So I launched my site yesterday and showed the first panels on the last thread. One of the comments I got was that the design on one of my characters looked weird.

This pic I think shows what I intend for her to look like a bit better. As a note, she's supposed to be freakishly proportioned as it's plot-centric. I don't intend for her to look unbearably ugly, so if that's still a problem, then that's something I'll just have to work on.

My first batch of queues are probably going to remain a bit janky in the art-side of things, but hopefully the story is enough to make up for that for the time being.

The guy in the forefront is the protagonist, a gnome space explorer who crash lands on a fantasy planet on the eve of the industrial revolution. Shot down by an unknown assailant, he must repair his ship and escape the backwater hell hole that covets his laser pistol and advanced gadgets. Will he finally leave the world of strife and misery, or will he find his place within it and stay?

The robot in the middle is actually the severed yet conscious head of an ancient gnome scientist, and has only recently activated himself in response to meeting a gnome for the first time since he got depressed and turned himself off. The protagonist is not as versed in ancient philosophy and archaic coding as the robot is, unfortunately.

The guy in the hood is a dwarf gunslinger monk who finds the protagonist's knack for getting into danger rather convenient, being that he finds serenity and enlightenment through death and violence. He wears a gas mask because dwarves, on this planet, are vulnerable to surface diseases, due to generations of living inside air-tight vaults beneath the earth.

I don't have names for characters, or a name for the comic, but it's designed to act as a "proof of concept" for an RPG I want to make. If I can commit to this story and it proves popular enough I might then move on to expanding its world through independent game development. Granted, it's a little ambitious on my part, but I know where I'm starting and what sort of stories I want to tell.

Hey guys can you help me choose a font?
I think this one is ok for narrator stuff or whatever but I'm not sure about character's font. It's not gonna be a super serious comic but I don't think most usual fonts for comics fit the genre I'm striving for.

Any suggestions?
>>
>>90565661
much better quality art now. still very, very ugly. I feel like maybe you're focusing too hard on anatomy and musculature and missing the forest for the trees. There's a very odd juxtaposition between realistic body parts in these incredibly stunted proportions.. so if there's a plot reason for odd proportioning, I guess that's the result you were going for. but in the meantime it's like.. wow those are heavily detailed and highly masculine human feet but with claws on them... not paws or something. and that is a big round flat nose, but no split lip kitty mouth.. and there is a huge bulge between her brows like this chick I know, and all this extra detailing around her eyelids. I dunno mate. Can you show us the other sister again for comparison? like, if that one isn't meant to be weirdly proportioned, then we can hit on the problems more easily
>>
>>90565789
very cool retro art. I love the idea of preindustrial aliens.
so the robot's meant to have a severed head inside? because it doesn't look big enough to hold hugh jackman's head there if they're the same race.
and okay, dwarves are smaller than gnomes in your biz? that works well enough, but it still seems odd his head is so much more proportional.

Try to leave more room betweeen your letters and the box

Not to toot my own horn, but look at my attached example. I leave "breathing room" on the sides of the text so it doesn't look like I ran out of space. That makes it look a bit more "professional", and it doesn't take much time.

What kind of story do you want to tell? Laybe that way we can help font wise...

tomorrow, i make the GGZ reddit subpage or whatever you call it. subreddit? something like that
>>
>>90566165
Actually I feel like you left much too much space in your boxes, but I assumed there used to be Hangul in there. translations often leave odd spaces by necessity
the guy you replied to has plenty of (if not too much) vertical space, but not enough horizontal.
>>
>>90566165
It does look more professional, thanks for the tip.

The story I want to tell is kinda like John Constantine+Yu Yu Hakusho but less action and more slice of life. Paranormal investigations tangled with character interactions with some focus on humor.
There's still going to be "bad guys" to defeat though
>>
>>90566200

I've been keeping up with this page on the website that show all the characters and their bios, and now that these three have had a decent amount of dialogue, I shoved their bios in. The no face guy has a bio on here now too if you want to have more info about the guy.

