Luke, did I ever tell you about the time I was one of the most respected actors in the world, performing in renowned films such as Kind Hearts and Coronets, The Bridge on the River Kwai and A Passage to India? I even got an Oscar and a Knighthood in recognition for my talent and excellence. Then, while I was between shooting masterpieces with David Lean, a nerd named George Lucas begged me to play a samurai wizard from space in his sci-fi/fantasy flick. I took it to be nice, even though it meant saying lines such as "Only a master of evil Darth". Somehow, despite Lucas's bungling, it was a huge success and he roped me into appearing in the two equally idiotic sequels. I didn’t want to, but my code of honor as British gentleman and an actor prevented me from leaving a project unfinished. Now that's those movies are the only thing people remember me for. When you search my name on Google Images, the first result is from a website called “Wookiepedia”. My legacy is ruined forever. George Lucas was a bad friend.

Guys, I'm crying right now.

Just looking at his picture makes me feel something strange inside. I guess you could call it "love". I'm in love with Krennic. I've lost interest in all guys, besides him. Guys who are considered "hot" by the general female population don't cut it for me anymore.

Krennic really is all I think about all day, every day. I really do cry myself to sleep at night thinking about how I'll never be with him. Yularen decided to move from the Navy to the ISB(which is basically CIA+FBI). The ISB doesn't have the rank of Fleet Admiral so he now holds the rank of Colonel. And during the course of the Tarkin novel he also becomes Deputy Director of the ISB(second-in-command).

He's doing just fine. Plus, as mentioned in the Recon, he's a stickler for the rules so going in the ISB was a better job for him personally.

I want to try something.


I was born in the early 90s and saw the original films on video, becoming a fan. I saw the prequels as they came out as a kid and initially liked them a lot, and read a lot of EU material like books and comics along with them. However as I got older I realized they had flaws and found the books to be less than satisfactory in content and very dissonant at times, leading to me no longer reading EU stuff.

Eventually I found myself mostly distanced from Star Wars post ROTS and initially treated the Clone Wars CGI cartoon with disinterest, but heard via word of mouth that it improved over time, so I got back into Star Wars with it. When the Disney takeover happened, I was cautious, but followed Rebels because I had grown a decent amount of appreciation for Filoni and co. to see how it went, and I knew that TCW had started rough too.

I watched The Force Awakens and thought that it was a well-made film that played it too safe, but it wasn't horrible or anything, and as such I'm still happy to follow Star Wars as a franchise despite issues or complaints I have with it.

Does this sound normal? Like, are most of you guys like me? Or do you have completely different fandom patterns? I don't really mean like your specific opinions on installments but how you interact with the franchise over time.

I'm sort of like this, only I got super suckered in to the Old Republic period. I grew to adore the Tales of the Jedi comics and the KOTOR games. I still count KOTOR 2 as one of the greatest stories ever told in the Star Wars universe.

My true love is the depths of the Old Republic, in the high drama of clashes between the Jedi, the Sith, the Republic, and the Mandalorians.

This is why I'm honestly pretty triggered at the idea of the Sith never coming back. To me, the Sith are elemental to Star Wars. You can't get rid of them, it's like getting rid of lightsabers or handsome smugglers.

I never said the OT was perfect, though. I merely left out my opinion on them because the movies had been out for so long and I watched them at such a young age I was likely to be biased, whereas with the PT I was old enough to notice things on my own or be influenced by the criticism of other people. The OT never really gets criticism outside of nerd circles, so it didn't influence me.

Then when TCW came out it helped me look at the whole PT in a new perspective. As did Ring Theory. I recently rewatched TPM and loved it. TCW is still pretty underrated. There is so much that can be done with the prequel era, its a shame Disney cancelled it. I think I enjoy the prequel era better that the Enpire era. I think Rebels is okay to good and I really liked Rogue One but TFA was utter shit trash garbage and I don't consider it real Star Wars. In fact I don't think Lucas wanted to sell Lucasfilm. I think Disney or TPTB somehow threatened him and forced him to sell it.

One would write a song with super-mass appeal, and one would write a song based on things they were feeling or dealing with at the time that might not be universally applicable.

George is not making a lowest common denominator film, with a regular romance.
Notice how the scenes are set.
They are alone on an island, having picnics under waterfalls, having dinners together, sitting by a fireplace and bearing their souls.

It's not supposed to be a realistic romance. It's a sensationalized, romanticized story.

The PT are not populist films.

And that dialogue I posted is very unusual in fiction in that it doesn't beat around the bush- you're right, it's almost the opposite of romantic But that's why it works for me, it's intensity.

Most of the action in 2 & 3 is dialled up to eleven, it's very over the top. I don't see that as a bad thing, but it's not the hallmark of an artistic film, it's popcorn stuff.

The rebel fleet is a pretty healthy one, but not enough to take on ~6 star destroyers. It's gonna be good if it comes to that.

I'm actually thinking Thrawn is going to use Kallus to rally the fleet on Atollon to prepare for the assault on Lothal, and when all of Mon Mothma's ships land, that's when Thrawn strikes.

The book makes basically no attempt to do much of anything with him as a character. His only traits are being a great pilot and being somewhat witty, so he doesn't stand out at all. There was a massive power vacuum and various admirals, governors and generals all tried to seize power for themselves. A vast empire isn't any good when it's fractured and large sections of it see each other as rivals for power.

In a lot of ways, it's like what happened to the Sith: the in-fighting, combined with having an enemy force that's much more well organized and united (the Jedi and later the rebels/New Republic) leads to their downfall.

I don't buy this. The Rebellion was full of alliances of convince that would fall apart as soon as those vying for power stopped having the backing of the Empire. They also didn't have a ton of hardware. How many capitals did they field at Endor?

The rebellion couldn't take control of the galaxy from those warlords feasibly, especially since there would just be councils of them, and power rankings based on what that sector controlled. I don't see Fondor and Kuat turning, especially with how stuck up Kuati are. I can see the shipyards at Sullust turning. Shipyards at Mon Squidman. The Maw doesn't exist I'm assuming. You've still got whatever Golans over Coruscant, which will be kept in peace just like when the Jedi order fell, through force. I can't buy the Empire falling in a year.

A swivel gun, a shield generator, and a hyperdrive on the fucking TIE fighter misses the entire symbolism of the TIE fighter. Did JJ Abrams never take a second to think about maybe why the TIEs were made like that, and there were other varients?

Do I think Robert Jordan is short and concise? No. Do I enjoy his books even if I can feel my scalp being torn off by the constant tugging? Yes.

I mean, sure you had shit like the Vong, LOTF, Abeloth but all that was ignorable and was mostly not included in the video games.

There were loads of games cancelled because of the upcoming reboot. Jedi Knight 4 and 5, an actually good Battlefront, that one Darth Maul game. I lost that full list of cancelled titles.

Now Star Wars is this big pop culture thing and rather than sticking to a niche audience and being good with it, they now pander to every walk of life so they feel represented. And you just can't walk out of your house without people going STAR WARS STAR WARS STAR WARS. This is what happens when you flood a niche hobbie with normies, you have it lose all meaning.

In real life I avoid mentioning I'm a Star Wars fan and I say that I haven't watched the movies much beyond one time and it wasn't fully because I don't want to be a member of the cringe normie crowd that has spawned since the Disney buyout. Nothing more cringe than those Youtube WHOOOAAA OH MY FUCKING GOD reaction videos to SW Trailers.
