Steven Universe is the best show on CN but, Gumball is the best cartoon. Like, a lot of Gumball's humor is modern but, at the same time when I watch it it often takes me back to being a kid in the 80's and 90's.

I could absolutely see guys like Tex Avery, Chuck Jones, etc. doing guest directing duties on Gumball.

No. Disney had decided sometime between S1 and S2 (maybe early into S2 production) that they just weren't interested in funding any more Wander. It wasn't because the show's performance at that time disappointed them (it seems like they never really expected a smash hit out of it in the first place), they just didn't feel like fueling more than two seasons. I'm pretty sure they were taken by surprise when the show had a dramatic surge of popularity during season 2 - that "I'm the Bad Guy" musical number suddenly made droves of people who'd overlooked the show before suddenly sit up and pay attention, which could've been the springboard to making Wander their next big animated hit. But Disney, being the stubborn, asinine beast that it is, would rather shrug off a budding hit that they didn't anticipate/engineer from the get-go, because that would be an admission of error. Instead they'd rather move forward with "Shitty Live-Action Tween Comedy With Canned Laughter #3613", while sending more love-letters to Alex Hirsch.
