i would recommend adding the top of the halucipede in panel two like its crawling up his shirt, change the sound effect from slurp as centipedes dont have tongues maybe nibble? and keep the centipede on the sweater or falling down on panel 5

>i would recommend adding the top of the halucipede in panel two like its crawling up his shirt, change the sound effect from slurp as centipedes dont have tongues maybe nibble? and keep the centipede on the sweater or falling down on panel 5

Good idea, I'll see what I can do.
>>
>>89817813
>>89817875
Oh, by the way, the reason why you can't see the centipede in the last panel is because he completely entered Kevin's body, so the "slurp" sound isn't a bite, it's... whatever noise it would make having a centipede slipping right through your skin. I can add a little hole on Kevin's throat in the last panel to make it more clear, though.

>>
>>89818015
You're right, I'll have to change that.
>>
>>89818005
Oh that makes sense. so the problem there is that there's no clear visual way to depict a centipede entering his neck, unless it was more than halfway in, because your eye doesn't readily see "a centipede burrowed partway in" as different from a normal centipede.

A friend and I have been coming up with some characters for a webcomic series. It involves, two girls beating the shit out of random people After visiting the sticky links, we haven't fleshed out a story arc completely which I know, could be helpful for foreshadowing, etc.

I just don't want to fail again, reddit was relentless to us in the past.
>>
>>89818349
>anime is for pedos
>tumblr is for emo girls
>actually watched Drake and Josh
There's no way this shit can exist beyond the year 2001. I'm amazed we can even see your images instead of actual TV static where a jpg should be.
>>
>>89818789
the sad thing is, I like nonsequiturs and 'ta-da!' endings, it's just that they get so tired so quickly and basically require the rest of the comic to really shine in order to be worth reading.
>>89818900

I meant the writing resources resource in the original post. Anyway, I think I'll just stick to drawing requests. I'm too stupid to write and want to focus on drawing.

Check out my webcomic, /co/! It just got an update!

A boy falls in love with a girl. He is mysteriously gifted with her phone number. He calls her and finds out that she likes him as well. But the next day, she doesn't remember the confession. The girl he called is not the same girl he fell in love with. In fact, she doesn’t exist in this universe at all. She is the girl’s alternate universe counterpart, who likes his own alternate self. Hijinks ensue as the two tell each other their darkest secrets to conquer the hearts of their other selves.

we're lucky to have the internet now at least.
and sometimes a ripoff can turn more unique over time.
my favorite thing is to let a character branch out and start homaging other characters until they're half a composite and half a running gag

>>89822233
One character I've spent the most time on is meant to be the opposite of a typical shonen hero
>>
Finally started working on mine. Here's the WIP of my first two pages. It's a dream that kicks off the main character's story arc. The recurring dream sequence will all be in this artstyle but the rest of the comic is in a slightly simpler style so I can make it a little faster, since this takes a couple hours too long for my comfort. Wanting to update two pages twice weekly like this.

Yesterday i uploaded 2 new pages to my "choose your own adventure" webcomic. Barely passed 24 hours and already 6 people voted. That just doubles last week's votes.

Also, i've got a question. The universe of Arkanoth is something a bit complex, that needs some explanation, but i don't want to go like mangas that spend 20 pages explaining how thing works, but i also don't want to throw things without info knowing that this kind of narrative (the 1 or two pages per week where readers decide) doesn't allow me to explain things easily. Would be TOO TERRIBLE to add parallel pages on the own world's blog that explain some of the complicated things? I did it with this update, added one page to explain a bit what Dungeoneerists are, you read it if you want after clicking on the link.

Anyway, any critique is really welcome, leave here the link to read from the start or go to the new pages:

Oh, good idea! I told people to send questions to explain anything they want to know as the story unveils.

they also grill a shit ton of hotdog and other bbq meats on there cute little goth grills! ^^

in my defense, not only is that crop from 4 years ago, but it was part of a series of drawings i did in less than 2 days as part of a free give away of art on deviant art, none of the characters where mine and i wasn't very good with anatomy back then and just freestyled and made anatomy up back then but im much better now 4 years later here in 2017 man

also that autism quote was from a fake deviantart account someone from here made up just to troll me in a very hateful and but hurt way because i out trolled the trolls and that pissed the troll off into making a fake account with fake info, it was pretty funny though

some of those other quotes are mine and i really believed that stuff back then but i think i have grown as an artist and as a person since then

tl,dr: dont reply to the outdated dont reply meme. filter "dont reply" and you wont have to see this hater fail at being a hater which is really sad, lol

>linework help
its a simple style so simple linework would do. thicker on closer things, thinner on farther, that kind of thing. mostly you just need to make your lines smoother and more confident.
dropping some basic shadows, cast and form, would really help bring it out. also establishing a value pattern. maybe even for organic things do a bit of cross-hatching

God, no wonder I stopped posting here. Opacity in storytelling can build interest and stories can also be told abstractly. Just because you don't personally find it moving or interesting (though I would argue that's because you don't know how to read it in the first place) doesn't mean it's "artsy fartsy bullshit." You're the kind of dumbfuck who thinks when somebody says comics that they mean Marvel and DC.

