I really hope the new canon fills in the blanks for those 30 years with good stories but they really wrote themselves into a corner since nothing can happen on a big scale that won't contradict what's been established in TFA, and there's not much they can do with Luke/Han/Leia

why didn't they just rewrite the Thrawn trilogy to make more sense in the current canon. There's so much shit from the EU that they still would have been able to include had they not decided to end the war after a year

I think his point is that TFA unnecessarily crimps the stories you can tell in between ROTJ and it. It can't, as he says, be anything really good or interesting, because Han, Luke, and Leia have to get where they are by the time TFA starts, and where they are isn't terribly interesting.

If Dooku were to have a novel (author doesn't matter), how would you want to see it connected to the canon, outside of the obvious Prequel connection? The catch: it has to connect to the new canon contributions that are ongoing now; it can't be standalone (which means Unknown Regions related)

We have three books on the first year after ROTJ alone, and while those aren't the best, theres also the fan-favorite Bloodline.

Sure the OT characters in particular are restrained by TFA, but theres still stories that can be told with them, or newer characters, or original characters.

The Galaxy doesn't have to be at war for good stories to show up, Bloodlines is proof of that.

He's mentioned in Bloodline. They don't go into detail of what he's been up to but he apparently kept in touch with Han and Leia since he's one of the people sending Leia messages of support after her relation to Vader is publicly outed.

As for why he wasn't in TFA, apparently they did offer him a cameo but he couldn't do it because he wasn't feeling well at the time they were shooting. No idea how true that is, though.

The thing about Jurassic World is that it's the ultimate example of "effects driven spectacle movie makes lots of money in countries that don't speak English."

The visuals and the effects and the setpieces matter a lot more if you want to make money in, say, China or Brazil or Nigeria. And Jurassic World has the best CGI creations you could possibly have. I mean, fucking dinosaurs. Everybody loves dinosaurs. Every single person on the planet loves dinosaurs and thinks they're cool as shit. So a movie that prominently features dinosaurs walking, stampeding, fighting, hunting, etc. is going to make serious bank, no matter how good, or bad, a movie it is.

So, basically, JW's success was more guaranteed than any other modern blockbuster's, and I don't think we can take from it a good idea of how Trevarrow will handle Episode 9.

CIS army production was much higher than the Republic with newer and more efficient droids being produced every year. Let's be 100% clear. TFA was bad. As a spectacale and nostalgia bait it did it's job. You could enjoy eating your popcorn. The story was all over the place and things happened for 'reasons' but it was fine (past all the copy paste shit). Rogue One has loads of plot holes. The WORST maincharacter or even main cast member of the series; and then proceeds to use her to over shadow their two decent characters. The set pieces are pretty but don't make sense the moment you consider them and the story is inconsistent. Rogue One is a joke. If you liked it as a spectacle and that's all you want, fine. Getting answers stemming from an EU source is only going to get you so far. It can be interesting and useful to see how the EU handled things, especially if the book is actually good. But in terms of answering Anon's actual questions, they can only really be treated as "what ifs".

So, Filoni was considering using the Vong in TCW, right? He was also considering using Thrawn. Thrawn also apparently knows Anakin Skywalker
Since Thrawn in Legends wanted to brace the Unknown Regions (particularly the Ascendancy) against the Vong, what if those TCW episodes were to deal with Thrawn teaming up with Anakin in the Unknown Regions to fight Vong, and that's the events (since writers can delve into cancelled TCW stories for integration in Canon a la Dark Disciple, Ahsoka novel, and the Siege of Mandalore) are going to be mentioned in the new Thrawn novel?

No it doesn't. The republic immediatley fills with partisan hacks even though it wasn't before, then dies immediately into the film. The Jedi never actually do anything noteworthy before dying again. Han loses his ship and winds up back in debt to gangsters. The imperial remnant finds another pale wrinkled dude to lead them like a year later.
