So far his only film directing credits are

Cloverfield
Let Me In
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
>>
>>89834670

So it'll probably be solid, not great. I can deal with this.
>>
>>89834682
At least solid is a step up from Snyder. Which really says something about Snyder and the rest of the DCEU
>>
>>89834487
He can deal with big budgets, and i'm sure Affleck's still in charge

Could this be a shimmer of light in this sea of darkness?
>>
This guy is always on the list of redditty blockbuster directors like Nolan, Fincher, Villeneuve, Affleck, Cuaron, etc. and then I look at his filmography and... it's literally nothing.

Why the fuck do people like this guy again? Why are people happy he's making a Batman movies?
>>
>>89834859
>Why the fuck do people like this guy again?

I think it's mainly because people like Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
>>
I mean he's not David Fincher, but still a solid choice. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is a really well done genre action movie.
>>
>>89834882

Reeves

90% Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes
88% Let Me In
77% Cloverfield
42% The Pallbearer

War of the Planet Of The Apes is also prolly very good.

Zack Snyder

27% Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
55% Man of Steel
23% Sucker Punch
50% Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole
65% Watchmen
60% 300
75% Dawn of the Dead

Who would you trust with batman after affleck?
>>

Everyone agrees he blows Snyder out of the Water, but that's really not a high bar.

What are the chances now that they push Batman to 2020 and it's a reboot post DCEU with no Affleck?
WB has already funded his vanity dream project, and it was truly terrible.
He doesn't have to pretend he likes this Batman stuff anymore.
>>
>>89834682
Ayer was also a great director choice, and we saw how that turned out. I honestly think the execs behind the whole DCEU are complete morons. These superhero movies are very much the products of the studios involved and the directors have a lot less impact than usual.

Fuck Homecoming and WW.

The Gameinformer of movie reviewers.

I only like his Ape movie. So feel really lukewarm about this. But hey, isn't Flash supposed to be first and they already ran trough 3 directors. So maybe we'll get someone with a better resume, and just fuck a style or something. This guy's just your fill in director.
>>
>>89840926
"Does he really want to direct Summer Blockbusters?" is the question.

Some people only involve themselves in them to pay back-taxes or to build up favor with the studio. WB already rewarded Ben with his Big Important Movie project, and it utterly shit the bed.
>>
>>89840996
That is my point. He wouldn't have been a good director.
>>
File: Affleck.jpg (206KB, 2048x1358px) Image search: [Google]
Affleck.jpg
206KB, 2048x1358px
Personally I think he'd rather helm another Good Will Hunting or Argo rather than push into big Summer flicks.
He has to know that he's not charismatic enough to carry a flashy action film. He remembers Pearl Harbor, and being the 9th most interesting character in Armageddon.

But that's Ben's niche, being the 7th-9th most interesting character in movies.
>>
>>89840891
Every interview has been how he better not fuck up.
Its alot of pressure when youre an actor worse when you are also the director since the blame would be out solely on them(unless its the DCEU because the extras even get blamed) so i doubt he would want to be put on that bucking horse.
>>
This board is going to be a riot when Ben announces he's leaving the Batman and DCEU
>>
>>89838071
>Major hype for jl, more than BvS or cw had, www less so
Why are you lying
>>
>>89841049
I feel pretty confident that if JL does SS numbers, the DCEU will collapse for a couple of years and the whole thing will reboot as a series of Batman movies with an entirely different cast and creative team.

Joker, Harley and Batman will be back of course, but no one playing those roles now is even remotely valuable in them.

JL will need TDK/TDKR numbers to keep this turd-berg afloat.
>>
>>89841165
And they've shot their big load with Batman vs Superman, Justice League is just the trio going against "villains no one has heard of" with a supporting cast of CW rejects.
I laugh my ass off when they attempt to hype Aquaman or Cyborg.
>>
>>89841165
Thats fucking stupid considering the movies have been hugely financially successful.
>>
>>89840837

Yeah, I misread it as "new director wants to replace Ben" instead of "new director will replace Ben AS DIRECTOR, but Ben isn't leaving."