>>89822483
To the artist - the 9 grid works well here. I like the juxtaposition of the grid with the ambiguity of image and color. It's literally the best thing I've seen posted here since I started lurking again a couple weeks ago. I also like your use of color here as symbolic rather than naturalistic. Folks here are rather ignorant about this kind if work, so don't take it to heart.
>>
>>89833843
>Opacity in storytelling can build interest and stories can also be told abstractly.
Sure, but I'm not going to trust some random asshole on the internet to be able to do that well. If I see some bullshit like this from some nobody, I'm not going to assume they're one of the 0.000000001% of authors who know what they're doing, I'm going to make the safe assumption that I'm wasting my time, and then move on.
>>
>>89833918
You're not educated in the medium if you think the percentage of artists who work in comics that can pull off this type of narrative is so small.

How is a nobody supposed to become a somebody - and how are we supposed to keep the medium fresh and viable - if the only ones "allowed" to do unconventional or challenging narratives are already established? It would suck to approach comics as though they were meaningless until approved or recognized by the old guard.

I respect my readers enough to know they don't need me to hold their hand. Plus, in this comic's case, it appears that the abstractions in the dream will be contextualized later on - it seems to function as a prologue. Foreshadowing isn't an uncommon thing in storytelling...

There's nothing wrong with pages in that style, but it's not a very good way to open your comic if you're producing for the web. Internet readers tend to be even quicker to push your work aside if it doesn't immediately engage them.

On top of that, the composition feels...not quite deliberate enough. It doesn't flow terribly well, but it doesn't seem to give an impression of being choppy and frantic either. Pieces like the falling figure into standing figure into same upside down isn't utilized in a striking way, the focus on figure in each seems arbitrary rather than choreographed. The contrast of the orange and blues is diluted by the orange being nearly all encompassing in page 1 but the blue sharing too much real estate with other colors in page 2. The eye being mirrored between pages ALMOST works, but lacks the impression of intent; I'd say being a clearly defined right eye both times instead of opposites or a more neutral eye is the culprit there.

This CAN work, but in a vaccuum it isn't striking.
>>
>>89838412
I appreciate that you can explain why it doesn't work for you. I don't care if we have different taste - but I hate when folks dismiss something just because it "looks" like something else and don't think of why.

Hey anon, I'm the guy who posted the page. Maybe I can explain a bit.

>Internet readers
While this is true I would like to give my readers the benefit of the doubt, and hope they see where this is going. Obviously this whole endeavor was a major misstep from the reaction in this thread.

>the composition feels...not quite deliberate enough. the focus on figure in each seems arbitrary rather than choreographed.
I assure you it's very deliberate. 1 is a far shot, 2 is a medium shot, and 3 is a closeup (or blackout, to disrupt the flow). Panel 5 on page 2 will have a larger shadowy figure, it's still WIP.

>The contrast of the orange and blues
There is a general flow from yellow and harsh blood-red into a warm violet across the first page, which then continues in page two from violet to blue. The sun also transitions from blood-red into predominantly yellow. This is meant to show a progression within the dream from flashes of images and memories into a colder, linear narrative within the dream itself. This is expanded upon later, but I wanted to convey through color a sense of warmth cut between bad memories into a nightmare, which is why the shot scheme reverses as well across the pages and 1s become 3s. It narrows in further with each subsequent row.

>The eye being mirrored between pages
This is also intentional. The shot of his right eye is a reoccurring motif and, if you follow the comic, you'll see the format is played with to reflect his mental state from the colors to the shot distance. It's always hit right eye for story reasons which will be revealed on page 174 I believe. The entire comic is fully mapped out at 188 pages. Every image in the first spread is explained and detailed further in the story, which is about a cartographer mapping a surreal, uncharted land while quietly stalked by the demon which resides there. I hope you'll stick around for it though! And thanks for actually going into detail about it, I appreciate the feedback.

