>>
>>88961952
The Jedi believe the prophecy of bringing balance to the force means purging it of the cancer of darkness by destroying the Sith

Their beliefs say the Light is the true form of the Force, and the darkness is an artificial corruption of that perfect, balanced state.

They do not accept the light and dark, yin-yang style

>>
>>88962003
that is literally the correct way to look at it.
Lucas said so himself.
There's not balance of light and dark for practicioners. You're either light or dark.
The Sith dying brings balance back to the Force because because the Sith were fucking with it.
>>
>>88961955
Didn't Maul pretty much tell Erza the code in a not-word-for-word fashion?
>>
>>88962108
Yes but until it isn't recited as a whole, it'll remain non-canon.
>>
>>88961952
>what was the sons end game, what did he need anakin for

Sith also knew about prophecy of the Chosen One. During meditation Son had visions of the old Sith lords they said him that the one who controls Chosen One controls force.

>The Son and the story of the Mortis trilogy were created by George Lucas, the original creator of Star Wars.[8] Originally, the specters of the Sith Lords Darth Bane and Darth Revan, two Sith Lords from the Legends brand, were supposed to be behind the Son's influence and complete fall to the dark side. However, this was ultimately cut from the Mortis arc, as both Lucas and The Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni believed that the Sith Lords existing beyond death or outside of the Force contradicted the established aspects and meaning of the Force in Star Wars canon.[9]

So if size is no thing to the force, does that mean a Jedi could potentially move a planet or moon around?
>>
>>88962624
how is there any kind of a battle if there was force users around if size is no object?
>>
>>88962624
No
>>
>>88962624
No. It's not that size is completely unimportant, it's just that the Force lets you move things that you would physically be unable to move. The reason Luke couldn't lift the X-Wing was because he was still focused on the idea of it being impossible, hence he was dooming himself to failure by already accepting it as impossible. Yoda's advice wasn't literally "the Force lets you move anything of any size" it was "stop worrying about how big the X-Wing is."
>>
>>88962574
Why do you guys keep using mega?

After the the bandwidth and max file size download reduction I can only download 500 mb(aka not even one episode).

Thats pretty bullshit and enough reason to stop using it imo.
>>
>>88962692
So if I don't believe it's impossible to move a planet then I could do it?
>>
>>88962717
Just because its a problem for you doesn't mean everyone else has to suffer.
>>
>>88962727
No, you're still seeing it too literally. Moving the X-Wing was always possible, which was why Yoda wanted Luke to do it.
>>
>>88962750
Literally everyone else is suffering because of the reasons I posted.
>>
>>88962727
Even you would still in some small corner of your mind, consider a planet too big to move. It's just such an ingrained, basic concept.

To be so free that you could consider a planet and everything on it no different to a single grain of sand, you would have to be some transcendent bodhisattva of the force
>>
>>88962761
I see. Thanks dude.

>>88962727
This >>88962786
In theory it's possible, but you would have to be something close to a god to do it

>After the the bandwidth and max file size download reduction I can only download 500 mb(aka not even one episode).

I hope the egg is dead. I'd like it if the Empire actually succeeded at a total genocide of a species instead of it getting an out and rendering all that effort pointless. One thing Rebels in particular has spectacularly failed to accomplish is show why it is entire systems were afraid to rise up against the Empire and why the Rebel Alliance only had scattered sympathizers throughout their time. Where's the actual fear? Where's the knowledge that to defy the Empire is to write a holocaust check your ass might not be able to afford to cash? I would truly love it if "Are you crazy? Remember what happened to Geonosis?" became a boogeyman lesson told across the scope of the Empire, where the systematic and deliberate obliteration of an entire species and the scouring of their world serves as a warning, and as a motive for all but the most reckless, disgruntled, nothing-left-to-lose, or Jedi-imposed altruistic do-gooders to keep their heads down and just accept the new order could be so much worse but isn't as a reward for loyalty and obedience. Instead, they pussyfoot around giving reasons to actually fear the Empire, like the "oh they evacuated Tarkintown" or "the Lasat didn't all get wiped out and they have a new homeworld and "hey, they left a Geonosian alive with a queen egg" half-assedness. SHOW us the money. SHOW us the ruthlessness. SHOW us the scope of the depths of what the Empire is actually capable and willing to do, even before the Death Star, to justify why the Rebels were on the back foot for years due to lack of support. That all these events get the easy outs just makes the Empire into buffoonery instead of a terrifying monolithic presence that would inspire the acceptance of its oppressive policies without mass rioting on every world.

