Standoff really fucked up Absorbing Man, given the drama in the issue before the relationship drama between him and Titania it didn't feel forced.

Starbrand has the titular mark which generates unlimited energy, making him one of the most powerful beings in Marvel that's not a conceptual entity. Nightmask is the humanoid form of Earth's defense system. Because of the events of Hickman's Avengers leading up to Secret Wars, they ended up hanging out together. Starbrand blew up his college when he first got his powers.

The premise of the comic was Nightmask wanting Starbrand to enroll in college to help him reconnect with humanity because he was worried about all the power at his disposal making him into a cold god. The characters had good chemistry and supporting cast, but it was cancelled and so only got six issues. A lot of stuff was clearly being set up that would have been cool if it all got the chance to play out.