The most common mistakes:

>Too many panels
Brevity is the key, draw rough sketch of comic and see which panels you can merge into one. Tod McFarlane gave the best advice that when you have scene like driving a car, jumping out of car and then car goes crash normally people draw 3 panels but he draws it into one big panel
>Too many words
This is the prime example of bad comics. It's bad because nobody wants to read too many text, it's boring and people skip it, also it's not natural because people normally don't talk too much like huge speech balloons, people are different some people are talkative some not, it's ok when some character is talkative but still just have to give maximum information in minimum words
Don't make walls of text!
>Poor panel design
Experiment with point of view, make close ups, show landscapes, different angles etc, do not make same looking 3/4 view shit
>Shitty characters
Do not copy characters from shows/comics, copy characters from real life, observe people, their behaviour etc Take people you've met in your life, you have a hothead uncle? put him into your comic. Take Miyazaki's advice to your hearth

Those are protips
>>
>>90566485
I know, but I have no clue how to remove them without redoing the entire basis of how the website is coded. I'll try fixing it sooner or later though
>>
>>90566514
>Do not copy characters from shows/comics
>Take Miyazaki's advice to your hearth
Oh yeah he's never done that
>>
On the subject of beginnings, what's the appropriate length for the start of the story?

For example, my beginning is a semi in medias res thing where the heroes are fighting the villain for the first time. It's in the middle of the fight, so there's a lot of shit the audience had no context for yet, only vague hints.

That should be like two-three pages max, yeah?
>>
>>90566560
yeah the longer you draw it out the more it'll suck when you have to wrench them away from that

>>90566132
Sure, here's the other one.
I can see what you mean about the feet. The hands and feet are supposed to be larger than normal, but I may have overdone the feet design.
As far as the face goes, they're not supposed to be full furries, just "diet-furries", like the Mithra from FF. I can see if I can redesign the faces to look more . . . neotenized, maybe.
>>
>>90566554
Anime was mistake

"You see, whether you can draw like this or not, being able to think up this kind of design, it depends on whether or not you can say to yourself, ‘Oh, yeah, girls like this exist in real life. If you don’t spend time watching real people, you can’t do this, because you’ve never seen it. Some people spend their lives interested only in themselves. Almost all Japanese animation is produced with hardly any basis taken from observing real people, you know. It’s produced by humans who can’t stand looking at other humans. And that’s why the industry is full of otaku!."
>>
>>90566814
>>90565661
Honestly, I kind of enjoy how these guys look a little wonky, it's charming. They remind me of trolls or something. The sister with the headphones is much cuter imho, I think it's her eyes and expression that do it.
>>
>>90566814
yep just as I thought, there's just overdetailing on things like digits and eyelids for a style this simple, and it does no favors.
>neotenized
that's exactly where it ought to go, I think. There's a reason most furries are cute carnivorous mammals and not cows and reindeer.
but after reading >>90566954 I must add that it's up to you, and if you'd rather make things more unique, that's totally a way to go.
>>
>>90566164
It's a sketch, and they're not drawn to scale. Supposedly the robot and the dwarf are in the background.
>>
>>90566827
basically just explaining why it's a good thing. real life is unworthy of inspiring fiction, which should strive to be above it. fiction should draw from imagination, idealism, paranoia, speculation.. anything but your real experiences (unless you're one of the few who has had an interesting life. like tezuka working his medical knowledge into things)
you know why? because those humans who can't stand looking at other humans are always going to be the target audience. If they were okay with real life, they'd be IN it, instead of looking at your fiction
>>
>>90566164
Also, what exactly is "retro" about the way I draw?
>>
>>90566954
Glad to hear, that's where I'm aiming.

>>90567073
Aisling (the older one) was actually roughly modeled after Eep from The Croods. I love how Eep is basically a hulking neanderthal gorilla-girl, complete with a thick, broad face, yet ultimately falls on the endearing side. That's what I want for Aisling.

In the end, I'm not going to "normalize" her appearance, as her mini-hulk beast-girl appearance is who she is.
But, If the only issues are to chill out on the feet and tweak the eyes and nose a bit, then I'm totally down with that.
>>
>>90567088
Oh, not to scale, okay. Wouldn't have thought this was a 'sketch' as it's pretty dang nice. does that mean the final comic will be 'tighter' ?
>>90567261
well in particular that shading style especially on the robot guys but also the edge hatching. very 80s ninja turtles. I really dig it.
>>
>>90567291
>Croods
that explains a lot. If you like that art, don't listen to me, I'll lead you as far away from it as I can.
>>
>>90566514
Crit please?

http://imgur.com/a/SpTpx

http://imgur.com/a/LBnXs

Especially when it comes to panels/composition/framing. I can't change these chapters any more, but anything you say will be taken to heart to fix future chapters. I've also got 3 nearly done, but I won't be posting that till after its launched (might pop back in next week). I need someone with a good eye for that sort of stuff to point out my mistakes when it comes to the "comic side" of making comic books.
>>
So what are your 'show, don't tell' tricks?

