Would make the most sense. I mean you can't just assign a kid that's gotta be train for years, maybe decades, at random.
Also I think there's was some shit about a Mirialan youngling had to become the Padawan of a Mirialan Jedi (if avaiable at the time) because of the Force related religion on their home plant. Though I dunno if that is canon or legends.

This is utterly stupid. They may as well have flown all the way to Coruscant if they apparently don't even need hyperdrive engines to travel faster than light.

Why is Leia so underrated again? She's a total badass. I feel like she never got the respect she deserved in the Star Wars fandom as a character and soldier and people just think of the gold bikini.

I always enjoyed Star Wars but didn't start coming to these threads until I started watching Rebels and wanted a place to read and participate in conversations about both the show and the rest of the franchise.

I'm here because /tg/ is slow and never posts anything except EU spreadsheets, /v/ doesn't post anything about star wars vidya except complaints about nubattlefront and nostalgiafagging for kotor, and /tv/ threads are invariably derailed and hijacked into something off topic. These threads are at least consistently star wars even if they are consistently terrible. So it's basically like playing Battlefront :^)

It's clear in TCWs why it was done. It was Yoda's idea. And yes, although it raises the dread specter of Suedom, Ahsoka was fairly well skilled in most Jedi techniques. More to the point she had several of his traits, such as impulsiveness and even willfulness.

Basically they gave Anakin a Padawan who was like himself as a Padawan. By having to deal with someone like himself he'd be dealing with himself too, even if it wasn't aware of it. Yoda felt, hoped, the experience would temper Anakin and teach him better patience and self-control. And to an extent it did work. Unfortunately it also worked the other way where she picked up some of Anakin's darker aspects, too.

It was Yoda's idea since he specifically assigned Ahsoka to him. It's also clear during the arc where she is captured by Trandos. Anakin goes full-Anakin wanting to rip the galaxy apart if that is what it takes to find and save her. Instead all he could do is sit back and wait, which wasn't easy for him. When she ends up engineering her own rescue he immediately apologizes to her for not being able to save her. She says that through his teachings he did. Anakin seems to learn a lesson in both trusting others and learning to let go/not be so obsessively possessive. In other words, to curb his tendency to form attachments that overwhelm his judgement and Jedi teachings. At the end of the exchange between Master and Padawan Yoda smiles.
>>
>>88775757
The A-Wing is a fucking beast, we need to start seeing it more.
>>
>>88775875
Unfortunately it ultimately wouldn't work. Events move in ways, along with Sheev's whispered poisons in Anakin's ear, that drive him further into darkness and make him even more driven to protect his attachments. Sadly some of that is when Ahsoka left the Order. Anakin almost certainly could have let her go if she'd "graduated". He could support and let her be in own person in victory. When she left the Order, however, it felt like failure and he took her decision deeply personally. No surprise when she returns he tries to win her over with grandiose gestures like her own clone army painted in her honor.

Might as well have been a possessive dad trying to win his rebellious kids affection with a shiny new car.

The Y-Wing is in all of those as well though and TCW.

>>
>>88775887
Helps to keep in mind that Rebels A-Wings aren't the same as ROTJ A-Wings. The versions in Pheonix Squadron are slower, not much match for Interceptors. This is because later on the Alliance would retrofit A-Wings removing shields, armor, and the heavier weapons. This change in weight and power requirements significantly boosted the A-Wing's speed beyond even the TIE Interceptors.

TIE is a cheap mass produced fighter design for best value for money, rather than individual performance, trying to fight droids in a battle of attrition is a bad idea

better to stick to their strength of individual skill, instead of going toe to toe with the droids main advantage
>>

the y wing is in all those AS A BOMBER which is a giant terrible meme that it looks like the new canon is pursuing

also the B-wing scenes with Hera were based off the Rocketeer movie

>>88775996
when did this happen

>>88776017
Yes, a strike fighter or fighter bomber is an accurate term but that makes it like a P38 Lightning or F-15 Eagle, not a Ju87 Stuka or B57 Hustler. It can blast fighters with the best of em. See: Battle of Endor where it boom and zooms TIE interceptors
>>
>>88775790
I think it's because she's overshadowed by Luke who the Jedi and Han Solo who's the fun scoundrel.
Leia is just "the girl".
But yeah, she's cool, especially in alternate media. But casuals only see the movies, so they don't really know all characters 100%.

I wish they would have gone the Legends route and actually have her be trained to use the Force.
>>
>>88776027
Yeah, it's an odd shift from the Y-Wings and other more fighter-looking ships like the ARC to the eyeballs.

>>88776082
Did the show ever even have a shield flash? Personally I'd keep the heavy hitters though, if only because a stupidly fast craft is gonna have very little time to aim and hit stuff, so you need to be able to get your enemies in a go or two.