Alderaan was taken to an extreme even the most passive soul was bound to take notice of, and the rapid destruction of the Death Star following it made any fear effect it had fizzle and become stillborn. Had the Rebellion failed to destroy the Death Star at Yavin, that effect wouldn't have occurred, because every world would exist under the threat of "we could be next". Again, half-assedness that doesn't explain why the Rebellion didn't get a huge backing all the years before the Death Star, not without something to keep passives being passive. If all the Empire did before Alderaan was fail, as is what keeps happening, why is anyone actually afraid to rise up and fight? They have no reason not to, without a signal guarantee that to do so invites the possibility of unleashing horror in their cities and streets and skies.

Alderaan was so heavy-handed it literally pushed entire systems into changing their mindset from "if we do this, this might happen" to "if we don't do this, this might happen", which is throwing fresh kindling into any insurrection's fire. Couple the destruction of Alderaan with the dissolution of the Senate and any chance of legitimate representation within the Imperial apparatus and it was practically a given worlds would throw support behind the Rebellion out of desperation. But there's been no reason they wouldn't do that prior to Alderaanm, given years of a subservient and powerless Senate, and I want there to be.

But I think for fans it would be neat to know that at least that idea was considered, we went very far with it, that in the end after discussions it was really George that said "No, I thought this would be good, I wanted to do this - but it doesn't jive with my bigger explanation of the Force.

I am so fucking sick of the "Rey = Mary Sue" shit. It's basically become shorthand for people complaining about her character but not being smart enough to come up with actual criticisms so they parrot everybody else.

At the risk of derailing the thread, I am 100% confident that Rey wouldn't get half of the shit she does from the Internet if her character were male.
>>
Sabine is such a badly written character, made worse by a terrible voice actress.

Calling it now, her episodes will once again be the most boring of the season.
>>
>>88966136
Yeah, at the risk of derailing the thread, you SHOULD shut the fuck up.

There is a reason we love well-developed characters like Ahsoka, but call Rey a Mary Sue, so it sure as shit isn't because everybody who disagrees with you is sexist.

Maybe just maybe, it's because Rey is in fact, a Mary Sue.
>>
>>88966220
She was ok in todays two episodes.

No character development or anything, but she wasn't annoying, and she was pleasant to watch, served her purpose well.

Her only real problem is lack of interesting development.

I'm okay with most of Rey's power level. If she turns out to be a Skywalker then she should be very strong with the force, pilot well, etc. The one thing that steps over the line for me was when she mind tricks the stormtrooper, which felt less like a Mary Sue moment and more like they wanted Rey to escape on her own but couldn't think how so they just went "HEY REMEMBER JEDI MIND TRICKS?"

What annoys me is how the dialogue is always written to put into the spotlight how competent she is. When Finn grabs her and runs and she tells him to stop grabbing her hand and runs faster than him; when Finn nearly gets rekt and then asks Rey if she's okay and Rey gives the "what, me?" face; when Han asks where the pilot is on the Falcon and acts incredulous when Rey says she's the pilot... the list goes on. And yeah, this is a gender thing, because all of those instances are implicitly Rey defying expectations of her as a woman. The result is both a kind of preachy feminist tone whenever Rey is on screen and a constant reminder of her inexplicable competence. Luke and Anakin may be Mary Skywalkers, but their movies never went so out of the way to point out how strong they were.
>>
>>88966327

>>
>>88965136
It's best to look at Sabine from the Mandalorian perspective. Even as atypical as she is in many respects, such as her art, she's still very keen on their warrior aspects. Her friends are her friends, but they aren't Mandalorian. They're still outsiders. She was raised by a very closed society. This includes her withdrawing from others, tending not to show weakness, and generally having a difficulty with change. True warriors shape their own destinies, they aren't shaped by them, etc.

That isn't to say she isn't immune to showing uncertainty or expressing her feelings but she resists it. And honestly being a teenage girl hasn't helped.

It isn't like this is restricted to Mandalorians. Zeb is often the same way - he's their big warrior guy, after all. But he's able to laugh at himself and will let people in, especially when he's uncertain. She typically doesn't. Zeb likes remaining largely uncomplicated, she's can be fairly complicated (especially in an annoying teen girl, "You're not my mom, Hera!" way).

