I'm honestly fine with a lot of the cgi in the special editions, but idk about this scene. On one hand, it's rendered redundant by Greedo's conversation with Han and honestly jumps the gun on revealing who Jabba is. On the other hand, it helps to flesh out their relationship a little more.

Either way, at least Jabba doesn't look like he had a stroke anymore.

Watch out for that vicious bounty hunter Boba Fett, Luke. Did I ever tell you I fought his father? He was hired to assassinate a senator me and your father were guarding. We kept bringing her around open windows and public areas in order to draw the would-be assassin out because we knew he had too much pride to just shoot her from long range. He had used his payment to hire another bounty hunter to kill the senator for him while he sent us on a wild bantha chase. Also the 2nd assassin used her payment to buy a robot to assassinate the senator for her. Did I mention the 2nd assassin was a shapeshifter? She could have been in disguise and just shot the senator for all we knew! Then the robot used its payment to buy poisonous bugs to release into the senator's room while she slept after lasering a hole through the window. It could have just lasered her too after that because we we weren't watching her at all, but it already bought the bugs. So we sense the hostile life forms (not the robot) in the room and rush in and save the senator in the nick of time! Then I jumped out the window to chase the robot back to its owner! Luckily it didn't have a self-destruct function. Then we found the 2nd assassin and chased her across the planet, and caught her when she tried to kill us instead of shapeshifting and escaping. But to our surprise, Jango Fett was watching the whole thing instead of going to kill the senator while we were away chasing the bugs chasing the robot chasing the shapeshifter. He shot her with a poisonous dart instead of sniper blaster, and only her instead of shooting all of us or blowing all of us with a rocket or something, then he escaped with his tiny jetpack. Luckily for the senator, my good friend Dexter Jettster owned a 50s diner on Coruscant that had Republic secrets on the menu along with cheeseburgers and malt shakes. We found the assassin and Mace Windu killed him later, right in front of Boba. And he was a good friend

TIEs are extraordinary powerful. The ls1 cannons are powerful enough to destroy full shielded starfighters and corvettes. So what they're short ranged? They're typically deployed by a massive SD with full escorts. Outside drama rules, no one was dumb enough to attack the Empire aside from fringe groups. Read the novels, people were terrified to see them. Same goes for Stormtroopers. They're mooks for the heroes to escape but once live action/animation fades people know they're the real deal.
>>
>>91128877
In Empire at War, when the bigger ships have hardpoints you can shoot to knock out weapons systems, one thing I always wondered was that if I could command my fleets to take out specific gun turrets or hangar bays, why not have them just always shoot at the middle of the Nebulons.

>>
>>91129008
Pretty much. As we see in Rebels there was already a significant fleet and forces before Scarif and the Death Star, but that was the point where they really stirred something up. The Death Star especially inspired a lot of people to rise up since now they saw that it actually was possible to wreck the Empire's shit.
>>
>>91129027
If Tarkin didn't get him, you can bet that Vader would ensure that his aspirations were firmly choked
>>
>>91128980
I don't know if that's still the case. While it's possible, they don't really look anything like the consistent triangle designs of the Imperial capships (ISD, Interdictor, Arquitens, Venator, Quasar Fire, cargo ship), but then again the Gozanti isn't really triangular either so who knows.

>>91129008
That definition sort of depends. The Rebel Alliance had officially convened at 2bby, which you saw in Secret Cargo on Rebels, but the first major engagement that proved their mettle was at Scarif, mentioned by Tagge in ANH, and the Battle of Yavin is when shit got serious and it became a truly galactic civil war.

Coruscant was completely loyal to the Empire they had zero reason not to be. They were the crown jewell of the empire super rich and powerful. Them cheering on Sheev's death mad no sense especially now that nucanon made it clear that Coruscant lost its position as the most important and influential planet in the galaxy.

I don't mind the space boat. But it lacks something to me. Perhaps just side engines on a swivel would've been enough or something like that.