I watched an episode of Hunter X Hunter (fairly far in) and was actually kinda mad to see a child character was able to effortlessly beat 40 strong men. Granted, this is a work of high fiction, I'm unable to "suspension of disbelief" (for the life of me I cannot figure out a different way to say that)

After that moment I decided to make my fights more believable, that includes characters not being able to fight for lengthy periods of time or should a character find him/herself fighting more than 2 foes alone, no matter the difference in skill level (aside from perhaps civilian class), the first priority would be to flee.

While some characters might discuss tactical advantages to drawing out fights by avoiding the use of their best skills out of the gate, most characters with any combat training will concede that it is important to end a fight as quickly as possible.

It's even harder to read and kills the punchline with the balloons in the wrong order. While Left reads before Right, Top reads before Bottom.

how big a kid? kids DO have superior speed and endurance, if he knew how to hit all the weak spots I could see him taking out a couple.. and if he was super trained in martial arts, I mean..

in any case, that's good. anytime you see something in fiction that rubs you wrong, fixing it is what makes your work feel like it had someone involved who cared
>>
>>89844132

it wasn't a weakpoint deal, this kid could actually fight and defeat these guys like they were paper.

The roster of the first few chapters of people who have had training but zero fights outside of the dojo, while another character has been getting into fistfights their entire life.

well sure there is, he could be an anomaly in some way, a prodigy, a young bruce lee, or something supernatural or inhuman. that's what makes fighting shit fun. but you have to balance it right so it always feels believable. Every hit, every bit of physics should pull you in, not take you out. that's how I feel anyway, and I've been choreographing fights in my head my whole life.
>>89844522
well it's subtle, it just looks like maybe your aspect ratio is just slightly off, or that you've been resizing without preserving it, or something. Everything looks a little oddly elongated but only vertically. it's not just limbs being long but faces look narrow. when I take a picture like this redraw, or your most recent sketch dump, or the guy with the sword and round shield, and squash it vertically by a good 15-20 percent, it looks a little more normal.. but it's hard to tell, since the proof would be in something diagonal looking wrong, and not much here is diagonal

can you just draw us a circle or square, eyeball it so it looks roughly equal in every direction? maybe it's just my imagination

I will be real with you bones, only because you've matured enough to be able to use this knowledge.

This comic, as it is, will not be super popular. The concept might be good, but your art isn't quite there yet. You don't need to be super good at art, but the art needs to be consistent and have nice looking shapes (consistency is your biggest weakness). The fact that you can evaluate yourself and face your shortcomings now means you can move forward. This comic is not the end goal, it's a stepping stone. You will keep doing it and learn a lot in the process, just don't get your hopes up. It's part of the journey, not the destination, and I hope you don't get discouraged. For every comic that you make the art/writing your main focus, you'll get better and better.

How do I get over the agonizing realization that people I know will see my comic? I'm not very good with expressing myself. I can't just hide because someone I know always manages to find my newest tumblr/Instagram/whatever account. I don't want to just water my story down either, though. What do? My brain keeps telling me not to post it at all and just store it forever in my secret sketchbooks, but something else is telling me to just put it all out there.

I'm going to follow you and like all of your stuff!"

I don't even know if I'm worried about them not liking it. It's just that my comic would be so personal, and I don't know if I can bring myself to just share that with people I know. Yet I'm totally fine with sharing it with strangers on the Internet....

you're insulting them by treating the subject like a deletion just because it happened to them. It's real, it happened.. if you don't depict it it's like you're saying no it didn't happen.

It's about a dowdy nerd-girl who finds a library bulletin board ad for one of those cheesy afterschool youth reading clubs, but SURPRISE it's enchanted to only be visible to teens with latent magical/psychic potential, and instead of reading they fuck around with their powers under the scant supervision of a guy who roughly looks and acts like the lovechild of Gandalf and Willy Wonka. If I want to make a living out of webcomics or character design, is it good to learn indesign? My mom thinks I should take some courses to learn it.
>>
>>89865206
Photoshop or Illustrator would be a better choice for general drawing.

Indesign is for assembling things like flyers, magazines, comic books, etc.
>>
>>89865291

Thats what I thought, i have some indesign textbooks at home, but its so confusing to me. So much more complex than using something like photoshop or mangastudio. Maybe it just me and I dont understand the material. Total indesign newb here.
>>
>>89865206

InDesign is more for desktop publishing stuff - book and magazine layouts, basically. Industry standard for creative illustration and concept art was Photoshop for a long time, but the attitude may have changed somewhat in recent years with software like Illustrator and Paint Tool SAI slowly gaining more traction among the more stubborn studios.

