Picking up where I left off yesterday with Powers #33. Previous thread is located here.

Leaving the office now and heading home. Should be 15-20 (might need another 5-10 to get food). Sends bumps if you would like. See you guys soon!
>>89980543
did you start this on your phone?
>>89980520
>that font
Whoa, hella racist.
>>89980862
Starting on my office computer.
Diggin' the white streak in Christian's hair.
Totally getting a DBZ vibe from this page.
Zora is so much hotter here than in the TV show. She was a completely different character, which seemed to be one of the recurring problems with that show. They strayed too far from the source material that it felt largely uninspired (at least for the first season). Season 2 brought their fucking a game
Avengers Assemble!
Einstein's sassy.
>>89981250
>thinking the blonde, white version is hotter than the black version
Whoa, hella racist.
>>89981795
Racism is prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.
I make absolutely zero assertions that my race is superior to any other race, therefore at worst it's just discrimination. That said Zora in the TV show was hot, but I find the older and more mystical/mysterious Zora more intriguing and appealing (got a thing for older women).
>>89981957
It was a joke, relax famalam.
I think Christian is the only superhero I've seen that realistically conveys angst/depression about his powers situation.
>>89982015
I wasn't trying to be mean, I just wanted to clarify lol. I'm sorry if I cam across like that.
How does everyone feel about domino masks?
>>89982015
Also Blonde or Brown Zora? Now that I'm getting older it's harder and harder to judge girl's ages so TV Zora and Callista both look SUPER young to me and I feel kindaaaaa creepy lustin after them.
>>89982123
I both like them and hate them. I like them in the sense in that they're part of the quintessential superhero costume design (second only to capes, of course), but I would never, ever use them in a design of my own.
Honestly, the only time it really worked was on the Spirit, and that's because Eisner came up with the idea at the last minute.
>>89982293
Right now I'm having to finalize a design for the MC's costume in my current comic. He's going to be wearing the costume of a previous villain that died and I cannot for the life of me settle on a design. I'm fairly certain with what I want for the main costume but I keep alternating between the domino mask or full face mask.
Being Christian is suffering.
I think this page is a perfect representation of Bendis at his absolute best.
I was so fucking pumped to see the comic adapted into a television series. I was waiting in anticipation for the Christian/Wolfe showdown and when it finally came...to say it didn't compare is understatement of the century.
I've never seen a villain peace out because their hero wasn't living up to their expectations. The ego on that cannibal is breathtaking.
>>89982438
I really, really, REALLY wouldn't be surprised if Bendis was into ryona/necrophilia. Dude has issues with women.
>>89982642
He looks the normiest person ever.
Fucking love Christian's costume. Great color scheme, simple, and distinctive. Excellent
>>89982806
>this
>normie
Anon, he looks like the kind of guy who'd masturbate at work and try to hide it, but everyone knows what he does.
http://cdn1.sciencefiction.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Brian-Michael-Bendis-thumb.jpg
They completely reversed Christian's attitude towards having Powers in the TV show. Here it's obvious that he's conflicted about them. In the TV show it's obvious that'd he'd fucking blow an entire tribe of aborigines if it got him his powers back.
So weird seeing symbiote armor a good decade before Superior Iron-Man
>>89982975
The Guyver did it decades before.
Triphammer needs his shit kicked in.
>>89980520
>Powers
Whatever happens with this TV show?
>>89983292
It got shitcanned. Bendis BTFO.
KABOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>>89983292
Are you cleverly asking about the comic or actually asking about the TV show?
>>89983011
Looks like I got manga to read and a movie to watch.
>>89983426
>a movie to watch.
Not unless you're a masochist.
>>89983464
THEY'RE'S A SEQUEL STARING DAVID HAYTER WITH MUSIC BY LES CLAYPOOL! HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?!?!?!?
Aw....fuck....
>>89983544
"There's". Fucking butchered that word.