Maybe take inspiration from some cargo planes as well and so on.

Bad Screenwriting. They hadnt figured out lightsabers yet.

How about this explain why Leia remembers her mother when she dies 1 minute after her birth.

Explain why Leia was set up as Lukes love interest and then turned into his sister?

George Lucas is insanely inconsistent

Sure.

Got nothing on this.

>>no point defense on the Death Star
It is space WW2 and the DS is equipped with a ton of flak and heavier turrets as we see during the attack. However it's not built to combat small craft because noone expected anyone to do that shit.

It's like saying that you're mad that the Bismark had shit AA guns.

>>not even a fucking grate over the exhaust port
It is an exhaust port with a flaw that noone really knew about. A grate would probably only have made it worse for venting and ultimately would've just been shot off or ripped apart by the torps.

>>obi wan calling anakin a good friend after he chopped off 3 of his arms and left him to burn in a lake of lava
What are good memories of their time before Anakin became Vader.

>>can't be sand people, only stormtroopers are this precise, when they can take potshots in TPM and hit podracers going hundreds of miles an hour
Perhaps he was talking about the way that the crawler was taken out too? Stormtroopers might've been aiming at specific parts to disable it. That said this sentence is silly if only for their lack of precision later. TPM came after though so if anything that would be an inconsitency there if anything.

If Rex and Cody were to run into each other in Rebels, how would their meeting go?

I see it as going like this:
>Rex with Ghost crew infiltrating the Imperial Academy on Carida (idk what their reasoning would be at this point)
>Cody stationed there, overseeing the training of stormtroopers as well as a guard garrison
>shtf and the crew are detected
>Cody is not blind and deploys his garrison
>Ghost crew split up (idfk why) and plan to rendezvous at the hangar where the ship is
>Rex is the first one to reach the hangar with only a few maintenance crew in the vicinity
>Rex is about to throw a distraction thermal detonator when a squad of troopers enter
>Rex tosses the detonator at the squad, only the squad leader and two other troopers survive.
>He manages to gun down the two remaining stormtroopers, but is pinned down by the squad leader
>squad leader isn't just a regular squad leader, turns out Cody himself (again, idfk why a senior officer would personally oversee this)
>the two have gun battle which then devolves into a fistfight while they banter/argue about duty, loyalty, etc.
>Cody seems to have gained the upper hand when the rest of the crew arrives and intervenes
>Cody is pinned down by Kanan and Ezra as Imperial reinforcements arrive
>massive firefight breaks out as the crew makes their escape
>Cody recovers and reloads his blaster, aims it at Rex, and fires, wounding him right after he made it inside the boarding ramp
>Cody realizes that he just shot his best friend and is taken aback at himself
>Ghost takes off
>Cody gets a call from AA, asking for permission to engage, he orders them to stand down.

Hey, reading is reading, man, no worries.

I'm glad you like it. Any particular things you're enjoying? I just really like the way it's written, myself. It's really cool getting inside Jyn's head and seeing how she thinks, and how pumped up Krennic is inside his own brain.

>>91130210
I'll tell you what I said to the other guy:

"Did you ever read the Rogue One novel? It actually adds some pretty cool stuff, and is very well-written besides.
All Jyn knows is that "The Man In White" is very bad, and he's plagued her nightmares the entire time she's grown up. He's a recurring figure in her mind, along with the cave she was hiding in while waiting for Saw. It becomes a metaphor for how she closes herself off from others.

What's even better is Krennic's reaction at seeing the Death Star above Scarif. At first, of course, he feels rage, but he takes comfort in the fact that he thinks Tarkin is an imbecile who doesn't realize the station's true potential, and that all Tarkin's future victories would be won with HIS achievement.

And then, right before the laser fires, he closes his eyes and imagines himself where he should be, on the DS1's bridge, about to fire on the planet below. But he catches it in his mind's eye-- Galen's treachery, a half-forgotten e-mail chain about exhaust ports. And then he dies realizing what Galen had done.