Unless you're "download more RAM"-tier computer illiterate, software courses aren't gonna teach you anything you can't find for free online. You really have to be a vicious autodidact to succeed in comics, anyways.

I've just started learning how to seriously draw. Proko was recommended to me, so I started with that. Loomis seems a bit advanced right now. I'm THAT new. Now he seems to really like the overhand grip, but I'm nervous with how that will translate to a tablet, which is what I plan on doing 90 percent of my art with when I'm good enough.

tl;dr - is Proko and the overhand grip good if I want to make comics on a tablet, or should I stick with tripod and find a different 'teacher?'
>>
>>89847100
Are there any good comic artists who left this place behind? All I can think of is the one who made that comic about demons in winter land.
>>
>>89871413
tripod? overhand?
I've never gone in-depth on grip before, I think everyone has their natural comfortable grip, and what matters is how you move your wrist (and something people often neglect, your elbow)
I can tell you a tablet handles roughly the same as pen and paper, unless you were trying to literally color with the side of it, the way you might with a colored pencil. there are some tablets that can handle angle, I'm told, but most are just a pinpoint and pressure, so the important thing is working on pressing and releasing your pressure in as smooth a manner as possible.

That's what Proko is teaching (Versus tripod being the way you write.) so it sounds like I should try a different class that focuses on a different grip if my goal is using a tablet well. Dynamic sketching seemed like it's up my alley, but I'm not sure about dropping 700 bucks on a class. Any other recommendations?
>>
>>89871668
the fuck would you spend money for? If you can't commit your own time and dedication to learning all the free shit there is on youtube and everywhere, dropping $700 is not some magical solution
>>
Question for artists. How long did you/should you practice anatomy before starting to stylize your art? How did you know it was time?
>>
>>89871736
Can you recommend me some of the free shit? That's exactly why I'm asking. I have no experience, so I can't tell the garbage tutorials from the actually helpful ones. Proko and Dynamic Sketching were both recommended to me, but the former uses overhand grip and the latter costs money, so I need other options.
>>
While before I have stated that I wish to avoid trope heavy characters, I think I'm doing alright if this one is the closest.

She (names aren't finalized yet, i'll call her Yumi for the time being) was the third born and only daughter of a wealthy family. When Yumi was 8, both of her parents died in a tragic vehicle accident. The elder son would be named the head of the estate and use his family's assets to start his own law firm. He would act as the custodian to Yumi's Trust and effectively cut her off. The middle brother would be in agreement. As the years go by, she would come to view this act as a betrayal and blame her weakness in the family on being a girl.

Soon after her parent's died, Yumi would one day meet Oko, who had just been disowned by her own parents because of her powers, and the two became fast friends. As the years went on, they became closer and She became romantically infatuated with Oko, yet unable to confess her feelings out of fear that their friendship might end.

Oko had always been straight forward with Yumi about her powers, but one day Yumi began developing powers of her own. Fires would start around her when she got mad. To control herself, Yumi sought to learn a martial art. Among her few remaining fond memories of her past, she recalled her love of samurai movies and wished to learn Kendo. Her brother supported the idea and allowed the use of her trust to enroll.

By the start of the comic, she'll have a basic control of her powers, at least enough not to start fires unless she wants to. She'll have a slight amount of disdain for her being a girl, so she opts to not wear more feminine clothing despite her face unmistakably being that of a young woman's. She'll also hold a bias against men.

warm up on the tablet as if you were warming up in your notebook, then just keep going, focus on form for now, ill locate a website that works perfectly for gesture drawings
>>
>>89872684
Gesture is the most important part of drawing anatomy, all of the individual parts could look perfect but not come together correctly. Starting with the gesture trains your eyes how to look at the form, and the detail comes later.

https://www.quickposes.com/en
>>
>>89872805
that does sound slightly familiar.. I don't think he posted much before leaving, just a few designs.
>>
>>89872881
Thanks, that'd be a huge help. I am noticing quite a bit of improvement just from finding a picture I like and trying to replicate it, but I know that if I don't have the foundations down and I'm not, say, holding the pencil right or something, then I'll absolutely hit a wall sooner rather than later.

And regardless, that doesn't help me too much when trying to draw from my imagination. Take away reference pictures and I can barely draw a recognizable cat.
>>
>>89872995
Just keep drawing, you'll eventurally find whats more comfortable.

