Not following this book, but knowing the basics about batman beyond and actually following some bat books in rebirth, is this series worth a read?

Keep in mind that I was one of the people who grow with the animated series and liked it a lot.

To understand what's actually going on you'll need to read New 52 Future's End which is considered as garbage by many people. Personally I don't think it's that bad but still a mediocre series with lots of pointless subplots and predictable twists.
New 52 and current Beyond runs aren't great but it still has the potential to turn out good. I know I'm giving Jurgens too much hope but I still want to believe he can pull it off somehow.

I'm pretty sure this is the first time they've shown Dick with his original Robin uniform post New 52 - although the uniform by itself already had made a cameo.

With Superman Reborn bringing back a 15 years timeline, maybe it also extended Dick's Robin period and he wore the original suit again.

The original Beyond had a cameo in the recent Superman multiverse arc, although it was basically just that, a cameo. One panel with the older DCAU Superman joining the multiverse league and the other future JLU members around him (including Terry), and a background cameo in the next issue.