Like Ezra some of this has changed as they've grown older. It's development not really seen on screen, which some people hate, but then aging is biological development rather than strict character development.

And then some people just WANT to hate her. Like this rocket trooper debate. Sure rocket troopers are neat and vastly underutilized but they're still Stormtroopers for fucks sake. Why do people expect them to be so much harder to kill? Sabine just surprised them by meeting them on their own terms, but she only achieved a double kill with her blasters (a common move from her) and and took two others with explosives (her signature move). Big whoop.

This isn't to say Sabine has been a completely satisfying character or that I'm personally satisfied with her. They said they were going to make her a larger part of the show in season 2 but it didn't really feel like they achieved much with her. Even Zeb's Lira San excursion felt more satisfying.

>y-you don't know what you're talking about.

How about YOU answer to ME why Jyn and Ahsoka have been accepted with open arms then?

If everybody is just sexist, why is it that of the three major female protagonists, only Rey is criticized as being a Mary Sue?

Here, I will answer for you.

Unlike Jyn and Ahsoka, Rey is;

>The most skilled and valuable character in the cast from the very second you meet her
>She's the mechanic
>And the Pilot
>And the Force-sensative
>And the Mechanic
>And the best shot
>And the best when it comes to melee
>Everybody falls in love with her the moment they meet her. Nobody hates her, not even fucking Kylo.

Let's see, what other bullshit;
>Learned to aimbot headshot stormies after missing once
>Figured she could use the force on a hunch, and proceeded to mind trick a Stormtrooper on her second try
(it took Ezra a year of training with a teacher, and Luke much longer without a teacher)
>Survived alone for years in a wartorn shithole, and is somehow compassionate enough to not sell a droid for food because... It made cute beeps?
>Defeated a force sensitive, trained by Luke Skywalker
("b-but he was injured!", Kylo had very little difficulty defeating a trained Stormtrooper, but a teenage girl overpowered him?)

Face the fucking music. The most criminal thing about Rey is she's fucking BORING. Nobody wants to watch a movie where the hero is literally perfect, does everything flawlessly, all the characters love her, she has not a single negative trait, and never loses a fight.

>>88966405

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Kyber_crystal
>Kyber crystals were inherently attuned to the light side of the Force, and would attempt to resist any effort by dark side practitioners to utilize them in lightsabers. To this end, the only way a Sith, or other darksider could make use of a kyber crystal was to use the Force to dominate the crystal, bending it to their will. This process would cause the crystal to "bleed", as if it were a living organism, resulting in the distinctive crimson-bladed lightsabers synonymous with the Sith. However it was also possible to "heal" a kyber crystal corrupted in this way. The only known instance of purifying a corrupted kyber crystal was when Ahsoka Tano purified the two crystals she retrieved from the Sixth Brother's lightsaber following his defeat. In this case, the crystals turned white.[3]

Oh fuck right off can we just kill this Super Mary Sue
>>
>>88966547
Not "used for evil" that does that, it's reaching out to them with the Force and deliberately corrupting them. You only have to do that if you're a dark side prat building a lightsaber, regular non-corrupt crystals don't want anything to do with your edgy fuckery until you pump some Linkin Park into them via the Force.

Ahsoka's white kybers were after she reached out to the crystals in an Inquisitors saber and caused his blade to malfunction. The crystals are very finely tuned in the Force. Her actions resulted in them retuning to white but that was more incidental than intentional.
>>
>>88966482
>When Finn grabs her and runs and she tells him to stop grabbing her hand

I think that was a nod to Leia, but overall you are right
>>
>>88966136

There's a Mary Sue test that's been around for years that covers fanfics, sequels, original stories, and a bunch of other shit, and it's gender neutral to the point of using crazy third gender pronouns just to be absolutely impartial.

Nobody who's EVER run Rey through it has ever come back with under triple digits. This is even being completely charitable and assuming that nobody on set had anything but the best motivations possible. It's just not possible because of the sheer VOLUME of insane bullshit Rey pulls that goes many times past what anyone does in either trilogy OR Rogue One OR Rebels.
>>
>>88966632
>Finn is a much better shot than she is
When is this EVER shown? It wasn't, don't try to tell me Finn is shown as a better aim at any point in the movie.