>I mean you can't just assign a kid that's gotta be train for years, maybe decades, at random.

I doubt it's random. The council probably chooses based on who'd the padawan could learn the most from. Look at Obi-wan and Qui-gon. Obi-wan was very by the books and Qui-gon was the free spirit type. They were probably assigned to level eachother out. Even Ahsoka was assigned to Anakin with an end goal in mind.

>Also I think there's was some shit about a Mirialan youngling had to become the Padawan of a Mirialan Jedi (if avaiable at the time) because of the Force related religion on their home plant. Though I dunno if that is canon or legends.

For the moment, it's legends. Though if they decide to get into that, it'll probably be recanonized unless they decide that Luminara having a Mirialan apprentice was not the basis of their arrangement.

a-wings are designed to shoot bombers, so they are out of their element in a pure dogfight, like the fishbed

Their shields more often than not don't. Trench had his thermal shields that were torpedo resistant, but typically we don't see anything. Like Raddus' ship, you'd never know it had shields until we were told they were down to 50%.

I think this is mostly because the PT added shield effects for things like Droideka and those big canopy shields, gungan personal shields, etc, but the ships never had them visible. You'd never know, for instance, that the DSII had them without (non-jammed) scanners.

I'm guessing that's probably what the various Masters that solely teach in the temple are good for. Like Cin Drallic would probably learn pretty fast which youngling has an affinity for Lightsaber combat and would relay that to the council.

Chances of that ever being addressed are very slim though, since we'd need to get something with a clear focus on Mirialan and so far there's nothing. Too bad, I'd really like to learn more about them. Even the Twi'lek have more canon stuff on them now.

Yeah, but at least this is Hamill on a wire, instead of a CGI effect. Plus, Hamill is a young-ish man in reasonably good shape, so it's easier to believe it's real.

It's like Superman. Does Superman NEED huge muscles? Of course not, his super strength comes from his alien physiology reacting to yellow sunlight. But his muscular appearance helps us, as the audience, accept that super strength. It assists our suspension of disbelief, because even though his strength is much greater than anything any human is capable of, at least he LOOKS strong.

If Lee weren't so rickety by ROTS it would have looked better. It looks much better in AOTC for this very reason.

So I've been playing KOTOR for the first time after hearing all the hubbub, and while it's not a bad game at all (even if it has aged horribly), am I the only one who finds it ironic how people gave TFA shit for being criminally derivative yet KOTOR is also the same? I mean, Taris is Alderaan (with upper Taris also being Coruscant), T3-M4 is R2, HK-47 is a murderous 3PO (and there are more 3PO-like protocol droids in the game too), Zaalbar is Chewbacca, Darth Malak is Darth Vader (bald cyborg Sith Lord), Vandar Tokare is Yoda, the Sith Empire is the Galactic Empire, the Star Forge is the Death Star (McGuffin artifacts the bad guys use), the Jedi get BTFO (not as badly as in before ANH but still). Hell, they've even got a sequence similar to the TIE Fighter attack on the Millennium Falcon as a gameplay feature.

Sheesh. I'm surprised they didn't give Calo Nord green Mandalorian armor, or at least a jetpack.

Thermal shields seem to be more effective than regular shields, or at least torpedo resistant?

Also a fun tidbit but they had scientists working on shield projects in the novel Catalyst. They had no idea what they were working on, certainly not a shield capable of protecting something like the Death Star, but it also seems likely they were taking some of the development from that project and applying it as it benefits other ships too. The Death Star was such a huge thing to cover I imagine they discovered all kinds of tricks and techniques that could be scaled down to other ships.

The Chancellor sent the Jedi SECRETLY. No one is supposed to know they're involved. If the Federation admits to them being there, they implicate themselves. If the Jedi testify, it makes Valroum look corrupt for secretly dispatching them without proper approval. People forget this entire situation was unwinnable because the Sith were involved.

>If the Jedi testify, it makes Valroum look corrupt for secretly dispatching them without proper approval.
Why send them if he can't use them?

The movie doesn't even show that he can't use them.
All it'd take is Obi-Wan wanting to testify and someone telling him he can't.
>>
>>88776857
That's so easy it probably wasn't considered worth mentioning. The problem in the Senate wasn't a matter of truth, it was corruption and bureaucracy. The truth, even from the lips of a Jedi, will not carry as much weight as money, dear anon.

And of course once Padme initiated the vote of no-confidence, which she did as an act of desperation because Sheev put the idea in her head, it was too late anyway. You saw how fast the Senate was jumping at the chance to vote.