Also, don't fear using references. All artists do it. They had a bunch of concept artists from Bethesda try to draw a horse without any references, was horrid.
>>
>>89872995
>>89873059

>>89873059
in fact memorizing can mess with you, if your memory starts to drift, and soon you find yourself drawing an animal 'the same way you always did' but with a major mistake you never realized because you were pretty good at it in the first place and didn't think you needed references

>Also, don't fear using references
My big stumbling block right now is knowing when I'm going TOO far with references. I get using references, but at what point does it just become copying an image?

Like plz no bully, this is one of the first things I drew when I got my tablet, and I know I'm not good yet. Also I'm color blind. this is literally just me redrawing two pictures I got from google and tossing a shitty background on it. Is that relying too heavily on references? Or is that normal?
>>
>>89873294
never outright copy the picture, a good example is that this hand holding the sword doesnt look right, so ill look up various pictures of people holding objects, compare them to my drawing, and use the information i learned to fix it. Maybe it was the wrist configuration, so seeing how a wrist moves when the hand is holding something is important.

Maybe the dog in your picture wants to play, dogs have that body language so you can look up the pose.
>>
>>89873294
well see, just because you aren't pulling the reference from your imagination doesn't mean you aren't still using it. a 2d image requires imagination to understand how all its parts fit together. you should be able to rearrange those poses in your head, once you get good and practiced at it

the cat's better than the dog, but this is a fine work with your first tablet. i uh.. i think the scale might be off, and the kitten is on a further-back plane than the dog, and obviously the background was just a space-filler. but the important thing is you did a fine job using the references, now try a few more different poses and see if you can extrapolate one yourself.

also, colorblind huh? were you going for realism? because the sky is a shade off, and the kitten is a completely alien color, but the rest is accurate. you'll probably have to learn to eyedrop

Okay, okay, I see what you're getting at. Kinda like getting enough reference material in your head that you have an imaginary model to work with, or using images more like legos.

As for the color, skies and grass will never be right for me, so I've decided to just let it be there, but the cat I eyeballed from a reference image of a bengal that I can't find again, so that's not supposed to be that alien. I can never get droppered colors to look right, but if it's that bad, I'll work on that when I get to a good place with the actual line work.

So you're saying that an artist's "style" is really an effect of how they perceive what they're drawing, not something consciously crafted?
>>
>>89873853

"Style" in the sense of visual identity in one's art mainly boils down to personal interest. A style enables someone to draw more of the things they like drawing while minimizing what they don't. "Stylization" is a related concept, but not entirely - all art is, on some level, stylized.
>>
>>89873853
mm.. I think it's more about preferences in geometry
like, we have words in our language for square, circle, pentagon, but we don't have names for 'the approximate shape of a forearm or shin with calf' or 'the kind of angular shape of a hinge joint' and correspondingly, we're always winging them. especially since anatomy is never perfectly regular anyway. so to some extent you have to put in your own taste.
hell we don't even have a name for the two-cornered oval shape of an eye. what most people do is draw the top arch one way, the bottom arch another way, and decide how they best enjoy connecting them
>>
>>89873853

i have no idea what kind of mumbo jumbo your talking about, but now that i think about it I think i tried to make up unique drawing styles before i taught my self anatomy with books, youtube, google, and real life study

I like this, i love a seinfeldian conversation with rabbits, but I've gotta criticize some of the choices.. that kind of hatching really messes with the fur patches, making them look more like part of their head has been eaten away. also going by the 10th and 11th panels or so, you're trying to make big pupils in the eyes, but almost every other panel just looks like creepy empty eye sockets
basically all together they look like zombunnies, and I assume they aren't actually meant to be zombunnies. everything else is great.

That your characters never have any sense of personal space like aren't they annoyed at how close they are to eachother at all times?? Sorry if I'm being nit picky but i noticed that about your pages although you have improved on the layouts of the pages, I'm digging the face shot at the bottom, your getting good at when to present different types of shots and there placements, just work on how the characters physical interaction, I'd be annoyed if people where that close to me every damn sec and that's not being anti social.

If you're going to ask that the artist pay more attention to their character spacing, could you at least bother with proper punctuation?
>>
>>89876532
Your character's pupils are so damn big it's hard to tell where she's looking or how she's emoting.

IF they were just dot eyes it'd be one thing, but you're putting in sclera that's hard to even see in some panels.

I was trying to imitate how eyes look like in actual rabbits. I have trouble towing the line between looking like actual rabbits and making them emote.
Thanks for the feedback. Should I give them just dot eyes or make the pupils smaller?

