod was a fashion accessory, and as such you get an ipod not becaue it is better than Zune, but because it is what everyone is using.

Portable music players are just not that different from each other, and MS was not about to promote their greater features because the features never mattered that much.
It would have been fine if ipod had some critical flaw MS could exploit. But ipod was good enough, and it had better marketing.

Basically, a Zune didn't have the brand of Apple, so it was competing against literally every MP3 player in the market, which were often way cheaper than either and offer the same actual functionality for 90% of users who don't really need a lot of bells and whistles. People who wanted an itunes experience got the actual itunes, and people who instead got their own mp3s got other mp3s. There was little space for Zune to wedge itself in.

Why the hell did he even say that? He was SO close to getting Quill over to his side, and he would've made it if he hadn't said that.

As cathartic and "oooohh shit"-inducing the moment was, it was pretty nonsensical and out-of-character in retrospect.

If they could mix the jokes they shoehorned into the dramatic scenes better it would've been a 9/10.
The funeral was probably the only scene where they did that right. "I guess I kinda did have Hasslehof as my dad"
>>
>>92195740
It wasn't out of character. He just assumed Peter would agree with him at this point. They had already had the Sailor and the Sea talk, he just told Quill that he killed every one of his hundreds or thousands of half-siblings, and Quill didn't even bat an eye. He was basically opening up to what he thought was the kindred spirit, the Godling son he'd been longin for.
>>
>>92195887
Either Marvel made a deal similar to the one they made for Ego (it's not like Fox would have ever used the Watcher anyway), or it turns out they actually had the rights to him all along against all logic as was the case with Ronan the Accuser for some reason.
>>
>>92193775
The whole scene is meant to be absurd. They're in the middle of a battle between them, a giant living planet, and a space fleet and one of them needs tape. Star-lord takes the time to look for tape; you can hear him yelling about tape, whether or not the people he's asking actually hears him or he's doing it just to appease rocket doesn't matter, he's taking the time to do either. The point was levity in a rather intense moment.

he does not think anything he did was wrong, he is not being sneaky or scheming. He is telling Quill everything he did to get to his goal, he is highlighting how important the goal is. He does not once lie the entire time. He is a "god" and his name is Ego he does not see failure in Quill because Quill is like him so he should have agreed with everything he was doing. From Ego's pov the more committed he is to his goal the more Quill can see the utility and help him with it. He was willing to rule with him, but then said I'll just make you a battery for a thousand years since you are being difficult, implying that he'd free him once his goal was done and still rule with him... not a bad father, just maybe insane.

>Moondragon's clothes: problematic or empowering?
The main issue is that that kind of superhero body can't be maintained for an entire film production. So the problem isn't nudity, but that the actress couldn't keep up the physical training to look that good for all her appearances.

Essentially, it just isn't practical. You might get the actor/actress to show their skin for the first week or so of filming, when they are at their physical peak, but after that the expectation is that they would film the rest of the scenes fully clothed so they can hide their normalising bodies.

What it boils down to is that if you want her to look like that the whole film, she would basically need to be CGI.

But that's his running gag.

>>92179476

No, YOU fuck off. Starlord was miles away from his original concept - this is actually a little bit CLOSER now!
The original Starlord, Peter Quill, was bitter, morose, antisocial and full of vengeful hate against the aliens who murdered his mother. Not a 'Friends' character. The Master of the Sun offered him the opportunity to make more of himself, and he would grow as a character by visiting each of the planets in the solar system in turn (chakras?) until he would truly be worthy of the name Star-Lord.

Rocket was created to be a prison guard by the robots who were created by the ancients to watch over the loonies. Basically: immortals are all going insane, but they don't want to become Violent and Deranged, so they create robots to watch over them and keep them preoccupied with toys. The robots are full bore AI who get bored of playing the keepers, and decide to shirk their purpose off on some other hapless sods, so they "created" a slew of uplifted animals to serve as watchers and entertainment for the immortal loonies.