>characters use bladed weapons that vibrate really fast to increase cutting power
>show this by copying image of blade on either side of it to convey shaking

Also, you ever get the depressing feeling that show, don't tell doesn't work? There's always like dozen people asking inane questions about the bleeding obvious.
>>
>>90567541
Nah, I appreciate the input, even if it's personal taste. Ideally I'd love for this to be the most popular webcomic online, and even though I want a unique character design, I still want it to be approachable enough for readers to at least tolerate it and enjoy what they do like.
I sure as shit don't plan on being the subject of one of those "Shitty webcomic" threads, so I'm willing to listen to feedback and compromise where I feel comfortable doing so.

>>

I feel like someone with art as good as yours could have picked better subject matter
>>
>>90567894
I picked the subject matter intentionally because it's popular, and it'll get me noticed.

It's a great first project.

Hook people with something hot, and then reel them in with the big one. Which we're already planning.
>>
>>90567743
honestly i love being told. I'd rather get more information total than to maintain some show-to-tell ratio
>>90567843
It probably doesn't help that we've all seen really cringey weirdly-drawn furry stuff, and most of the time it's not intentional. So far both of these drawings you've done for us look a lot better and more deliberate than your comic looked.

I woulds say avoid stuff like these first two panels:

http://i.imgur.com/yZjc7sp.png

Make them from notoriously different shapes, right now it looks like you split an image and it takes a bit of time to notice it's two different camera shots. You have little things like that but overall it looks fine (and you'll improve if you keep going!)

>>90567743
Like pic related? I think it's a common problem, I always try and see if it's easy to understand with stick figures, otherwise I'll ran into the problem of spending a lot of time in a drawing that isn't very readable... but it still happens.
>>
>>90567517
I'm trying to emulate satirical Mad Magazine and Franco-Belgian comics the most. The actual pages won't be as detailed, since I'm not that crazy. I might use a quill pen instead of brush for convenience.

Well, I wouldn't say at any cost. I like Trump for one, I wouldn't grind out 12 hours a say of this stuff if I didn't like the subject matter to some degree.

Plus, it's hard to say no, when you've got potential hundreds of thousands of dollars, maybe even millions, staring at you in the face. My first shitty one, The Debattle, got over a million views, went viral, sold 300 copies at $16 a pop, and even got a publisher to reach out to me.

Now, with a more professionally done one, we're waiting to get to chapter 6 before going all out. We're building a site atm, and once we're ready, and the book is in stores, we're gonna viral it like mad.

Tons of people out there support Trump, popular people too, people like Jon Tron, Razorfist, and even PewDiePie. All it takes is for PDP to give it a mention, and that's it son. Dude gets 5+miilion views per video. And if I give him a free volume, he's bound to talk about it. We've got a list of like 20 people to send free copies to this April.

So that's why. And once I'm big, I'm going all out, expanding, and pushing my next project, which will be even bigger.

>>90568088

For that matter, would anyone here be interested in watching me stream my comic making process?

you ever get the feeling that you draw fairly well, but you still don't feel comfortable about drawing your own comic, cause maybe you're idea is pretty much shit or could turn out cringe, so you just end up not making comics but instead end up doing request from anons that all they want is futa versions of their favorite anime characters?

they're both valid.
either only put things you can draw into your comic, or use it as an excuse to challenge yourself, knowing you'll fail at some of it but more importantly you'll succeed at some of it.
after all, there's no shame in having a comic with some flaws, but there's a non-zero amount of pride in having a comic that does some things well.

Hard work, perseverance, and marketing. Gathering an audience it a lot easier if your story starts off with a strong hook, so if you haven't started your comic yet make sure your beginning is attention grabbing.

Once you got your comic running for a while, start sharing it everywhere. Put your comic on Top Webcomics and thewebcomiclist.com. Get a Twitter, Tumblr, Deviantart and whatever social media/art sites you enjoy and start sharing your art/comic. Reach out to other comic artists, make conversation with them, network and make friends. Mirror your webcomic on Tapastic/Webtoons/Smackjeeves if you don't already have it posted there, but be sure to link back to your main site if you have one. Just promote the hell out of your comic and hope people take notice.