The REAL truth, which you may not hear from a Jedi, is that this was never about the events on Naboo. This was politics, as deep and dirty a game as ever there was, where the truth is more often twisted, beaten, and whored for whatever cause you want. Even the Jedi's words could be twisted (as would happen to them later on).

>Why send them if he can't use them?
No offense but did you even watch the movie or read the opening crawl? They were sent secretly to see if they could settle the dispute between the Federation and Naboo. The Federation did not know they were Jedi because Valorum figured they would fix the problem right then and there because the Jedi were known for finding compromise. What the Jedi and Valrorun didn't count on was the Sith manipulating the Federation. It was an unwinnable situation, anon. The Sith had about a 1,000 years running to this specific plot. They were ready to deal with any outcome. We saw because even though Padme was unpredictable, Palpatine still won.

You have to put the hype around KOTOR into context. It came out in 2003, right around when Revenge of the Sith came out to conclude the prequels. The prequels by that point where completely despised, ROTS included.

So KOTOR was essentially the TFA of its day: it was a classic Star Wars story, with all the familiar beats and motifs, and that was something Star Wars fans gobbled up after a decade of the prequels.

The difference is that KOTOR is not AS derivative as TFA, and that unlike TFA it's actually fairly charming. It also features a plot twist that arguably beats "I am your father" for how much it blows your mind the first time you experience it.

Krennic did tell Galen that the project had stalled. So my bet is that Galen got the stuff they needed fixing fixed, and in doing so taught them how to fix it themselves.
So Death Star II didn't have to be stalled, they knew how to build it immediately.

No. They commissioned the second once the first was destroyed.
It was easier to build the second one since they already had the experience. Besides, building the first Death Star itself didn't take 20 years, the delay was mostly due to the lack of the superlaser. The structure itself was fairly easy to build.

Saw this on /tv/. Rumored leaks for Episode VIII.

>Rey becomes Luke's apprentice, but often questions his teachings. Luke journeyed to the ancient Jedi temple on Ahch-To to find a way to defeat Snoke.

>Finn joins the Resistance and befriends a mechanic (Kelly Marie Tran). Leia is injured in an attack by the First Order in which Finn and the mechanic are left on their own, hunted down by Captain Phasma.

>A politician (Laura Dern) takes over the Resistance and advocates for negotiating a peace treaty with the First Order, declining to help Finn and the mechanic. Poe ultimately gets fed up and reclaims command of the Resistance in Leia's absence.

>Kylo Ren and the Knights of Ren are sent to Ahch-To to kill Rey and Luke. Rey and Kylo fight while Luke disposes of the Knights of Ren. Kylo is ultimately captured, and develops a bond with Rey, revealing something that causes her to have a falling out with Luke.

>Finn and the mechanic end up on a casino planed run by a "Man in Black" (Benicio Del Toro) on a mission for the Resistance. He appears friendly at first, but then betrays them to the First Order. When Rey finds out Finn is in danger, she forces Kylo to lead her to the casino planet. Luke refuses to follow at first.

>Rey and Finn reunite and find out Snoke is on the casino planet alongside numerous Force worshippers. They attempt to stop him and learn a secret relating to Rey and the Force.

>Poe leads the Resistance on an assault on the casino planet to rescue Finn and Rey. Finn is betrayed by the mechanic. When Phasma injures Poe, Finn kills her.

>Snoke attempts to entice Rey to the Dark Side and rejects Kylo over her. Luke arrives and confronts Snoke, who retreats. Kylo gets butthurt and kidnaps Rey, going off on his own to find the "middle ground" between the Dark Side and the Light.

>Luke rejoins the Resistance as Finn and Poe vow to find and rescue Rey.

This triggers much autism about the speed difference between a wings and TIE/IN. Considering the difference in max atmospheric speed between a T-65 and a TIE/IN is 200km yet the difference in atmospheric speed between an a wing and a TIE/IN is only 50km the Intercepter should be much closer to the A-wing. Plus they both have the same acceleration in MGLT/s: 21. On top of all that, this chart measures maneuverability as well, which the intercepter is better at, if only by a little.
Tl;Dr The TIE/IN should be closer to the a-wing and I hate myself.

If you follow lore, building the Death Star was not a problem. As you see in ROTS, they had a frame of it done. Then you look at the sheer scale of the building of massive capital ships like the Secutor, Mandtor and Praetor. Or the other massive spacestations. Building the Superlaser was a BIG problem. Getting the kyber crystals was tedious and long. They got sabotage many times by Rebel groups and they couldn't figure out how to harness using a superlaser without destroying themselves. Once they got it down, it was very simply built because they already had a full operation station in 3 years + 6 months.

You're making this up. AOTC was loved for not including Jar Jar and having much more action and better pacing compared to TPM. We didn't even get a hint about ROTS yet. Cody and Grevious's names weren't even released yet. This is even dumber considering KOTOR took a lot of inspiration from the prequel films right down to the music.

