Despite what artfags may claim, talent does exist, and some people simply don't have it.
>>
>>89523306
Couldn't agree more anon.

Cancelled my schoolism membership, sold my tablet, and threw away all of my sketchbooks.

Such a waste of time. And for what? It's completely unnecessary and serves no purpose.
Art is not needed, especially in today's society where the intellect, personality, and face reigns supreme.

To be honest, the "artistic lifestyle" seems almost like a childish endeavour at this point, and I don't mean any disrespect, but it seems like the most serious artists (asides from guys who are legit conceptartists/illustrators/porn artists but they represent a very low % of dedicated lifters) are also the people with nothing else going on in their lives.
I know this was true with me, I was biggest and most serious about drawing when I was still in uni, working only 15 hours a week, and pretty much just plucking around all the time, going out, with no real life.
To all you kids out there who are getting sucked into the comerical art , try to stop yourself.
So long as you have and maintain decent facial aesthetics, you'll be fine.
Art just not worth it.

Cheers.

talent is more of the speed you learn as opposed to a limit on what you can do. Proper training and knowing how to learn matters just as much as an innate talent, although having a predisposition does help quite a bit
>>
>>89523306
Talent nothing. If you can't draw hands after practicing for hours then you're a fucking moron.
>>
>>89523306
technically talet is how fast you learn.
some other factors exists though, like eye/hand coordination. If your hand is fucked up, chances are holding a pencil for precise work will also be hard. It's physical as much and intellectual.
>>
>>89523444
I remain convinced nonetheless that diligence is a talent all of its own.
>>
>>89523306
i would disagree with you but then i remember those deviantart guys who post 5 year progress and are still the worst shit i've seen
maybe talent exists but its not rare
>>
>>89523479
Diligence is something that can only be instilled in early childhood, once your psyche is matured, it's very difficult to change a core trait like that. Small things like having chores and responsibilities, as well as being taught the value of labor are the most important factors regarding discipline without spinelessness, although like before, you can be predisposed genetically to such behavior

Try to understand the underlying forms and draw them without bullshitting the fine aspects like the placement and length of the finger digits. Ref from real life, not only your own hands, but also from the opposite sex, younger people, older people, you catch the drift. That's where the fun lies - you see all the individual differences that have still the same core make-up (unless the hand is damaged due to medical reasons)
>>
Forget hands. Trying to learn how to draw in general is hard ;_;. Bitching aside I respect all of you who worked through the pain
>>
>>89525453
Forgot - Referencing and basically BURNING the image into your mind is what helps your mental library to grow. I don't find it right now, but there was a tutorial from dA where the artist was like
- draw a cheetah from memory
- then just look at this picture of a cheetah for a minute, noticing and committing the details to memory
- now draw that cheetah
as an example on how to train your memory. Hope this helps. Also, perspective in how to turn boxes. Drawabox.com has some easy exercises for that.

In my defense, my palms are big but my fingers are skinny when compared to them.
>>
>>89525741
That's why you're doing good to look at other hands to study them. If all people you draw have the same fat palms+ skinny finger combo it just cheapens your art.

Pictures (as well as videos) give you the disadvantage that you're basically copying a flat image, instead of trying to figure out how to translate a real, three-dimensional hand into a two-dimensional drawing. People who have good relations with their family/friends/friends family have a big advantage here. I'm an amateur as well, but this is the advice I've gotten.

As long as you post in /beg/ they won't shit down your throat too hard.

Just makes sure you're already at some level of competency before you post. Can't help if there's no foundation.

>>89526748
The first time I drew a deer in my whole life, when I was 6, my teacher asked if I had based it on some picture in the classroom and she didn't believe me at first when I denied it because it was just that good (I didn't even know it was going so well until she showed it to rest of the class who had only done scribbles or given up). Also I figured out the traditional animation method by myself, something John K. claims only the naturally gifted do. Some people ARE naturally gifted.

Though it matters jackshit if you don't practice, my ability impresses only the common folk now because they don't know better, they don't realize that someone that "has been drawing all his life" should be much better at this point.

>Though it matters jackshit if you don't practice

This is so true.
I can still draw stuff, but I lost all of my love for making art around 2012 and stopped practicing.

Now I feel like I can't even draw, despite the fact that I still have the ability to draw. There are some things I know I can do (like drawing faces and trees and plants/flowers) without thinking much about it or using references. Everything else I just can't really do properly unless I try to put some effort into it, but I lost all my passion. So unless someone specifically wants me to draw something for them, (or I'm in a situation where the only thing I have to do is art) then I don't put effort into anything and feel like I can't draw.