>She's been rolling with a melee weapon all her life. Of course she'd be good at it.
I never said she shouldn't be good at it. I'm just saying it's yet another thing on the long list of things that she is somehow the best at. Reminder that Stormtroopers also get extensive melee training with various weapons too, and yet Finn is consistently incompetent next to Rey no matter whatever weapon he is holding.
>>
>>88966567
Aside from the Force, all of those skills are things that make sense given her background. She raised herself as a scavenger, taught herself how to fly and fix things, and used a weapon to defend herself. The only ones that are iffy are the Force and the blaster, but everything else makes sense and doesn't come from nowhere.
>>

That's fine, but she knows more about this shit than Han. Even regarding the Falcon.

Why does she have to be the best at everything? That's not what people want in a character. Just because Han is impressed, doesn't mean it's the thumbs up for the audience to be.

That's literally cheating. "Oh, Han loves her, she gets an A-OK for me, welcome to Star Wars Rey!"

That's bullshit. There were two tests people were pushing for a time, both of them vague as shit. Because of that you could easily push her score high, but she could be given a normal enough score. It's incredibly easy to push a bias in those tests. Considering we have people who still swear she was never saved in the movie (she was saved multiple times) and she flew perfectly the first time (it wasn't perfect and she even said in the film she's flown before multiple times) this isn't a huge surprise.

The bigger problem was the huge unknowns in her character. When you don't know her backstory or who she really is, it's far harder to answer a lot of questions about her with certainty. Is she the kid of someone special? Did she have any training in the past or otherwise grew up around people being trained in the force? Who knows. Well, Luke apparently knows who she is based on the script but that asshole didn't tell us a damn thing.

What bugs me the most about her connection to Han is that it's completely flimsy. They never actually bond, but at the same time they want to portray his death as being something that has a huge emotional impact on her. We even have a scene where Kylo reads her mind and tells us she feels Han is the father she never had.

You could dismiss this as just a sign of Rey being so desperate for a parental figure that she latches on to the first guy that comes along, even though he barely interacts with her, but even that gives the script too much credit.
>>
>>88966837

Not quite sure what you are asking. You don't have to corrupt them and you don't really have to purify them either, unless you're trying to build a saber. Kybers are naturally light sided and don't like being used by a Dark Sider to build a saber. You know, the whole meditation and floating the saber components and building them with your mind? The light side kyber's juju fucks you up, so you corrupt them first.

We don't know if a Light Sider has similar problems trying to use red crystals to build a saber, but probably. The Dark Side "song" of the crystal will fuck you up.

>This makes sense
Yes, it does. I want to make it clear that the stuff I listed aren't necessarily bad traits for her to have. The problem is when things get taken too far, or Rey overshadows other characters. So yes, it absolutely makes sense for Rey to have mechanical skills. But does it make sense for her to be telling Han how to fix the Falcon when he doesn't even know? That's rediculous in my opinion. I would have even accepted her helping Han figure it out, but it was literally "Han hasn't got a clue, Rey instantly knows the answer."

>Poe is demonstrably a better pilot.
Ok, you are technically correct here, but in my defense I forgot about Poe because he wasn't even supposed to be a main character.

>Han Solo literally shoots a guy without looking.
True, that's fair enough.

>somewhat debateable
She was also a better swordsman (swordslady?) than Finn, and you could defend that I suppose, with the foreshadowing earlier in the movie showing she had learned to defend herself with a Staff (although two very different melee weapons, but whatever)

I still think it's simply poor storytelling to be able to fight so well against Kylo in the FIRST movie.People often defend it by saying he was injured, but;

A) He overpowered Finn without much struggle, why would Rey be much more of a challenge?

and

B) Who cares, it's poor storytelling, why would you make your main villain look like such a chump in the first movie of a trilogy? They're going to have to put a ton of effort into making Kylo not a laughing stock now.

It was in the Clovis arc. Anakin was being butthurt about Clovis coming back into Padme's life and Obi-Wan half-counseled half-threatened him about it.

>Which she is, she's just never left the planet.

No she's not. Luke is established as having been a Bush Pilot and you can see his plane in ANH. Han brags about all the flying he's done every chance he's got. Rey has no such practice craft and she has no experience dodging the empire. The most you can say is she flew a junker around a couple of times.
>>
>>88967016
No, it's in the Clovis arc.
>>
>>88967055

I think the lowest I remember was still mid 90's. May be a different thread but I'm running her through right now.