I created Urchin after playing Grabbed by the Ghoulies.

One of my favorite games. This was like 10 years ago, and the character is way different now than she was back then. But I remember thinking "Man, these guys made this fun game with such a simple story, I bet I could make something like that!"

Of course now the character is NOTHING like she was back then, but still.

I know I posted it last thread, but I've finally got my webcomic up and running!

I've posted a lot of pages in these threads already, but eh!

I hope this comes off as clever as it sounded in my head. drawing all this mecha shit wore me out, otherwise there would have been more detailed wreckage of those walking tanks, more of them colliding with each other, firing off more shots, showing off other weapons.. but that's okay, that's not what this comic is about.

Oh shit, that's cool to know, thank you anon. The reason I asked about the account making is because I feel that would be too much effort on the readers part to take the extra time to make an account, which is reasonable, because what if the comic is shit? that would seem like a bigger waste of time.

Polling /hyw/ as I design this comic blog

Realistically, does anyone here actually click the 'previous' / '<' button in comic navigation when reading? How disappointed would you not be if a comic was missing this?

itd just be:
>first
>next
>latest

If you want to go back, just press back on your browser or backspace?
>>
>>90584541
I use the previous button whenever I'm checking up on the latest page of a comic for an update, and want to reread the previous pages, or if I haven't read a comic in a while and want to find where I last left off.
If a comic didn't have a previous button, it would probably be a little annoying to me. Why do you want to get rid of the previous button at all?
>>
>>90584585
I'm using a custom URL subdomain for my tumblr blog so it's comic.anonswebsite.org.

On its homepage (most current comic), 'prev' goes to "http://anonswebsite.org/page/2/" which breaks the site, because tumblr back-end kills the subdomain in the link

So before I go to a ton of work getting this to function right, wondering if it's used enough to keep

I'm trying to figure out a way to color faster:

So in this example I basically have my lineart on Linear Burn, so it "blends" better with the colors. I have a layer of base colors, a layer on Color Burn for the shading, and a layer in Add (Glow) for the highlights.

Everything sort of works, but F me, I cannot figure out how to lay the flat colors quickly enough. It's always the most boring and time consuming part. I'm on CSP, using vector and reference layers, and I still cannot fill things quickly with the paint bucket-- it always misses little bits that I have to go over with a brush. Any tips or tutorials? Maybe I'm missing something insanely obvious.

I have a question:

I don't really read webcomics at all, but for the most part, what are they about? What kind of vibes do the popular ones have? Are they all mainly comedic or what?

I'm asking because I plan on making one as a means of getting out there as an artist but I want to save my genuinely good ideas for when I make an actual published comic at some point in the future.
>>
>>90586096
Like any other medium there is a wide spread of genres.
Like any mostly fiction medium there is a large amount of fantasy(low and high)/ sci-fi, etc.
And obviously because of the internet there is a large proportion of weird fetish shit (on sliding subtlety scales) that is way more popular than it has any right to be.
This is like asking what books are like. There is way too many for a generalization to cover, go read some

everything's great except the clouds, they're way too solid and look like lumps of whipped cream. at the very least clouds shouldn't have outlines, and if they're covering the moon they should either look illuminated or dark, depending on their opacity.
also if you're going to put that much detail into a tree, some of it should probably be the bark-grain lines
but in general this is awesome
>>
>>90585117
I've always been told that shading in burn is a bad idea. Can't remember why. This looks good.
paint bucket doesn't work with anti-aliased lines unless you turn down its tolerance, then it's going to be eating into said lines, so maybe leave a copy of those lines above the lineart but still leave one below for putting flats into?
if you're doing the "paint around the outline then fillbucket the middle" technique you have to remember to use an aliased brush for at least that part

Drop your lineart on a bright green BG and use Select > Color Range. You can control the fuzziness so it will pick up the line aliasing better than just normal paint bucket. Then you can modify the selection as needed, save it to a channel, fill, etc.

Webtoons is pretty good for longform comics. A lot of their more popular comics are either romances, adventure stories, or dramas. Most readers there enjoy story driven comics with long updates. It has a similar design/interface to Tapastic, though, but the userbases are very different.