Although with every new announcement it feels like Ben just doesn't want to anymore. Too much pressure.
>>
Also, hasn't Ben admitted he only does the DCEU to get money/favors for his personal projects?

Which movies are we talking about?
Because I'm pretty sure their goal wasn't to underperform the Nolan films by half a billion dollars.

That acceptable for Wonder Woman or a poorly though out Superman movie. But not for the big Batman clash with Superman with Wonder Woman as the cherry on top.

You don't make that sort of ensemble film hoping to squeak by Thor: Dark World and then celebrate.
>>
>>89841304
Stop just puking back up what you hear. BvS did decent numbers and SS was hugely successful especially with merchandise.

>>89841370
Wait, now BvS is "decent"? What happened to yuge?
Suicide Squad was a good success, although Deadpool made more and cost less than a third as much (probably a quarter or less with marketing).

I don't know how you measure "merchandise" or separate the general sale of Joker and Batman stuff from specific SS items. I'm sure they sold a good deal of Harley stuff, but let's not exaggerate. I shop too, and you just don't see SS merchandise as pervasively as Avengers stuff, not even remotely.

But yeah, Harley 2: Electric Boogaloo seems to be the only spin-off that's on track anymore.
>>
>>89841463
Deadpool did not make more. SS Squad literally broke the record for that month and all the articles were citing how it made more than Deadpool. Stop using 4chan as a source you idiot.
>>
>>89838144
>MCU could never be rebooted

You're cute.
>>
The DCEU is irrelevant now. DC's future lies in LEGO movies.
>>
>>89836187
The guy's movies aren't nearly as bad as everybody says, and a lot of the criticism towards them is just because everyone's used to the Marvel-style movie.

But you're a moron if you think that Snyder's vision of the DCEU is anywhere near what it should really be.
>>
>>89841526

You're not factoring in profit. Considering how cheap Deadpool was to make, it easily made more for its studio than SS did for WB.

It was a freak of a film It was also the best cape film last year
>>
>>89841693

Deadpool barely had any marketing compared to what they did for SS.

And lets not forget the money WB had to spent for reshoots and making the "funnier" edit of the film.

Deadpool had some weird as fuck marketing, but nothing that couldn't be done for 20-30 million tops.
Suicide Squad was given the heavy WB marketing treatment for weeks (as a Joker/Harley movie). It assuredly spent well over 50 million minimum.

Most of the movie takes place on dark city streets with guys in Kick-Ass tier costumes. And Croc, who's really barely in it anyway.
They could reshoot a lot of it in 2 weeks if they wanted, especially light quippery. It's not a Star Wars sequel.
It's a CW episode with a bigger CGI budget.

I mean, I guess Will Smith prepared for months to play Will Smith or something.

It was literally his dream project, and it got a pretty hefty budget for a period gangster film someone wrote in the bathroom.

Yes, it was clearly his personal thing.

My brother thought that BvS looked absolutely incredible, literally everyone I knew was hyped. Then it came out and nobody went to see it. The entire crowd of people I know are the prime superhero targets- they love the Dark Knight and the MCU; only 3 people I know have bothered to see it and only because it was a featured film on Turkish Airlines.

If they had made a good movie it could easily have done double what BvS actually did.

Nobody is excited for JL or WW.

So what ARE the non rumored DCEU movies past Justice League?
because people like you and the Tripfaggot have been breathless about WB's schedule all year. What is actually set in stone? Nothing now?
>>
Who gives a shit, really?
It's Batman. It'll still print money.
They could pick up a no name off the street with no filmography and no work credits and no talent whatsoever and kino trolls would defend it as a bold avant-garde decision on the part of Warner Brothers.

Ability has never mattered. Critical scores have never mattered. Only memes matter.