Basically, what Catalyst did for Rogue One, the novel does for the movie, to a lesser extent."

Here's the thing. I think his motivation is beyond using Galen. He sees potential in Galen, that Galen obviously doesn't see in himself. He knows how hard they both worked to get there, and Krennic wants to prove he's worth something. In strolls Galen, who worked just as hard, and has come from the dirt, but he doesn't see that same worth in himself. That same potential. In Krennics mind, he really was helping him. He spent YEARS trying to help Galen and he helped him to be successful. He knew him better than anyone, they were closer than anyone could be. In swings Lyra. Lyra basically takes Krennics years of hard work in trying to get Galen to notice him (after being the only one who cared to listen to him) and basically Yoko Ono'd them. That's why he dislikes her. Krennic has all these aspirations and dreams, and she comes in and is the one who drives them apart.

When he finally gets him back, he's saying "see! I'm successful and everything she wasn't' but Galen is too depressed to see it. So Krennic spent all of this time proving himself, and making himself all special for the one person who would never notice him. He lives a sad life because the person who he wanted there next to him left him alone. I don't think he intended to kill her, he wanted to bring him back happy. It really was her own fault she was shot. She could have escaped. in his mind, she was asking for it. And it only served to drive them further apart.

fucks my shit up real hard, thinking about it.

I don't think his motivations are as closely tied to Galen per-se, but I do agree with a lot of that.

I also think that the two were genuinely friends at one point, but Krennic just has an over-inflated, completely different ideal of what success means. For Krennic, it means being the center of attention: The life of the party, the one in charge, with livery to match. Fast cars, gigantic houses, rare shuttles, and anti-static capes.

For Galen, he strives toward an ideal of himself that is so high that it's impossible for him to reach it. He wants to be smart enough to save the galaxy, and is so obsessive that he'd descend into madness if Lyra didn't show up and keep him rooted in reality.

Let's agree to respectfully disagree. In the novel, he talks about how he is the only one who really understands Galen. How he had to remind him to eat, or sleep. I think at one point, he truly did love Galen more than anything. But then Galen chose her over him, and left him all alone. Galen reminds him of himself, in a strange way. But he simply lacks the motivation to want to be better. Galen would prefer a simple life where he can sleep with his choices at night, over Krennics extravagance and need to prove that he is the top dog.

And when he does finally get him back, Galen is not the same person. So krennic lashes out at him. Not because he hates him, or he is his enemy. But because he loved Galen and he left him. He was hurt by him more than anyone else. Krennic doesn't really understand people. He can manipulate them somewhat, but he doesn't /truly/ understand them. He just gets what people like and don't like.

And Galen just loved his daughter and his wife more than anything. seeing that reminds him that he didn't have that with galen, and that angers him. That he could try it with someone else before him. He thinks he has some kind of ownership of him, to some degree.

No, but those guys ARE super deadly. There's not going to be a massive power gap between them and your typical storm trooper.

Other sources off the top of my head:
-The characters in Lost Stars both seem pretty damn skilled
-Ezra obviously bests everyone at the academy on Lothal, but some of the other kids keep up with him
-I could be full of shit here, but I feel like the aftermath trilogy has some inner monologue about STs in this regard

Obviously, like any army, there's going to be some normal mediocre recruits. But their training is pretty strict and comprehensive.

I'm being un-ironic and genuine here.

I think that Krennic is one of the best Star Wars characters as of yet created. He has a psyche and motivations that are fun to pick apart, and incredibly relatable besides. He's a hilariously tragic character, outmatched by all the legacy characters around him, but he still does his best to stand on his tippy toes and scrap his way as high up the food chain as he can go.

By extension, Galen, Lyra and many of the other RO characters have helped me to actually enjoy Star Wars in a new way, and I'm really liking this direction.