But when 50 is the cut off but you're routinely doing almost double that you know you fucked up.
>>
>>88967019
No, just handling someone's lightsaber doesn't change the color. You have to actively work with the crystal for that to happen.
>>
>>88967038
Yeah, that was a huge "fuck you" to the audience because she's not only routinely overshadowed most of the supporting cast, but she's now also overshadowed literally every main character in the franchise.

How in the fuck was that mind trick supposed to have worked?

Literally the only justifiable explanation is the theory that Rey has already been trained, and that she had her mind wiped/memories altered to keep her hidden.

Because if she has literally never been trained, there is no reason she should be as good as she currently is, and that Mind Trick should have been impossible. How did she even know what the FUCK a mind trick was? Where did she get the idea to do that shit?
>>
>>88967019
They don't "turn off". Once built into a saber the kyber has no say.

Have you never seen lightsabers constructed?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-efuF4NFsw

You do so with the Force as your guide and the "song" of the crystal will screw you up if you and it aren't aligned to the same side of the Force.
>>
>>88967044
They seem to come in different shades, like Kenobi's sword was light blue
>>
>>88967121
but then what's the point of spending tons of time corrupting the crystal in the first place if a plain old normal crystal will do all your D4C as good as the red one
>>
>>88967099
One of the prelude books shows her training on a flight simulator, but even that's kind of a stretch.
>>
>>88967121
So, if Anakin retained his lightsaber, would it eventually turn red? Or would it stay blue despite him doing all that dark shit?
>>
>>88967158
It would stay blue unless he tried to corrupt the crystal itself.
>>
>>88967119
Within that thread where the image came from someone got a 47, still high but below the maximum threshold. Later threads that continued this nonsense had people scoring higher, some lower.

With scores varying so wildly depending on the user it's a shit test that relies too much on the bias of the person answering the questions. Completely useless as any kind of metric, hardly suitable as proof of anything.
>>
>>88967148
Yeah, they can be different shades. Ahsoka's two sabers in TCW were different shades.

There's no actual explanation about what the different colors represent in Canon, but I don't think it actually matters.
>>
>>88967182
but why bother doing so?

>>
>>88967182

We're not even sure he could do that when it's plugged into the saber without damaging the saber. Might be possible. Hard to say. When Ahsoka did it she was deliberately using the Force to defend herself from an Inquisitor's weapon and the kybers weren't the only thing she was going for, she just seemed to be using them as a focus point. Even then he could have saved himself if he hadn't fucked up in several ways.

>I still think it's simply poor storytelling to be able to fight so well against Kylo in the FIRST movie.People often defend it by saying he was injured, but;
Like I said, debatable.
We don't really know much of Finn's martial training, it seems like it would be decent enough but we see form the Riot Trooper that he is by no means a highly skilled individual. Kylo beating Finn after we see him getting beaten by a Storm Trooper isn't really much of a surprise. Finn does say several times that he's better with a blaster. We should have seen him use a blaster more. Or at all. Does Finn ever fire an actual in your hand blaster? I honestly don't remember.

In addition we also don't really know much about Rey's martial training. We see her beat up some goons with her staff, and then next she holds her own defensively against someone who is presumably trained by both Luke (who for all we know is a really shitty teacher, but that's not important) and Snoke. It's important to note that Rey doesn't really beat Kylo until the whole plot Force whatever you want to call it happens, and where the Force resides is where reason goes to die.

Rey's flight from the troopers in the forest should have had her miss more shots with her blaster, eventually throwing it away maybe, and relying on her staff. We'd get to see her best a Riot Trooper perhaps, something Finn cannot do, before she's captured by Kylo, maybe even getting her staff cut in half? We solidify her as a more melee oriented attacker, while additional scenes of seeing Finn as a crack shot would make him out to be more on the Han Solo side of heroing.

I very much enjoyed TFA, but I also really enjoy nitpicking, and laughing at what I enjoy.
Maybe that's why I like things like Cinemasins and such.
>>
>>88967151
Because you have to actually have the crystal attuned before it can be used
You can't just grab one from the ground, because it's colorless and doesn't do anything
>>
>>88967185

That can be explained by people considering certain things or forgetting others(I.E. Rey knows Binary and Shyrriwook, so that counts as two separate points). I also gave her four points on question 68 just because the movie has to OOOh and AAAh about Luke and Anakin's old Saber and it suddenly getting powers it never had before.
>>
>>88967207
My guess is, if your opposite alignment, the crystal will resist you, like it wouldn't feel right. As a sith lord, you want all the power you can get, so you corrupt the kyber and now your force energies are in sync. Goes into all the philosophical being one with the blade stuff.