Aquaman, and Wonder Woman are the only 2 with a release date. Flash as well but that is in limbo.
>>
>>89842463

Past Justice League nothing is set in stone except for Aquaman in November 2018. They're waiting to see how JL goes. before making any more commitments.

At one point the ideal lineup was Flash and Batman in 2018, and Shazam and JL2 in 2019. But with all the shakeups those could all change.
>>
>>89842545
So 12 months with nothing to look forward to but Aquaman? Not a single 2018 summer flick?
Doesn't that seem a bad sign to you?
>>
>>89842689
No. I dont want it to be like the MCU where they are shoveling out 3 movies of shit a year.
>>
>>89842689

They were probably planning to bump up one of their movies to summer 2018 once one of them got far along enough in production. Or just rush one in, since that seems to be WB's new strategy.

Is this what company wars have come to?
Live By Night was at the very least better than Argo.
None you have seen it.

I don't care about the DCEU at this point, either. They fucked it up.
But LBN was great.
>>
>>89842491
That still made money.
Quality doesn't matter. Fanboys can fanboy anything no matter how shit.
>>
>>89842855

Theres a very slim chance they were going to leave summer 2018 empty, is what I mean.

Or maybe not. Maybe they would have no choice but to go with only Aquaman. Its all up in the air right now.
>>
>>89842868
I'd say they're about the same. Not the greatest, nor the worst things ever. They're OK dramas. In hindsight, Argo wasn't anything special.

>>

>>

Well, I watched the rough cut of the movie last week. It has pretty much the same qualities and the same flaws as "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice", but with a bigger scope and way more jokes. When it works, it works great. When it doesn't, it gets pretty messy.

Ask me anything, I guess. Though some details I'll try to keep vague out of self-preservation.

Yes, Lex has a minor, but important role.

As for the invading force, for most of the movie it's just a batallion of Parademons. In the end once the gateway is opened, there's a large army including a warship.

The Flash is on the same level as the TV show, I'd say. Runs at the speed of the sound and he does phase in one scene.

Atlantis is briefly seen, yes.

As good as you'd expect from Snyder. The lower-scale fights are pretty good, and once the scope gets big it gets a little tiresome.

Cyborg's pretty moody and stoic. Maybe even a little bit angsty. But he lightens up in the end.

Batman calls the shots at first and defers command once Superman returns.

Humour's VERY hit and miss. Especially the Flash. Which sucks because he's the designated comedy relief and makes a lot of jokes. Like a joke a minute at times.

Clarks's alright. He's definitely more confident and optimistic once he returns. Until then he's the broody, self-doubting Clark we've come to know from the previous movies.

Supes has longer hair and beard.

An afterlife/purgatory/limbo of sorts modeled after Kent Farm.

He interacts with Jonathan a lot, yes. Martha and Lois appear too, but he can't really speak to them because they're alive. Jonathan and him are preparing for a storm, which is a representation of the alien invasion, and gets closer whenever the Parademons get another Mother Box. Once the invasion starts Clark realizes he's actually in a death-like state and Jonathan is there to help him choose whether he goes back or stays with him. Clark eventually goes back when he hears Lois calling to him.
>>
>>89844465

Steppenwolf's an alien monster in a black and red horned armor with a big axe. Yeah, he's CGI.

The League decide to revive him to stop Steppenwolf from using his body to create soldiers.

Once united the Mother Boxes can create a gateway to Apokolips and bring an army to Earth. There are three, one with the United States government, one with the amazons in Themyscira and one of the atlanteans in Atlantis.

Supes revived with the scout ship in Metropolis.

Supes revived early 3rd act

Cyborg was rebuilt by the Mother Box and is connected to it, which is pivotal to defeating Steppenwolf, but the box itself still exists and works.

They send Steppenwolf back to Apokolips and he's offed by Darkseid.

Cyborg reverts the gateway to pull the Parademons back into Apokolips.