Was I too vague?

I just wanna know if it's a good idea to host on multiple sites or not.
>>
>>90596130
Sure, especially if you don't have your own site yet. Different people use different sites to read comics, so by cross posting your comics you expand your reader base.
Even if you do already have your own site, posting your comic to multiple different hosts can basically work as advertising. You could use your other hosts as mirrors, and keep them one update behind your website, and leave a note saying "to read the latest update go to mycomicswebsite.com!"

Somebody help, I have no fucking clue how to design character clothes, particularly fantasy. It feels like every little background character now poses a challenge because I have to come up with something for them to wear

Flowery and mystical

>>90584246
Yeah that's what I felt too

On another note, I'm trying to figure something out. Let's say I want to have an interaction between two people who don't speak the same language. So the character I'm currently following is speaking in their native tongue but it's in Roman script and in English to the reader. Someone comes up to them and asks a question in a language I made up. Do I write the words in my fantasy text or in Roman script? And leave the fantasy text for physical writing? See example sketch.

Also, let's say there is a common language. One of them only knows a few words so I'm "masking" the unknown words with a butchered futhark script. How do I differentiate this English text (Bubble 3) from the language that the native is speaking? (Bubble 2)

Sorry if I worded this confusingly

How did you guys learn to draw?

I've tried everything. I've taken actual classes at my local CC, I've tried Loomis, I've tried generic commercial "How to draw" books and the like and after years I can't draw a straight line with a ruler and it takes hours to draw just the head with off center eyes that most people got over in high-school and now all drawing does is make me mad that I can't put out a fucking good line.
>>
>>90598327
Well, I guess the question is how much do you enjoy drawing, anon? I know a lot of people, myself included, were just kids who liked to doodle dragons and pokemon in grade school and just kept on practicing from there. The hardest part of improving your artwork is just getting into the rhythm of constantly drawing to improve, which is a lot easier if drawing is just fun to you.

What level are you at right now, anon? I could give better advice if I could see your art. For general recommendations, I would say to try doing some 1-minute gesture drawings with quick pose to get yourself used to drawing the whole human figure.

I've also heard Draw a Box's early exercises are helpful if you're having a hard time with basic construction.

>>
>>90597274
I like the way you've done it here. I wouldn't use the overused 'common' though, I'd say pidgin
as for your main question, the most traditional thing to do is to write the 'loanwords' in all caps. for example in anime lyrics you might see a bunch of katakana and then YOUR LOVE in caps
>>
>>90598327
start drawing Kirby
make him do a bunch of things
learn how despite him just being a circle with beans attached, there are ways he looks right and ways he looks wrong.. this will get you thinking on the right track

Here's some sketches with a quill pen, with a little more consideration for proportion and movement. I still don't have names for my characters. I'm thinking modern, easy to remember aglocentric names are convenient. "Fantasy" style names often annoy me.
>>
>>90599342
mmm looked a little tighter before but I still love your style. so very book-illustrationy
i get so bored of 'normal' names. they aren't easy to remember at all because you know fifteen bobs.
on the other hand if they follow modern name CONVENTION then by all means. I suggest you look at the differences between ancient names and their modern equivalents (yochanan to john, etc) and then do that with whatever fantasy names you WOULD use if they didn't annoy you. Like nobody would be called Legolas now, but Lals is a perfectly cromulent name
>>
>>90599116
That sounds fucking stupid.
So it's probably one of the best pieces of advice I'm ever going to get. I mean that in a good way.

I vary between tight and loose depending on mood. My impatient nature pushes me to be loose to achieve a living, breathing quality to the characters in each panel. I like things to have texture, and scratchy pen work satisfies that need when done right.

My guy needs a spaceship. My original instinct was to make it a plain flying saucer Spaceman Spiff rip-off. It will only really be relevant for a couple of pages, but I want it to stand out, but not be too complicated in design.

once again i gotta go with this advice: look at the different ways UFOs get drawn, that weird way anime always draws them with the 3 knobblies on the bottom.. compare them, keep the parts they have in common.. contrast them, take the parts where they differ and invent something original for those. like what if the saucer had a flat rim edge like a hockey puck and it was studded with outward-facing lights
>>
>>90599071
Hmm I wanted common since it was super generic. I already have plenty of foreign names and I need some common ground that's going to be basically English. It's either English or common unless there's a better alternative...