>>89983544
The 90's were weird, man. I have to say the sequel isn't as bad as the original, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you're a big fan of the Guyver.
>>89983596
The premise certainly intrigues me. Does it have any kamen rider/sentai influences or is it more hard sci-fi.
>>89983649
It's like dark toku with symbiotic bio-armors. I haven't read the manga in a good while though, so I don't know if it got worse or what. It hasn't been officially translated in decades either.
Welcome to Thunderdome!
Talk about a kick in the dick. Knowing that your entire life has been someone else's plaything and they can't even remember why they started in the first place. Fuck man
Someone's about to get their shit kicked in.
Christian's friends are so fucking selfish. It's like none of them want him to be happy.
>>89983983
They just don't think he will.
Walker and Cross' friendship in the TV show was a delight. So was his relationship with Triphammer. They actually felt like long time buddies rather than peeople just written to be friends (like his relationship with Denna in the TV show).
>>89984081
I can completely understand that, I think I was just expecting just a tad more social tact. Then again, the TV show emphasized that at some level powers stop fucking maturing as people because the world rewarded them without having to seriously consider their character.
>>89984090
>>89984138
OK Bendis, we get it, you want us to watch your crappy show.
>>89984138
>at some level powers stop fucking maturing as people because the world rewarded them without having to seriously consider their character.
Puts J. Jonah Jameson in a different light when you put it that way.
>>89984229
True unsung hero. The only problem is that he needed to acknowledge when he was genuinely wrong and move on to better uses of his time and energy.
Oh no
This is twisted
Last wish for a dying man
And now we end the first volume with the Powers Annual#1
>>89985200
As usual, Bendis missing the point of an important piece of comic book crafting. In this case, annuals.
>>89985369
>Heresy
Did he mean "hearsay"?
>>89985388
Think that's what he meant.
>>89985425
Jesus Christ Bendis
To be fair, maybe the artist/letterer/whoever actually typed this shit up fucked up and it was right in the script.
Maybe they had too much 40k on the brain.
>>89985448
>Jesus Christ Bendis
I don't like Bendis but to be fair, typos are to be expected in scripts, even screenwriters make typos. That's what editors are for.
So all in all, how did everyone feel about the first volume of Powers? Like? Dislike? Fucking despise? I'd love to hear your thoughts
>>89985261
Vintage Bendis in full form here.
>>89985647
>Bendis was once a Maoist who championed the murderous ideology of Mao Zedong and the Khmer Rouge. We condemn Sim and Moore of their political sins, but Sim tried to prove he was not a hater after "Cerebus". And Moore insisted he loathed misogyny but had simply done as told. Maybe they were full of shit but at least they tried to publicly distance themselves from extreme politics.
>Not Bendis who espoused the most extreme, murderous, and destructive form of leftism. Comic bloggers, so outraged about long retired Sim and long irrelevant Moore, never demanded of Bendis to face up to his past sins. Unlike Ditko and Miller who candidly confessed their approval of, respectively, objectivism and fascism, Bendis has never ever apologized in general, or in specific to the countless victims of the tyrants he supported with all his heart.
>Bendis celebrated and championed Mao's total destruction of culture and intellectual life and the Khmer Rouge that transformed Cambodia overnight into a genocidal stone age Marxist state.
Fuck that piece of shit.
Comparing the first scene of volume 1 to the first scene of volume 2, it looks like Bendis is learning from his mistakes.
>>89985678
Dude you please refrain from posting until I'm sure I don't need all the pages?
>>89985678
Eat penguin shit and die you ass spelunker!!!
>>89983874
I liked this part alot. Realizing the 2 of them haven't been feeling real traumatic physical pain until now was a brain opener. Nevermind living to adulthood without knowing what a real knock on the head feels like, but thousands of years and suddenly you have to process that
>>89985790
Fuck off, Bendis. We're onto you, you piece of shit.
I know Kutter was a huge dick, but even he didn't deserve this. In the TV show he got fucked up too.