Final page of the chapter.
Don't forget guys. Rip it to shreds. any flaws in a story are like tumors. Unless treated quickly they only grow until they kill the whole body.
>>
>>89876744
Hm, maybe make the whole eye black and add a consistent shine or pupil depending on the character? The all black with no detail is where it gets into zombie territory. The little sliver of white on the sides in panels 3, 5, and 6 here >>89876673 really helps make it look more lively, though I do also like all black with the shine in panel 4
>>
>>89876873
this. all-black rabbit eyes should have some shines in them
or you can leave a crescent of white around, as if theyre just huge black pupils. i like that look too
>>
>>89876794
so far it's just cute, is it going to just be a slice of rabbit life? I like it
just make sure when you resize this for putting online, you shrink it down to 1000 wide or so. might wanna test that now, make sure the test is all still readable (should be)

>>
>>89877317
2 is best just make sure we see the whites consistently
>>
>>89877309
The grey scale give it good sense of atmosphere. But the way the panels are laid out hurts the pacing of the joke. The sudden explosion would have more impact if the narration on the top page didn't spoil it.
>>
>>89877317
2 3 and 4 are all good. 2 is the most underutilized, so i'd like to see you make that work
if you were going with 3 it'd be best to make the eyes a little bit more oval, so they read properly.
>>
>>89877317
Seconding 2 being the best. 3 is in second place if you don't like the white slivers for whatever reason.

Consistency is the key. Either make sure you can always see the whites, or always see the shinies (barring mindbreaking, of course.)

And if you're having trouble with emoting, eyebrows help a ton with that. 3 with good eyebrows might beat 2 with no eyebrows.
>>
>>89877472
I had no idea it looked creepy. I've been drawing these bunnies for so long that I never even noticed. They're suppose to look cute, I guess.

Alien language when your bunnies already look like ayylmaos.
You just have to draw a little white around the pupil, they look creepy with out it.
>>
>>89877364
you silly goose, you don't pay attention to the length. anyone can just scroll.
for example your page 2 is currently 2352x4200, so once you make it 1000 wide, it'll be 1000x1786. your program will do that automatically.
>>
>>89877667
solid black eyes without shines are always really creepy unless they're perfect circles, and then they have to be below a certain size
>>
>>89877587

i was afraid of that but without the narration the empty road with the way i painted it with texture brushes make the whole page look like shit.

the only way to get rid of the narration and not make the page feel empty and useless is to draw a car parked beside the road... which i dont feel like doing right now, i feel like going to the next page already! just bust these pages out back to back until the first chapter is finished and then maybe give linewebtoons another chance since its designed for comic chapters instead of single comic pages.
>>
>>89877536
I see what you mean. It also has a lot potential for expression. I just fear that it'll make them look too human.
>>
>>89877612
The advise on 3 is duly noted. I plan on introducing more rabbits so having feedback how to make different eye shapes work is a great help.
>>
>>89877616
On eyebrows. How much eyebrow do you think I can get away with while remaining rabbit looking.
>>
>>89877692
Thank you for the advise. Fun fact on that language. It can actually be translated.

goth girls are cute, CUTE! not creepy! Goth girls make being depressed and sad sexy as fuck! the black clothes and black lipstick they wear represents the black darkness of there lifes, they are like shadows to the world that they exist in. They smoke cigarettes to blacken there lungs and drink black coffee so they can be have black darkness on the inside and the outside! I love goth girls!

>>
>>89877833
i would make them integrated with their head. like, an eyebrow-bulge, rather than a line or extra hair
except for an elderly rabbit, then you can add more bushy brows.

you should check out Scurry, their level of humanization of mice is freakin perfect
>>
>>89877911
ah, if you want to print it, then you need to start keeping the aspect ratio consistent. Right now it's too long and narrow.
I forget the preferred aspect ratio of a comic page but it's roughly 4:3 yeah? like 8.5x11 inches
>>
>>89877750

I really want to make a short comic where the main character has a shit life, just as things are going to get better, just the slightest fucking chance of hope. His life comes crashing down, more painful and humiliating before. You want so much for him just to have happiness but I won't write an ending so satisfying. In the end, the character dies, unhappy and alone.

But this is basically an underdog story with no satisfaction, so why would anyone read it? Or... I guess it's Watamote.

Anyway, I don't want to get committed so I'll probably never publish anything.

A lot of conservatives I talk to usually tend to blame the prospective employee for lack of skills and degree rather than the employer for demanding skills and degrees for jobs that didn't require them 30 years ago. It's well known that most employers use this as a cheap screening process to shut out "poor quality canidates" from even getting an interview.

