Taserface in the original GotG comics was an alien scout from The Stark species, a matriarchial society of purple skinned warrior aliens from the 31st century (The original GotG took place in an alternate timeline from the 616 earth and in the future) The Stark is named after Tony Stark since somewhere in the past after Iron Man vol. 1 #280 they find a piece of Tony's armor in space and they decide to base their whole society around it.

Guardians 3000 made them into a race of sentient Robot collective based on Tony's tech I think.

Plot details released so far. It paints a rather clear picture of how things go down.

>Movie begins two months after "Guardians of the Galaxy".

>The Guardians have become famous across the galaxy for defeating Ronan and are offering their services as heroes-for-hire, but still struggle to work as a team. Quill is harboring feelings for Gamora and Rocket is struggling to train Baby Groot.

>The Kree have put a bounty on their heads for killing Ronan. Taserface seizes control of the Ravagers from Yondu and sets out to capture the Guardians.

>The Guardians are hired by Ayesha, the high priestess of the Sovereign People, a race of genetically engineered aliens recovering from a recent conflict, to go on a mission.

>They become separated: Quill, Gamora and Drax end up on Ego, where they meet Mantis and find out Ego is Quill's father, while Rocket and Baby Groot are captured by the Ravagers and locked up alongside Yondu and Nebula, who is also wanted for betraying Ronan.

>Ego is an ancient cosmic being who inhabits the planet's core and can also manifest a physical human form, which he used to seduce Quill's mother while exploring the cosmos.
