No problem.
Unrelated to the current thread, I have just found out that John Hurt has just died. I'm particularly broken up because I just started listening to The War Doctor's Big Finish series and now I'm painfully aware that I won't be seeing any more appearances beyond what he's already recorded.
Thanks OP.
Also Jakita a qt

Darkseid?

Such a cool concept for a power and it went nowhere.

Yeah, it really sucks. The Bonus Situation in the Sky.
Does anybody else find the resolution to be incredibly underwhelming? I, at least, expected Snow to be Dowling in the end, but nope.
>>89461546
Yeah, I'm feeling it too. John Hurt made a good Doctor, a great actor, and a wonderful person.
Thanks anon. I've got the trade, but it was a fun and different way to read reloading every 2 minutes.

I think a lot of people actually did. By that point Ellis just needed to get in finished and be done with it. The series started in, what, 1999? And it finally ended in 2009. 27 issues in 10 years.
I hope everyone has enjoyed this wild ride. Give me 10-15 minutes and I'll start the next thread, Automatic Kafka.

I just found this pic so I thought to include it.

Oh, since you listen to the audios, which ones are your favorites? And favorite Who stories overall?

Currently I'm working my way through the 8th Doctor's catalog. I haven't made it too far, but I did listen to his first official story "Storm Warning" as well as the follow up "The Sword of Orion". While both stories may not be considered the strongest, I found these to be wonderful introductions to Big Finish setup. On the topic of good stories, I've heard fantastic things about Jubille, The CHimes of Midnight, and the Dark Eyes series of box sets. Currently I'm working my way through the War Doctor's catalog in honor of Hurt's passing and I'll see if I can't include links to those as well as the comics.
Concerning the NuWho Show, here are my jaded and terrible rankings of the seasons.

Here are my personal rankings of the Doctors. These are in no way shape or form indicators of the stories associated with the Doctors, just my opinion.

I kinda see it as The Four were just a subplot to a story that was mainly about archeologists o the strange.
>>89463359
yes, this is correct. I think alot of people miss that.
>>89462160
You know, I didn't see it until just now, but... did Ellis write out his big bads by way of a Road Runner cartoon?
>>89462780
I think it works fine. You have to consider that the series is more or less from the perspective of Elijah and the preceding issues are all about him realizing that his conflict with the Four is ultimately a distraction. That being said, the "one-shots linked to an overarching story" format worked to the detriment of series at times and some issues, like The Gun Club, are a handful of pages of plot decompressed to hell and back.
>>89463359
That doesn't change the way they were build up. It feels like Ellis was just bored with the whole thing at the end. They made it a point that Ambrose had to hold Suskind or she'd kill them all. In the end she just stood there going "Huh?". Same with Dowling, who apparently had no contingencies and didn't even use his power once.
>>89463466
It does fit in with his "analysis of 20th century pop culture" the comics has going.
And personally, I didn't mind how they were defeated. A bit anti-climactic, but it's cathartic how a smug cunt like Randall Dowling was so full of himself that he couldn't conceive of Elijah doing that.
>>89463616
It kinda doesn't. F4 weren't defeated by cartoons, but by movie rights and loss of public interest. Though Ellis probably wouldn't be able to tell that in 2011.
>>89461715
So, Boom tube? Why did I not think of that sooner?
>>89463697
>loss of public interest
A fall in popularity, if you will.
>>89463861
>>89462375
Before the final comic? Somewhat, yes. But given Drums' hint at the end of #23, and the final comic? Shit's fucking perfect. One of the best comics I've ever read.
Automatic Kafka is here.
>>89464240
Dammit.
>>89464231
>>89463697
It could be read as a kind of message about the nature of comics in general - no matter how sophisticated the story, there's always going to be that element of comedic unrealism.
>>89461926
Yeah I really am pissed how Planetary botched the 4.
They are nebulous threats that barely do anything then get anticlimactically defated in rushed climaxes
>>89465470
The mind stretching thing wasn't even a new concept for Mr. Fantastic, really. This is just one of the times it's been suggested. Still, the Four were never the point of the comic in the first place. I dunno if issue #21 is some kind of super-meta commentary by Ellis about figuring that out for himself, but the point of Planetary is Elijah Snow saving Ambrose Chase. Not even ushering humanity and the entire goddamn multiverse into some kind of superfuturistic utopia in the process; it's about some grumpy, selfish old fuck saving his bro so he and his friends can go back to checking out weird shit.