So I ran Rey through the Mary Sue test again. Assuming no bad intentions from anyone at Lucasfilm or Disney, being charitable wherever possible, and only hitting something "twice" if it's really explicitly what happened as described. I'm also only going by the film, nothing elsewhere or what's presumed to happen in the sequels(So she recieved no points for being a Skywalker or a Solo or whatever else, or being trained by one).

I got a 90. That's not triple digit. But it's still almost double the maximum threshold and ALMOST Triple digit. Part of that can be explained by this being a sequel and going through a longer process but the test explicitly describes a bunch of the weakest parts of TFA to a tee(Rey is captured because she's important to the plot, but escapes by developing new powers in a way other characters don't). There's also the fact that none of the mitigating factors involving a character having actual damaging flaws factor in, except in that I presumed J.J. Didn't get super attached to them and took a point off for that.

That 90 is WITH me being more or less as generous as possible. I could take off maybe three or four points I thought were ambiguous but it's still be an unreasonably high number. The only way you're supposed to be past 50 and not be a heinous Mary Sue is if you somehow didn't read the questions properly and fucked up. But I clearly didn't given they describe a bunch of shit that happens almost perfectly.

And that's BEFORE you count all the questions about developing new powers with no training.

I think a lot of it can be chalked up to lazy writing. She is able to understand all alien/droid languages, etc., because it moves the plot along and would weigh things down if we had to have some other explanation.
>>
>>88968044

http://www.springhole.net/writing/marysue.htm

Here's the one everyone else is using. It has a section specifically for sequels and it's more or less tailormade to situations like this.
>>
>>88968111
well we see her having to interact with a bunch of them, you could say it makes sense that she can understand them, she's been living and working with them for ten years or something.
>>
>>88968111
Can't most characters understand alien/droid languages?
>>
>>88967929
I'm not sure how they get such high numbers. Is BB-8 considered an animal companion only she can understand since Finn can't?
>>
>>88968111

No, languages only count for two points. You could chop off maybe a dozen, being VERY generous, due to lazy writing.

The rest is due to deliberate choices. Of all the sabers she gets the Skywalker saber, and instead of it just being like when Luke picked it up and swung it around there needed to be a big five minute sequence about how it was special and chose her and how this is significant. That added double the points of languages alone. It's the same through the whole test.
>>
>>88968136
That test is a piece of shit for this. It's designed for testing your own characters, not testing existing characters in fiction you aren't writing. Because of this the bulk of questions aren't even applicable unless you try to force them. Probably what is throwing off a lot of numbers.
>>
>>88968153

Not Finn.

Which is the point. She can do it but Finn can't. She can fix the ship but Finn can't. She can understand everyone but Finn can't. She can run faster than Finn. She can fight better with the saber despite him being the one who's already used it once and trained to fight. She can do everything he can't and most of the things he can, and most of the things Poe can too.
>>
>>88968244

No, it's explicit that it also includes sequels and it only counts appearance if you describe or illustrate. I didn't click the vast majority of them and tried to be charitable as shit and I still got a 90.
>>
>>88968153
Very few people understand droid languages. As for alien languages, it seems to depend. A lot of people seem to know Huttese because it's such a common language, but then you have stuff like Wookiee where not a lot of people know it.
>>
>>88968136
This test is giving me a lot of nos (which I assume is me skipping over the check) since this is a character in a movie and thus there's no narration to apply to it.
>>
>>88968202
Not sure why people treat that as the sword having some new power instead of it just being the Force drawing her to the sword. This should be obvious considering the sword doesn't show her anything it personally witnessed. Do they really think the sword summoned Obi-Wan's ghost or he just shows up during a Force moment? Even then this destiny doesn't even demand she use but it is her task to bring it to Luke. She even denies it at first and fucks things up.
>>
>>88968291

Note that it ALSO says that you can discount a lot of character stuff if it's due to routine things like licensing or changing actors. But Rey scores high because everyone important from the OT came back or was willing to.

