Depends on whether or not they still have the digital files to the show - could be that they only have episodes in 480p quality. WB either lost or junked the files to The Iron Giant, so it wouldn't be surprising if all they have of Jack and other shows are the SD broadcast masters.

Hopefully Genndy Tartakovsky made sure to archive it somehow... even if it's only at 480p, I'd take a progressive blu-ray over interlaced DVD any day. My Australian PAL copy of ReBoot Season 4 is surprisingly progressive and looks so much smoother than the NTSC releases.

I don't get this whole 'Jack kills' business.
For one, he already did so on the cartoon, with like the lava monster or the assassins. Or that one guy who tried to poison him.
Second, death is heavily implied through more then just robots with oil blood.
Things like skeletons, or robots having fear, a bar-fight where only the people who die are suddenly robots despite looking like people before, and other subtle clues.

All this new change does is allow for blood, and slightly more visceral violence on screen against living enemies. I very much doubt that the show will lose anything over it. Subtlety will still be there.