Wonderbat hold hands

Mera is briefly in it. She's the commander of Atlantis Royal Guard and not married to Aquaman yet. In fact she doesn't even like him.

Iris has a brief two appearances, yes. She's a newspaper intern who tries fishing for stories about the Flash in the Central City PD and is very quirky and stuff. Barry has a crush on her.

Clark reunites with Lois, but they don't mention what's become of his life in Metropolis

Aquaman probably the best non-Batman character. He's a moody asshole for most of the movie, but is still presented as a good leader, willing to make compromised. He could go very wrong, but manages to stay pretty endearing throughout.

Highlights

Batman fighting Parademons at Stryker's Island and using the close spaces to trick them into destroying themselves and each other

Aquaman saving the League from some Parademons in Themyscira and summoning marine lifeforms to destroy the ones attempting to escape

Wonder Woman lassos a hugh warship and uses it as a wrecking ball to destroy a swarm of Parademons before throwing it through the gateway.

Superman saving Batman from Steppenwolf.
>>

It's safer, and I imagine general audiences will enjoy the action and the humor, but there's a lot of strange things Snyder added that might throw them off, and a lot could go wrong in editing. The cut I watched is over three hours long.

Luthor is in Arkham Asylum. Batman visits him for information on Steppenwolf, which Luthor leverages for release from Arkham. Batman agrees, but once Luthor tries to return to LexCorp he finds out Bruce Wayne is the new owner. Luthor is later seen hiring Deathstroke to kill Batman. Superman also confronts him through a window and Luthor vows to never stop until Superman is truly dead.

Yes, she does. Her role is fairly minor. She's still mourning Clark's death and working at the Daily Planet. For some reason she can sense Clark's presence while he's trapped in the afterlife.

Batman figures out she's the key to bringing Superman back and Flash brings her to the battlefield in Metropolis. She reaches out to Clark while's he's in the rebirth matrix and her voice calls him back to life. They're later seen reuniting at the farm. Martha is also there.

There's definitely some weird things in the movie. The leader of the ancient humans is what appears to be an ancestor of Bruce Wayne complete with a bat-like cloak/cape thingy, and Batman is a literal oracle who's having prophetic visions because fate chose for it to be so.

Also Superman's black suit just sort of happens.

So that's it, pretty sure it's bullshit but it sounds kinda cool. The netherworld/afterlife thing sounds like something Snyder would do.

>"Well, I am no longer willing to direct, but I guess I can show up and drive the not a car thing around..."
Don't forget that he still have NOT officially signed up to play Batman in THAT film. He only has JL2 left on his contract, the Batman solo film isn't in it. Affleck, in theory, can walk away. Not likely, but if he is sufficiently pissed of he still can.

>This board is going to be a riot when Ben announces he's leaving the Batman and DCEU
That would be the last straw for DCEU methinks. At that point Aquaman might become a standalone film.
>>
>>89840836
>>89834689

Fun fact about "Dawn" is that, much like MoS, they were under a time crunch and he was the only one willing to work under those conditions. It really shows the difference between those two directors, though, because all of Reeves' additions were the best parts, like the beginning where the apes are just hunting elk and living in trees, whereas Snyder.... yeah

Anyhow, just saying that, no matter how shitty a script is and how rushed it may be, a director can either elevate or reduce the film's quality.
>>
>>89845108
They could cut that scene pretty easily.
>>
>>89845108
I think WB is contractually obligated to have him in some way, especially with how publicized it was when he was cast.

>>89846362
I'm pretty hyped, ApeKino 3 is one of my anticipated movies

>>89844629
Yeah, very Snyder-esque, but I can live with whatever he does, hell I do for BvS

And about the big fights across the action films, I think they lose that spectacle when you get exposed so many and they start declining as films go along.
>>
>>89846662
That's Rise dude.
Producers like working with directors that say yes or "I'll see what I can do". It also helps if you help if you partially fund the film, like Snyder does with his wife.
