About Laura and her mother after rereading her origin.
I think Sarah did had motherly love and feeling tword Laura from early on, but that didn't stop her form still keep letting other people to used and abused her . I think that's what the 'retcon this' people are missing about Laura's character... every time she smiles sincerely or helps someone else you have to consider how strong she has to be to live with what happened to her. It's a big part of the character's draw despite some writers making her more generic lately.

This. I was one of those who initially hated it, but I like what future writers have done and how they've handled that part of her character. By actually acknowledging it as a tragic part of what she went through, it actually ends up dealing with the issue instead of just ignoring it until it goes away.

Maybe i'am reading it to much, but after reading nyx and her sole .
It seems despite how much a nasty person Zebra daddy is, he seems somehow in a twisted way, still left a spot in Laura's heart even though she hates him and the things he do.
When she comes across other pimps,

Basically if you look at Zebra Daddy's behavior toward Laura, he could be very affectionate with her. He praises her, gives her attention, and tells her he wants to make her happy. To a girl like Laura, who was emotionally stunted and basically autistic, this must have been confusing as hell, and she would have been easily open to common child grooming techniques like 'look I've done all these nice things for you, but you owe me and you need to pay me back, and you can do that by letting me kiss you and fondle you a little.' Gradually that ramps up to full sexual activity with the pimp, and then onto prostitution with others. Have a look at some IRL cases like the Bullfinch grooming case in Oxfordshire or the stuff in Rotherdam to see how this kind of thing works.

There's also the fact that Laura's relationship with her own mother already functioned similarly prostitution. Her mother allowed others to hurt her and basically hired out her body as an assassin. Laura, of course, would not have understood that this kind of relationship was not normal, and so also wouldn't be equipped to understand that what Zebra Daddy was doing to her was wrong. She probably believed that abuse in a relationship was to be expected and might have felt a degree of genuine affection for him. She may even have had some happy memories associated with Zebra Daddy like if he bought her gifts or sweets early on in their acquaintance, which is also a common technique in child grooming.

Zander Rice, on the other hand, never showed Laura any affection and she associated him only with fear and pain and suffering. And also ruining her perfect operational record that one time.
