If I remember what I've been told right Astro City avoided the super edge Image was kind of famous for in its early years doesn't it? I remember hearing it described as a love letter to older comics stories. Certainly feels like it so far.

Oh, I love Astro City! I remember when I did a complete storytime of it about a year and a half back. Busiek is definitely one of the most consistent writers in the business.

Or that one issue about a guy remembering a girl who doesn't exist. Only later its revealed that she was his wife and doesn't exist because a supervillain broke time and the superheroes tried their best to fix it by rebooting it. So in the new timeline her parents never met but the guy still remembers her. It's even stated that he isn't the only one who lost someone special due to the unknown reboot.

I genuinely fucking cried over that.

To be fair, that was HIS fault, but yes, probably one of the saddest cape stories of all time.

I don't mean literally Kingdom Come, I mean in the sense that they both went against the trend of extreme 90's antiheroes, but while KC was very aggressive in its posture, Astro City just... is, it doesn't attack 90's stuff, it just shows you why Busiek prefers classic heroes.

Wait, were Hellshock and Astro City really in the second wave? I think they were out in 1994 and 1995 respectively. The stuff from 1993 (that weren't owned by Image founders) was Pitt, Maxx, 1963, Phantom Force, Shaman's Tears, Trencher, Stupid, Tribe, and Wildstar.

There was controversy back in 1993 because Image took the books not by the founders off the table over delays:

Bless you murder, Astro City is my favorite book of all time. Hard times when Busiek was sick and his output slowed to a trickle, but I'm glad it's been monthly again for the past few years. Still great.

Well since that part of /co/ doesn't care enough about Astro City to raise a fit since it does not a movie or tv show yet, I highly doubt that anyone got that triggered by it. I did see a thread when it first came out but few cared since these were unknown characters.

I love the single issue between the low ranking reporter (I think), and her boss. It was a nice change of pace, though I guess the entire series is that. It also had an excellent ending, with the entire office being melted by an alien because the boss was telling lies about them
