Whats tragic is that his dad has to work an entire labor intensive business and live in a van just to support the son he never sees nor can help raise who lives in a a fucking BEACHSIDE ESTATE with top amenities and all the food/drinks he desires.

His son doesn't even know the family name, that he even has extended family, or really anything about his family's past that he hasn't discovered in the span of the shows run, meaning for 14 years he just vaguely knew about his parents.

To be totally fair, there's no reason to expect that any of the gems would know how to do that. They outright admit in in The Test that, though it isn't for lack of trying, they're poor teachers and have no idea what Steven actually needs to grow as a person.

I know it's been said before in this thread, but it really kind of is Greg's fault. He shouldn't have handed total guardianship of Steven over to the gems. He's right they he couldn't handle "the alien stuff", but Steven's not 100% alien, just like he's not 100% gem. Handing him over to the gems just ensured Steven will never grow into either aspect of his heritage.

This is true, and she has a hard time rewiring herself. Honestly I think that's good character writing how Rose couldn't fix her problem of being a natural servant by coming to Rose but instead just shifted the focus. I think it would be that Steven will help her become truly independent, but I honestly think the best outcome is for her to reach it herself (with help of course, but the big steps need to be taken by her alone).