Sure, we've had relatable characters in SW before, but all this cross media, including film, feels like it's gone deeper and helped us really get into these people's heads than has been possible before. I'm really enjoying the ride.

100% agree. Krennic is probably one of the most complex and good villains I've seen in a film in a while. You understand his motivations completely. His and Galens relationship is tragic, and it really makes you feel something.

Honestly, I can't believe something this good showed up in a major release, let alone a star wars film. He's a character study on a whole new level.

It was obvious they loved him and wanted to be sure that he would be more memorable than any of the others. Rather than getting completely invested in the crew of RO, I was more invested in him. In his plight. In his shortcomings, no matter how hard he tried to prove himself.

Krennic is probably one of the most Kino characters in a long time outside of independant films (which can take chances)

It's so easy to write him off as this tryhard wannabe, but once you dive into all the material and see what makes him tick, he becomes SO much more interesting.

One of my favorite things from just before RO came out was when I saw that one clip of Krennic coming to take Galen from Lamu, after I had read Catalyst. It felt like both characters had leapt off the page onto the screen, and it made me even more excited for the film than I already was.

>Tryhard wannabe

That's for people who didn't care enough to think about him, and look into it. It's fine, it serves its purpose well enough in RO. I saw it the first time without reading Catalyst, and I thought he was alright. I did like how well they did Tarkin, and how he basically bitchslapped him at every step. I definitely see the criticism that he's boring.

But then I read catalyst, and it changed how I saw all the characters. Things made SO much more sense. He wasn't a tryhard wannabe anymore, he had been trying to prove himself for his whole life. Tarkin had good reason to dislike him.

Life-altering seeing it that second time. Made that scene where Galen is talking about the weakness more powerful. And the flashbacks. Oh my god. The extra material is why it's my second favourite Star Wars film now.

It adds insights to the final moments of everyone who died:

>K2 imagines a scenario where Cassian and Jyn will get off Scarif alive despite it having a 0% chance of happening, just to die a robot's version of happy
>Chirrut's arm gets fucked up by the grenade, to the point where he can't feel it. Baze rushes over and touches it and Chirrut can momentarily feel his hand again.
>Baze dies in grief over Chirrut and in pain, just after seeing the smoke cloud of Bodhi's death in the distance
>Bodhi dies in the middle of reverie for finally getting his message to Raddus, that the shield needs to be blown open. He barely reacts to hearing the grenade being thrown into the cargo shuttle before he sees oblivion explode in front of him.

I struggle to even imagine what seeing the film was like for someone who hadn't read Catalyst. It did so much to inform on the characters and the backstory of everything that had happened up to that point, and the weight of it all.

I'm not really sure what's better: Seeing the film one way and being able to see it again with a completely different context, or seeing it the first time and feeling like it's such a richer experience.

Don't forget all the commentary about the Cave that is Jyn's mind. Something I thought was really cool was how A. Freed took the cave and turned it into a literary device representing her anxiety and guarded nature, and how the cave became brighter and less enclosed as the story went on.

And adding to the bit with Chirrut, I thought it was fucking hilarious when, after he was shot, he almost said to Baze "Something's wrong, Baze... I'm blind!", but thought better of it because of how well he knew Baze reacted to things like that. Really brought his playfulness even more to the surface.

I think that a simple and good way to explain the whole "I can't see a thing" when the 'heros' 'borrow' stormtrooper armor is by having the helmet be part of of an augmented reality hud that ties to the E-11, but none of the 'heros' know how to set that up so they have to use the backup system which they aren't used to using in any case.

Have you read the material? It's supposed to to better in Atmosphere and pretty much aced X Wings.

It's also a light bomber as well.

>>91128877
That's actually an Imperial Ship a super common one along side the corvette the rebellion jacked and bought a lot of the black market. Also remember this is a civil war so some rebel troopers were formally Imperial.

Hell, the X Wing itself was going to be an Imperial fighter bought the engineers defected.

>>91128903
Rogue showed how Tie Fighters Win they stay in huge massed block formations.

one cool thing about Rogue one is that both sides stayed in formations including the rebels

the prequels and the OG trilogy always showed fighters fucking off on their own. The death of the fat Asian pilot of red 5 shows what happens if you break formation and get singled out.
>>
>The Canon Chronicles of Darth Revan (April 1)
:^)
>>
>>91134833
>the prequels and the OG trilogy always showed fighters fucking off on their own.
I distinctly remember ships flying in formations in the ROTS battle though, and in TCW too

As for the OT, we only have Endor to base it on, which was a huge clusterfuck of a battle. Don't blame the Rebels for breaking formation at all
>>
>>91134992
The naboo fighters flew in formation as well
>>
>>91128940

...eh I always viewed speeders as low altitude ships at best, I think The Tie Striker can fly high altitude and work in space so really it's superior to the snow speeder in every way...Snow speeders were basically civilian utility trucks turned into technical.

It's also a "Striker" and can carry a small amount of Tie Bomber Bombs.

So the game meta tactics is that The Tie Striker dominates in atmosphere being basically a Tie Interceptor right out the gate and is able to do insane tight turns and wipe out space fighters that are not adapted to atmo It's second role is to be able to bomb ground targets if Tie bombers are not available or act as Bomber escorts or escort shuttles coming down from orbit.

Once again this is a brand new design retconned into the past before the battle of Yavin as a prototype experimental and a later a rare but in circulation tie fighter by hoth.

Really I see It as being almost superior to an interceptor as it seems to fill the same role and have light bomber capabilities and armor.

So really if the empire was stubborn about maintaining their swarm tactics and cheap craft and autistic about min maxing, I'd say the empire idealistically would have scrapped standard tie fighters with Interceptors being Star Destroyer and Space Station deployed space fighter and have tie bombers as well and only have Tie Defenders for elite of the elite Imperial agents and have Tie Bombers and Tie Strikers for atmosphere

(Even though we saw regular tie fighters In Cloud City and Jakku, really regular Tie fighters suck in atmospheric combat)

That may just be me, but anything above two is almost too much for acting as a fighter. Just lead and a wingman to watch his back is enough for that. Then have even numbers for squadrons so they can split into groups of two.

Bombers are a different story. The more the merrier.

But yeah RO was good with it IIRC.

Chirrut is about to save everyone in Jedha from the stormtroopers.
Not bad so far. I like the file beirfings inbetween some chapters, and the internal thoughts of the characters. Stuff the actors sadly could have been better if they knew this stuff from the book.

Cool, cool. Hope you continue to enjoy the novel. Something I think is cool is how closely it matches... There's one or two minor inconsistencies, but on the whole, I was amazed at how well it represented the film, especially given all the reshoots. Freed apparently works well under pressure.

Luke had the potential to be possibly as powerful or more powerful than Palpatine.

http://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/features/2005/02/star-wars-george-lucas-story

“Anakin, as Skywalker, as a human being, was going to be extremely powerful,” he says. “But he ended up losing his arms and a leg and became partly a robot. So a lot of his ability to use the Force, a lot of his powers, are curbed at this point, because, as a living form, there’s not that much of him left. So his ability to be twice as good as the Emperor disappeared, and now he’s maybe 20 percent less than the Emperor. So that isn’t what the Emperor had in mind. He wanted this really super guy, but that got derailed by Obi-Wan. So he finds that, with Luke, he can get a more primo version if he can turn Luke to the Dark Side. "
>>

I'd like for you to recall R5-D4, aka Skippy.

> But before it can hit the ground, the droid, named R5-D4, is able to reach out with his mind and turn the drink back in its upright

>One day, R5 removed his restraining bolt with the Force, and Force persuaded the Gamorrean guards to let him leave.