For your anime lyrics example wouldn't that be for "English" words that don't exist in the foreign language?

I want to convey that when #2 says "... What?" she's saying it in a language that #1 doesn't understand

working on a new page.

ya know, this romance between Nina and Rose was born out of just a few comments from random people online mentioning something between them or asking if they was going to end up with each other...

this has happen in my other webcomics before this one but not always romance

so i have no idea what the hell this web comic is going to turn into if it catches on and becomes a big hit online

i only have 2 chapters planned out but just a few comments from readers or people that like one or two pages will push this comic in a weird direction its almost like a group project with everyone online that decides to comment or a social experiment

i mean as long as the pages get done and people dont hate it and i have the main plot i wanted to do done then its fine but its also really really weird at the same time if you think about it to much...

things that really make you go hmmmmmm.... ..

i wonder what this comic would be like with no comments or reactions to it on 4chan or what it would be like on the same level of homestuck or las lindas or avas demon

really makes me stop and ponder
>>
>>90602103

by on the same level i mean in popularity, not quality, obviously
>>
>>90602188

and by quality i mean art syle! sorry about that, dont want to confuse anyone
>>
>>90601690
yeah, for when they speak gratuitous english.. or sometimes french.

Oh, so it's a third language entirely? in that case uhh that's tricky. I'd write out distinctly non-english words in roman script. so like, the gibberish font, then like "atcho gu?" and then the other one speaking english

yeah there's nothing wrong with 'common' or 'basic' if you don't mind it being generic, it does get the meaning across right away, but if it's literally meant to be a lingua franca that multiple cultures use, that is properly a pidgin or a creole or something.

Webcomics are about wyrms. A wyrm is the gestalt entity of a human and a dragon, who are born in pairs (not to the same parents, just...kind of like a soulmate). When a human fuses with its dragon they become a wyrm. Wyrms have large bellies and deep pouches. Sometimes instead of a human, webcomics can be about a kangaroo who drank a bloat potion so now when he gets stressed he inflates. The dragon is still there.

it's pretty nice. I'd give the guy a neck. ANyone with limbs longer than his head needs a neck, in my opinion.
as for searching for legendary art supplies, I fucking dig it. reminds me of this book i read once... was it the remarkable journey of prince jen? if it wasn't that, it was something else like that. magical ink sticks is the point

it's pretty kooky in a fun way, and as long as you did the posing in SFM then I suppose it's not cheating or anything

regarding the neck, he does normally have one, it's just these angles are sort of blocking them with the collar and being seen from above. Although truth be told, I don't know if that's how it ought to be, or if the neck is still supposed to shown in some way
>>
>>90607090
in the second one, yeah, it's from above, so you have an excuse. but in the one on the left he should really have a small amount of neck showing.. though it's hard to say since with a spherical head you can't really say where his 'jaw' is

I haven't payed close close attention to it as of lately, as I haven't really payed close attention to anything since I'm always busy drawing trying to blast this thing and get to my goal.

But from what I've heard, I understand a few things.

1. Trump is being incredibly effective at fulfilling his campaign promises

2. The media is riding his ass like a motherfucker, and being incredibly dishonest, and are in full damage control mode, trying to either get him to step down or take away his mandate, which, only makes keeping up with things more difficult for me, as I can't trust mainstream sources.

For example, the whole deal with the "muslim ban" was totally blown out of proportion. And this is especially bad, as it's really hard to keep track of the mistakes Trump ACTUALLY makes.

3. Trump is still doing rallies, and communicating with people directly through them, and through Twitter, which is cool as on president has ever done that this early into their presidency.

Overall, I see a lot of potential in Trump, it's hard to really say anything accurately as the mainstream media is losing their shit atm, hell they've even gone after PewDiePie of all people, and I haven't been properly keeping up with things all that much as I'm too busy.

Personally, I liked him as president cause he was the anti-establishment candidate, and politics in general have been in dire need of a proper cleansing for the longest time. The left and the media especially have gotten way too corrupt. And I say this as a political moderate, with left-leaning ideals. I'm an atheist, I support abortion, etc...

As a person, I see Trump in the same way I see Arnold. He's a self-made man, an alpha male. And despite the character and personality flaws that he has (as we all do), I still respect a person who will boldly stand by their beliefs despite whatever adversity they might face from others, and makes something of themselves.
