It is indeed.

It's pretty cool to look back and realize how much Kanan has grown as a Jedi.

I'd say as of this latest episode he's easily the equal of any Republic-Era Knight. Sure he's no master, but he would have fit right in with the rank and file.

He may actually be better than some/most of them, considering he's crossed sabers with some pretty powerful opponents whereas the average Clone Wars knight probably never did much more than deflect blasters or friendly sparring.

When he's watching Ezra take Sabine through the practice forms, he seems proud and almost surprised at himself for managing to teach somebody.

Also I've noticed on my latest rewatch of TCW that part of the conflicting messages Anakin gets actually come from the clones. They tend to all praise him and admire his more reckless style, and Ahsoka gives up on discouraging it 2 seasons in and reinforces the praise.

That's partially due to circumstances beyond the Dev team's control, such as going back 5000 years merely to find a time where they were free to tell their own story. Deciding, however, to mimic the OT ANH aesthetic when their story is in actuality a lot closer to the old Dark Horse Tales series was a conscious decision that didn't really pan out.

Can someone explain to me exactly what Sabine was on about when she was making her big speech to Kanan about her past?

She was working for the Empire, building bombs that were later used on her people? I thought she joined the Empire because it was allied with Mandalore? How is the Empire buddies with Mandalore and bombing them at the same time?

Then she said her family turned against her (AFTER?) she left the Empire because she was sick of them bombing her people? You would think if the Mandolorians were getting bombed by the Empire they would be glad Sabine wasn't helping the Empire anymore.

Was anyone else a little confused by her exposition there? I personally would like to see a flashback episode to fill in the blanks instead of just hearing it from an unreliable narrator in between swings of her lightsaber.

I'll buy it. And since most of the previously-legends ship specs that have been recanonized stayed mostly the same, this will probably hold too.

It seems like something the Mon-cal and rebels would do anyway, sacrificing weaponry for shields, since they prefer to do hit-and-runs with fighters from a home base/ship instead of engaging with capital ships.

It's my headcanon for now, at least. Profundity's shields were still at 50% even after a lot of shit had happened.

What would /swco/ recommend me as a first star wars comic or comic series?
Also in general is it better to go with canon or legends first? Or it doesn't matter?

It's Legends now but I really enjoyed Darth Maul - Death Sentence

alternatively you could pick up any of the nu-canon ongoing ones, or read Kanan. Lando is also good in its own way.

We've all read and (mostly) enjoyed Darth Vader too, even if the art is less than great.

Canon because there are a lot less of them and they are mostly more orderly. The best Legends comics are the adaptations of novels, e.g. Rogue Squadron and Thrawn Trilogy.
Of the canon stuff you should really pay attention to the ongoing Marvel's Star Wars.
Darth Vader has shit art but good story, and ties into the new Doctor Aphra series
Poe Dameron is background to sequel trilogy
Kanan series and Obiwan and Anakin are good prequel era one offs
Then there are four character based OT era comic oneoffs set right after ANH that are quite decent: Princess Leia, Lando, Chewbacca, and Han Solo

We're in the middle of multiple Star Wars films addition of the new trilogy, it's unlikely we'll stop right now IMO. Remember the rebels are fighting all throughout the original trilogy and we've already done stuff with Kanan and Ezra alone that we didn't think could be done at this point in time.