>Skippy immediately sensed the Force in Luke, and persuaded Owen to choose him.

>R5 knew what he had to do, and suddenly set off a mild explosion inside himself, leading Luke to believe that he had a busted motivator. Skippy then used the Force on 3PO, telling Luke to buy R2 instead

>Owen did so, leaving R5 to be destroyed by a stray stormtrooper blast during the later raid, with nobody ever knowing the great deed that R5 had just done.

Filoni is overrated. I think in TCW there is only like 13 episodes I can watch, 4 weren't even done by him and 8 were attempts to do season/series finales. Unless his nose is put to the grindstone and he has no choice, he just won't advance the plot.
>>
>>91142459
Skippy was always intended to be satire. HE WASN'T EVER CANON, NOR MEANT TO BE.

Are Tag and Bink canon? Is Lil' Maul canon? Why do people fixate on Skippy so much?
>>

>>
>>91142518
I do think that a lot of TCW is good, but I just don't understand how he and the people who work for him can't see how childlike their shows are sometimes.

Like the time during the Hondo episode where an ugnaught was shot dead center by a laser cannon, and he flew up in the air like a cartoon character. I know he was, but you know what I mean.

And the other weird stuff about the Rebels aesthetic... While I really hate the way the lightsabers look in it, I can at least see their argument. But other things, like how stubby the TIEs look, or the gigantic bridge towers on the ISDs? Just don't get it.
Every time you bring it up they go "But muh Mquarrie", and it gets really fucking tiring.

And I'm willing to accept that it needs time to find its feet, and that it just won't ever be on the same scale as Clone Wars. But there are so many little annoyances that pile together and make it annoying to watch.

I dislike Ezra in a way that I never disliked Ahsoka, and I wish they'd pick whether they wanted him to follow the Dark Side or be all "But we have to help everyone! It's the right thing to do!"

I really don't enjoy watching Rebels at all, though I always do, so I guess they've got me. But it's always bugging me in the back of my mind.

Like, okay, the Imperials and Pilots who have the ridiculous hats that cover their eyes. I don't know if it's to save on animation or just to re-use character models without breaking continuity, but I for one would find it much less distracting if they just used the same model over and over but had us able to see their eyes. It just looks stupid otherwise.
>>
So for bigger ships, why do they keep their bridges right next to the exterior? Why not put them closer to the center of the ship or something to have less risk of it being destroyed and losing your command crew?
>>
>>91142621
>Like the time during the Hondo episode where an ugnaught was shot dead center by a laser cannon, and he flew up in the air like a cartoon character. I know he was, but you know what I mean.
The blast hit the ground in front att his, which is why he went flying. You know, because of the shockwave. It sent him up into the air and then he arced off and over the edge into the abyss

>But other things, like how stubby the TIEs look, or the gigantic bridge towers on the ISDs? Just don't get it.

>They looked different for their final designs for a reason,
Because they decided not to use some of those concepts? Just because some of those designs went unused doesn't mean they should never be used and doesn't mean they can't be used.

>and it bugs me that they're changing established designs for nerd points.
They're not. They're changing the design because they chose to stylize their show after McQuarrie's paintings. It's an alteration to fit the style.

Obi-Wan doesn't canonically have a segmented beard made of semi-rectangular shapes that form a point just because TCW changed the design to look like that.

How can the bridge get any closer to the hull as is without being set INSIDE the hull, negating the ability for visual observation?

I want people to realize that there are NO man-made vehicles in the world that do not feature exposed viewports with the sole exception of submarines (which are dangerously finicky craft as it is), and the only reason for that is that sight is all but impossible underwater and the overwhelming pressure would cave in the ship with the current degree of technology. In a space setting, there is no such danger, especially in Star Wars which has shields and "transparisteel" besides, and which visual observation is a noted tactic in universe in addition to scanning equipment.

Now explain to me again why Star Wars designs should be more boring and "realistic"
