The movies make money but beyond box office succes the characters are just not connecting with people that much.

Merchandise wise the only Marvel character that sells is Spider-man and that's more impotant than the box office numbers.

That would require them to find a replacement for Snyder, which they have not done. A reboot but with Snyder still in control of it would have changed nothing.