>>89985797
Nicely put. So glad Christian finally got a win for once. Even if it was a bittersweet one.
>>89985647
I'm enjoying it. The dialogue is prime Bendis, but it's at least readable. I wanna know what happens next, maaaan.
>>89985653
>We tussles on--on--on the roof, and he slipped
>He slipped.
>He slipped.
>on what
>What?
>On what did he slip? A Banana Peel? Freud?
>What? On the ledge.
It is incredibly Bendis.
>>89984978
I think is where you can really see how much Oeming has grown as an artist since the beginning of the series
>>89985825Fuck
>>89985854
And yet even in the year 2017 A.D. he's still shit. Not even that Young Animal magic helped.
>>89985845
It's deliciously Bendis.
>>89985840
I am so glad to have other peeps reading! I was worried I was actually going to piss people off with these threads.
>>89985854
Fucking right. He may not be everyone's cup of tea but I love his heavily stylized look.
>>89985854
>>89985918
Agreed.
>>89985894
I dunno. His style is a bit weird, but it conveys what it needs to convey. I think it fits this comic.
>>89985944
He's lazy as shit, which you can tell from his backgrounds, anatomy, layouts, overreliance on digital effects, and reused panels (and don't give me any of that "Bendis made him do it" bullshit, at the end of the day it's the artist's choice whether or not they copypaste a panel). People give shit to Ramos and Henderson for the exact same things Oeming is guilty of.
>>89985944
Yeah, it kinda synergizes. The subpar art and the subpar dialogue just compliment each other in this perfect grungy indie feel. I dig it. I feel like I shouldn't, but I do. Sum greater than the parts I guess.
>>89985987
oh senpai, please teach me how to properly hate things I like
>>89986107
What?
I know those red boots
RETRO GIRL!!!
>>89985647
I just read this and I spent the entire time repeating the words "This is reddit, this is memes, this is reddit, this is memes..." under my breath.
I fucking hated it. I was writhing around on the floor in front of my chair for the last 10 pages it was so painful.
Fuck, like half of the images aren't loading for me, thanks for the story-time, I have to go read this on my own.
>>89986200
How embarrassing that have been for you.
Am I supposed to be on the cops side on this one? I know this guy's a cop killer but that's no fucking excuse for being pinned down and beaten with a bat.
.....I officially love this man. For the love of god don't be evil.
Just re-read the issue where Supershock took Denna into space and it was fucking insane! WHy the fuck did no one talk about that when in happened!?!?!
Jesus how much time has past since the first issue? I remember her being a kid and tiny
>>89986460
Because nobody reads Icon. Nobody talked about Scarlet, Brilliant, Incognito or Empress either. The only Icon books people have ever read are Kick-Ass and Nemesis.
And that's going to be it for this thread. I hope everyone here has enjoyed! I'll see you cool cats tomorrow with the next set of issues.
Also which of these options sounds better?
A) Slott's Spider-Man Epic
B) Thunderbolts #110 - Dark Avengers Vol. 2
C) Casanova by Matt Fraction
D) Hellboy Vol. 1-12
>>89986516
C, I don't think anyone has storytimed Casanova here before.
>>89980520
Welcome back, OP. I read the first 12 issues of this last night through the archive.
I still have some catching up to do but I wanted to quickly thank you for the storytime. It's a great read.
Also, Deena is great, fuck you guys.
>>89986629
Years ago it was, I've honestly forgotten about it.
BUMP FOR LIFE!
>>89985743
Wait what, was that not an option for the autopsy of retro girl?
>>89981353
>tfw friendzoned
>>89983983
From Zora's point of view, it's literally suicide.
The two of them don't age--they could go on forever--and she love him, and then he just decides, "Nah, I'm good. About fifty more years is plenty."
Bumpski
Bumparooni!
>>89996051
Bump? Also Johnny Royale was the best thing about the TV show