>>88968314

The thing about Rey is a lot of the front doesn't apply so you skip over, but once you get to the middle you start checking large numbers of them in rapid succession.
>>
>>88968176
imo BB8 doesn't count because 1) it's not a special pet since many people have droids, and the test explicitly says that normal pets don't count, and 2) Poe can understand BB8 too

But the lightsaber counts as a Mary Sue-y weapon I think, because it's the legendary lightsaber of Luke/Anakin. I didn't like how TFA turned it into some kind of god tier artifact that many people are obsessed with (Kylo Ren, Maz...)
>>
>>88968336

It's not just that the sword showed her stuff. It's that it never showed everyone else. It's not about destiny. It's about it suddenly becoming more special than it was before.

>>

I got 32% with this one.

Honestly, I don't care if Rey is a Mary Sue, I think what matters to me is if the character is likable, and she was.
>>
>>88962624
Yes, but that doesn't mean you can do it in a practical time scale.

The only scary thing about the force, is that it plays the long game.
>>
>>88968429

The test explicitly includes a lot of caveats for that very reason. But even if you take that it describes a lot of shit almost exactly.
>>
>>88968291
Sequels don't matter. It contains:

Part 1 - All Characters
Questions that pertain to all characters everywhere.

Part 2 - Original Fiction Characters
Questions for original fiction characters only.

Part 3 - Fan Characters & Newcomers
Questions for fan characters (RPG and fiction) and characters you may be planning to add to an original fiction universe you've already established.

Part 4 - RPG Characters
You guessed it - questions for role-playing characters and MMORPG-based characters.

Part 5 - De-Suifiers
Questions that subtract from the final score.

Part 1 fits, Part 2 arguably fits (more your own character than a fanfic of someone else's character). 3 and 4 don't fit. Part 5 may fit depending on how it fits with the other parts.

I answered it trying to be as specific and harsh as possible and I got less than half what you did.

Of course it's special. It's the famous lightsaber we haven't seen on the big screen in nearly 40 years !!!!

Language in star wars seems to follow the logic that if you spend time with the being that uses a different language you eventually learn the language after a fairly short period of time. Compared to irl where it takes years and direct education this seems like a plot device more than anything, but there are times where they make a point to show that a character won't know a language.

I'm gonna say no, most people don't understant those languages in the same way the writers keep telling us that not everyone in the galaxy even think jedi and sith are real, let along the force.
>>
>>88968449
Got to agree. Poe does some crazy shit that should be impossible for anyone who isn't a Jedi or otherwise intensely strong and trained in the Force. His big damn save of Han, Chewie, and Finn was played up more than anything Rey did to help anyone else. He's likable, though, so he gets a pass.

Star Wars isn't an original fiction already established and being added to by the owners?

But Original Fiction is established in the test as worlds you yourself created. You're trying to stretch parts of the test into fitting in ways they weren't intended to fit.

Although he gets sidelined for a bit he was instrumental in the beginning, middle, and end. He brought BB-8 to Jakku and while Finn saved him it was so he could save Finn. He saved all most of the main characters on Takodana, furthered their quest, vouched for Finn so Leia trusted him despite. Then in the end he destroyed the Oscillator on his own. Without him all the earlier efforts, including the planting of explosions that got Han killed, would have been wasted.
>>

I'm going to call bullshit here. Languages is two. Just her getting the ligthsaber is four before anything is even done with it. Being an Orphan taken in by Unkar Plutt then raising herself counts for three. Getting those force powers with no explanation to her strength nets her another three. Being offered a job by Han right out the gate nets her another four. Getting captured and escaping by suddenly knowing mind trick is another four.

This shit adds up FAST.

>He isn't ooh'd or aah'd in the way Rey is so even if his feats are just as BS people don't notice them.
Compare Poe's flying to Rey's supposedly perfect flying. And then there is how they telegraphed his ace flying on Takodana by having Finn directly call attention to it, as if we needed that. Flying through that crack got his pursuers killed, emphasizing his sweet tricks, as if we didn't know already because he just calls everyone else in his squad off because Poe Godamneron has this shit in the bag. Then he spams dozens of torpedoes, scoring direct hits each time, in a way that makes Luke's destruction of the first Death Star seem flaccid.

They'd fight for a bit, realize their hatred are evenly matched, and start challenging each other with the things in their past that drive their rage.
