I think this is why Genndy has been focusing on action so much is because he doesn't have a lot of time to wrap things up

but there is still just something strange about this new series that doesn't make it fit in as well as it could with the original
for example the environments so far have been unusual
there seems to be a real lack of futuristic environments which were very common in the original and you'd think Aku's empire would have stretched a lot farther in all this time even without him doing anything
moreover there is a much greater sense of isolation going on now which I also find very unusual as the original series was very concerned with showing Jack interacting with the world

I imagine that, as things move back toward the final Jack v Aku showdown, we will see some of the more futuristic elements that were present in the original show. But even if we do not, this is kind of understandable in its own way: The show is no longer about Jack getting used to or feeling out of place in the future into which he was flung, but having lived fifty years (without aging) in that future. Of course he would be used it by now. He was using guns in the first two episodes, after all.

Kinda hard to compare Superman TAS to the original Fleischer Superman because the production values are so different, but it could be argued that Superman TAS is better than the Fleischer Superman.

It cannot. Even "South Park", Super King Big-Nuts of all TV-MA shows on television, has never dropped an uncensored F-Bomb on the show itself. Yes, the movie used the word copiously, and yes, Comedy Central has aired the movie uncensored, but the movie was aired late at night and always with a TV-MA rating. And if Genndy really wanted to stay true to the show's spirit while working within TV-14 boundaries, "damn" or "hell" is about the worst you will probably hear in terms of foul language, if you even hear them at all.

If anything, I would actually love to see the show eschew even "damn" and "hell". Writing dialogue where you cannot fall back on "shock value" often produces great results. (Not to say that vulgar language has no value; "Rick and Morty" proves that it works when used well and within the boundaries of both a show and a given character's personality.)

After rewatching the episode, it seems like the first third is too stylized: tons of blood in the river, Jack bleeds for probably an entire day, walks into the cave covered in blood, looks at the wolf with marbled blood all over his face, demonic past-Jack. It doesn't work because there are repeating shifts between stylized and not-stylized. One shot Jack is covered in blood, the other he just has some scrapes, then he's covered in blood again. Has to be deliberate, but it doesn't work. Probably should have been a gradual shift: super stylized shot in the river -> slightly less stylized in the forest -> slightly less stylized in cave -> slightly less stylized with past-Jack -> back to the show's regular levels of stylization for the last two-thirds of the episode.

This would have tied in real kino with Jack's healing process. Really fucked up: really fucked up stylization. Starting to feel better: slightly less stylized. Back to normal: back to normal stylization.

While it might just be an apparition it would be interesting to learn that while not necessarily malevolent the gods in Jack's world still abide to the way and law of things, for mortal matters anyway, and it turns out Aku isn't the only one concerned that Jack has lived unnaturally long.

Then again it would be one of those annoying things for me for something like a death god to take issue with the victim of a condition, Jack, rather than the perpetrator, Aku. Especially since Aku is implied to do this sort of thing at whim, like with the Lava Monster, who Jack freed by the way so if anything he should have some favor with the spirits. To add to that, I find since outside of whichever one bothered to drag Mulan out (and even then that doesn't really mean much) the sisters did not show any signs of mourning.
One of them even made time to shit talk her failure.

They also seemed to expect and want violence to befall a creature they had no inkling of.

This can all be swept under their psychological conditioning I'm sure, but at some point any psychological evaluation would face that a person's present inclination is more than just their background.

If Ashi suddenly becomes completely benevolent and not merely neutral it will feel very forced. Especially (if we're going to bring it up as an excuse for their behavior) since you can't break conditioning that scarring and that long so easily.

Take In Bruges, several characters know they're killers but when a serious mistake is made even the most hardened don't just shrug about it. One of the characters starts to reconsider their line of work while another contemplates suicide and no amount of being told they're not to blame, it's the job, that's life, mistakes happen or any of that sort of hollow talk makes them decide they can really wash their hands of the blood staining them and become saints.
The movie makes a point of addressing that morality is ironically something that will never be so clean.

I'm ok with Jack and Aku's side of things, particularly because their individual and interrelated character aspects are as simple as they are complex, but if Genndy's going to add a 3rd main character whose built up complexity and connections are oversimplified that's going to be a damn shame.

If Ashi fights Aku I'll just laugh my ass off.

First and foremost she has no feasible means to bring him any harm. So she's pretty useless.

Secondly she's been raised to revere him like god. Even if she rejects him as a benevolent god, the fear should not disappear. There's no reason for her to suddenly get brave towards something far beyond her mortal comprehension, especially if the activities of deer perplex the sisters.

Most of all though it would remind me of Katara showing up to Zuko and Azula's showdown. People always focus or talk about the supposed spirit bending for Aang vs Ozai but convenient Katara is what really left a bad taste in my mouth.

Azula tried to kill Aang, sure, but the gang up until that point had focused on the mission of stopping the fire nation and the Fire lord, not just any jerk they had a grudge with.
So outside of her needing to be a target for Azula so Zuko could complete his selfish villain to selfless hero arc and needing her ice shit to be useful to someone who can't already waterbend like Aang, there was no real reason for her to be there. Fortunately though it just so happened to let Zuko avoid having to complete the Agni Kai right of taking his extremely dangerous sister's life though, right?

If Ashi shows up to the final war to assist some extras against beetle droids, that's one thing. If she shows up to the final battle between Jack and the Devil himself that's another. She'll either end up being a victim Jack has to needlessly rescue, or die trying, or take up Jack's sword and have to somehow beat Aku despite being laughably less trained and experienced than Jack.

Her only option is to part ways with Jack like the Spartan King. Anything more would mean her jumping over the characters of him, the Scotsman and the Guardian which leaves something to be desired with all they were built up to be as lifelong protectors and allies.

It felt like the right time for me. They were starting to drag on, pretty much every scene with them has a mandatory 5 minute chase/set up scene that really doesn't push forward the story. We already know they're going to track Jack, we already know they're going to find Jack, if it's not revealing something more about their characters then it's kind of wasted time.

Man, this is exactly what I wanted Samurai Jack to be when I was a kid.

Sure, the old episodes were amazingly directed, but the lack of consecuences, continuity and the story moving foward was never there so I felt blueballed.

My 11 year old self is smiling.
