The worst part about Volume 4 is that one could say Volume 2 of all things have progressed the plot futher.

Yang's is filler. Weiss' is filler. Blake's is filler. Sure you get more "development" but I highly doubt I'll look back on their parts and be thinking "this was really important to the plot"

If the volume ends with them defeating the Nuck, Ruby's will pretty much have regressed because now Qrow is dying or something.

I think it was less about calming people, and more about stopping emotions from being broadcast. Ren and Nora were still scared, but were able to hold it in and act, without alerting the Grimm in the process.

Let's list some Semblances and how useful they are against humans and Grimm.

Ruby: Great mobility. Useful against both humans and Grimm
Weiss: Basically 10 Semblances put together. Extreme versatility against both humans and Grimm.
Blake: Great for distractions and defense. Useful against humans and Grimm
Yang: Simple, but effective. Useful against both humans and Grimm.

Jaune: Unknown, but likely defense related that works against both human and Grimm attacks.
Nora: Similar to Yang's.
Pyrrha: Extremely useful against any human who has armor or weapons made of metal. Has pretty good uses against Grimm too.

And then Ren: He can hide his negative emotions from himself and others, meaning the Grimm can't sense them. But they can still see or hear them. Extremely situational. Useless against humans.

Ren is the only "main" character with a Semblance that does not work against humans. I think he drew the short straw.

You know all this talk reminds me of why the fuck was Raven meant to fight JNPR especially if now we know she actually doesn't have any connection to Ren.

I mean, what have Qrow and Raven been compared to? The two birds that are by Odin's side. And as we all know Odin is Thor's father.

So what if Nora was actually part of the bandit tribe or at least her father was? He may even have been the leader before Raven had stepped in?

Think about this:
