Morrison went on record that this was deliberate.

Oldest school Supes wasn't quite Stardust but he WAS Golden Age, where both he and Batman didn't mind meting out justice directly instead of just tying crooks to streetlamps.

I'm willing to argue that all Lois did was propose and idea to Flashman. Utlimately it was up on him to have critically evaluate thed consequences of such an actions and unfortunately he failed in that regard.

I agree, I think Lois proposed the idea, thinking that Flashman would actually stop to think about it and realize how there would be a problem trying to make money off of superheroes and supervillains. That's why she was surprised when she saw Flashman went ahead with selling supervillain merchandise.

Also I think Funky Flashman still showed up after that so Cold didn't kill him. Or at least, it was left open by Casey in case someone else wanted to use the character.

Is anyone noticing what a passive presence Superman is in all this? He's basically an observer to the main plot with some minimal interference here and there. I'm not saying he should be going around punching shit left and right, but his lack of agency is kinda jarring to me. Especially in contrast to the older Supes from the first issue.