I really don't know politics all that well though because I watch cartoons and read comics in my spare time.
>>89882119

everyone i know, left and right, agrees it's the colleges' fault for not PROVIDING those skills anymore, and for pressuring employers into only hiring their graduates in order to preserve their otherwise-depleted usefulness. it's not the employers or the employees, they're both being played.
>>
>>89882611
That makes sense, it's also horrendous how much they're charging, even public colleges that receive our tax dollars. $10,000 a year for the average student to attend, and that's on the low end. It's laughable that public education is free K-12 and then students are slammed with this price tag. How the hell is that justified? Especially being public, scrap sports and everything that isn't helping the students gain skills and knowledge useful for their career. I digress, I don't want to flood this thread.

If he improves his art, it won't matter if he intends for it to be ironic or not - it will read ironically. This could be a great hit, but seeing how slow his art progresses it might be years before he can create the ironic emo goth comic that I'm imagining. The window for that might close by then too. But that line was grade A comedy, he has it in him although not in the way he hopes.

Wilfreda the Wanna-Be Witch. Valentines Day story arc. 3 of 4. ONGOING.

Back with the boys, Julian and Victor feel the weight of guilt as they keep ignoring the assignment.

Yes, this is mostly copy-paste. I happen to do this quite a lot with this webcomic.

Wilfreda the Wanna-Be Witch. Valentines Day story arc. 4 of 4. ONGOING.

The boys arrive at school with their Valentines Day cards in hand. Julian wonders if that would be enough. Victor tries to reassure him...

... and then they see Betty's Valentines Mountain. It's always the quiet ones, guys!

The Valentines Arc continues next Thursday. Read it all on http://wilfredacomic.tumblr.com/

steel plate (assuming thats what hes wearing) actually usually weighed between 35-60 pounds. the same amount of material in gold should only weigh around 100-140, which is certainly not enough to make him completely immobile.

indeed steel, that's going to be a plot point in a second.. otherwise I considered titanium for lightness since it's gold-plated, and because fuckit fantasy metallurgy skills, fae would need an alternative.

but... really? gold's under 3 times as dense as steel?
>lookin it up
fuck me, haha. Well alright let's just call this overcompensating for all those times in fiction when gold is treated like it's no heavier than brick (for added cred I should really have things burst into flames when they so much as LOOK at lava. but so far I've gone with typical video game cliche lava proximity, especially with Riven who's extra fireproof, but then I fucked that up a bit too because lava is a lot hotter than Mercury's surface. but then I came up with another bullshit excuse for that and used it in #953)

actually the main issue I was thinking wasn't so much weight as that the metal collapsed in on itself at the joints because it's too soft, hence why he doesnt fall over completely. like the legs at least, i figured, are now fused. I guess he should still be able to move the arms though.

Thanks! The forest is unusual in that it only grows a particular kind of gingko (which I assure is planned, not just a weird copout) but I really should start working in some weirdly shaped trunks and saplings to add visual variety.

>>89893706
saplings and shrubbery are the key to making a forest floor not look bare and plain, yeah. unless it's a rainforest with a canopy so solid that nothing can grow down there

before I suggested that, I was actually going to suggest putting some kind of blurring effect on it, but I can't think of what kind would be appropriate for that situation. Not lens/focus blur, but something nice and streaky I would think. I'd like some tips for this situation if it ever comes up for me, actually, if anyone knows what works best for that. I feel like it's... a soft, blurry mosaic? that makes it look like paint daubs?

Oh I've got the scripts all done and everything. I've been looking for a local artist but in the mean time I figured why not try and turn my doodles into a comic.

I've got the story just can't visually express it as well as I wish I could. Stuff like the logan picture are just a way for me to learn how to incorporate figures into a (albeit simple) scene.

Thought it was Mr. Murder at first
I would love if there was a character named that
>Yes, it's kind of embarrassing. It's French, you know

>>
>>89901901
I love this design. If you want him to look Hippier, maybe he's kinda thin because he only eats granola and hemp. on the other hand, more librarian-y would be as simple as giving him smaller glasses and/or bifocals
>>
>>89902378

That is pretty funny, you're right. Not right for this guy, but I too would like to see character named that. Especially if he's a really innately likeable guy, despite his name.

>>89902405

Thank you! Maybe I'll be more decided after I try to color it. I might ditch the tweed jacket in favor of just the Hawaiian shirt, I dunno.
>>
r8 my comic pls http://www.theduckwebcomics.com/Sword_of_Kings/
>>
>>89902674
the jacket works, it reminds me of that guidance counselor from Freaks and Geeks, like he's an old hippie but he can still play ball and wear a suit jacket for work. But he's a skinny hippie and it doesnt fit him very well (both literally and figuratively) so you have bunched-up bits at the elbows and puffy pointy bits at the shoulders that clearly aren't his real shoulders. This guy's got more smooth slumpiness to him, so it comes off more like a kindly grandpa in a sweater

I love how I put so much more thought into other peoples' work than my own, just because it gets me thinking in directions I wouldn't think in.

A comic made of figure photography composites is unique, but I can't imagine where this story would go that I'd care to follow. Starting with a battle that people have no premise for is a bold choice that will probably lose a lot of readers - who's who? what are the stakes? do I care? - and you'll lose nuance in future personal interactions in the comic by using figures with unchanging faces. You're clearly invested and you've put the work into the figures, but you need compelling characters and story to sell it, especially with the unconventional art style.

>>
>>89906925
once you have a decent following
domains start out at like, 12 bucks a year, but that only comes with so much bandwidth and whatnot, so eventually you'll have to buy more hosting, which is a struggle until you get over the point where the ad-views start paying enough (youd think it'd be 1:1 but I guess somehow it isn't?) to cover it and even make you a little profit if you get really big

It really depends on how much you can do yourself. A simple low-traffic site (like a webcomic) doesn't need much in terms of resources, so a basic VPS with a lighttpd (lightweight, open-source web server) installation should be enough to handle it. That sort of setup requires a basic understanding of systems adminstration (e.g. operating a system via console, connecting with SSH, using FTP, etc.) It's really not that hard when you buckle down to it, but it's complicated enough that a lot of people either use a managed site host or hire a webmaster. I will say, though, that there is something deeply satisfying about seeing a "from scratch" installation go live, much more so than using one of those kitschy "ANY1 CAN MAEK SITE NAO!!!" hosts.

To answer the question you actually asked, about as much as buying lunch at a semi-ritzy place once a month, not counting site design/webmastering costs if you choose to hire someone to do that for you.

Source: amateur sysadmin (mostly game servers, but I did code up and run a basic website to serve as an information hub for the last one I had.)

A comicpress site is probably the simplest/cheapest/easiest method. That's about 8-12 bucks a year.

As for scalability, Dumbing of Age uses comicpress, and that's a pretty big/popular site (I imagine they pay for than $8/year for hosting, though that's because they get so much traffic).

>>
>>89910419
excellent, post it everywhere. Keep the description vague so they can't tell if it's really ironic or not, because that's where the humor lies. Another problem you'll encounter is people who won't even give it a chance because the art is unappealing, so if there's a hook to your description that'll get them checking out a few pages at least you'll start to build a readership.

Goth girls
>they're edgy as fuck
or
>you can't even imagine how dark they are

>you'll need a flashlight to read this, cus it's dark as fuck

Something that engages them just enough to lure them in.

>>89913024

I'm glad to see people are interested in it. It's been really fun so far doing the background stuff on the setting and characters.

I sometimes write little greentexts for /sveg/ and used to do so for /sug/ before I burnt out on the show. People seem to like the way I write dialogue and character interaction, so I'm trying to steer myself in a direction that focuses on that strength. The comic will ideally focus on short 12-24 page vignettes rather than long arcs/chapters, since pacing is a difficulty of mine and those are easier to plan out.

Look on the bright side, anon. As a niche comic, you have genuine followers that really enjoy your content.

The more popular you become the more toxic your fanbase generally is. They demand and criticize your shit. You're under so much scrutiny. The only upside I see for getting popular is a chance of earning cash from merchandise sales and ad revenue, (adblock, so scratch that) Even then, your fans would call you a sellout and your artistic integrity would be trashed.

I really want to publish my comics but under a complete anonymous pseudonym but that's impossible so I'll forever make comics and never publish them.

does using a mirror image of my drawing work for Ladara licking her lips in the bottom two panels? Or does it just look lazy? if it works i will leave it alone.

in the next page after this one, among all of the firefighters ladara is loosing her shit over there is one fire fighter goth boy that goes to her school thats only there for father son day, and his dad makes him go to the fire truck and change so ladara sneaks a peak breathing hard on the window she is spying through drawing hearts and shit and the goth boy notices her and covers himself up embarrassed, it was a very awkward situation and she may of lost the battle for the boys returned attention and fascination but she is not ready to lose the war of her one true gothic love