Synthetic crystals aren't used in lightsabers in canon. They're a highly unstable, prone-to-exploding black market item

Sith have red crystals because they force a bond with a kyber crystal. The process of forcing the bond makes it turn red.

because they were interesting
rey is a boring little girl with no backstory who magically excels at everything and supercedes every other character in the movie, which is the bad writer's method of telling the audience "pay attention to this character she is interesting" and to which the audience subconsciously reacts "no she isn't fuck off"
>>
>>88780304
To be fair Rey only had one story so far under a very meh director, so who knows?
Some more material to actually flash her out would be appreciated though.
Of course characters like Kyle and Corran are more liked because they have a lot more stories to them.
>>
>>88780206
Because they're fun in ways that Rey really isn't.

Especially Kyle. Kyle is a fucking blast. Literally Bruce Campbell with a lightsaber.

>that doesn't excuse the mary sue status but but the fact that TFA is so painfully boxed in and everythings a fucking "mystery box" (as a previous anon eloquently put it) renders the whole movie a totally boring snoozefest of nothing
Well, take Finn for example, he's stuck in the same movie as her, yet he DOES manage to be a compelling character. The dude is a coward that just wants to fuck off, but when it was important he did the right thing.
And Poe has his own comic ongoing so there's also that. Rey basically suffers from the fact that she's the central stage and that her past has to be shrouded in mistery.
>>
>>88780443
Exactly, that's the problem the previous anon pointed out, Disney has shot themselves in the foot with this super secrecy and NOTHING about the setting and history being explained, so that when a major "plot" """"""""twist""""""""""" is revealed, the only possible conclusions are that everybody is going to see it coming a mile away and have their intelligence insulted by its obviousness, or it's going to be so autistically obscure and convoluted that people are going to be pissed and not give a fuck about the meaningless nonsense. There's such a thing as being too cautious, and the play-it-safe method of TFA resulted in self-checkmating.

>>88780463
yeah but Poe and Finn are not mary sues, their roles are completely overshadowed by Rey, who is a nothing, who feels nothing, who makes the audience feel nothing, and renders the movie a big fat nothing because she's so central to it.

Rey needs development more than anything else, and she'll get it. She DID get it in TFA but mostly in the order of finding the Force, which merely added to her powers so it fed into the argument that she's too much.

She can pilot, but she's not perfect, far from it. Her greatest trick was lining up Finn's last shot and she had no idea how she'd done it. We find out it was the Force.

She's a mechanic to a degree but the usefulness is questionable. It was used as an excuse for why the Falcon was parked so Han and Chewie could find it. They mention using poison gas against Han before they knew it was him but that never happens. It was used to release the Rathtars, sort of helpful but nearly got Finn's butt tentacled. Then she rips out a component both she and Han knew would cause trouble in hyperdrive. I mean that's it, literally her expert bypass job was yanking the damn thing out. This is another plot convenience used to gain her some points with Han. Easiest way to get in his good graces is to help his baby. It's also to show roundabout as a passing of the torch for the Falcon. Though Chewie will still be there, the ship has been effectively passed to the new characters continued usage.

She can fight Unkar's goons well enough, though it helps that they were just trying to steal BB-8 and given Unkar has a boner for Rey they were probably going easier on her. She runs from troopers (she managed to kill a few) and falls to Kylo Ren.

She has the Force, but has pretty much the same level of training as Luke. Maz just tells her to feel the Force and it will be her guide. She manages to trick a guy, but it's a skill even Padawans can handle (if the target is weak willed enough) and she'd had some recent experience in mind fuckery. Then she defeats an already wounded Kylo Ren only after she accepts the Force as her Lord and Savior.
>>
>>88780702
I understand why people call her a Sue. She has a lot of utility but very little amazing. Poe flies far better. Of the new characters Finn nearly gets the worst since he fails multiple fights except BB-8 remains completely useless outside of a MacGuffin (they should have let BB-8 close the door on the Rathtar to save Finn so the little shit got to do something useful). Rey gets to be their designated new Force User but while people complain about what she did I don't see it elevating her to Suedom. Why? Because it felt like the Force was repeatedly saving her stupid ass so she could complete the destiny it tried to set out for her in the middle of the damn movie. Her mind trick eventually worked but she didn't rely on it and hid. Her fighting skills were rough and her opponent was wounded. She badly needs a true teacher.

There is nothing inherently wrong, I think, in what she did in the film, I mostly do not rate JJ as a very competent director. He's too slapdash, relying too much on narrative convenience and often forces impossible scenarios just because he feels they have more emotional impact. Whether Rey will get better treatment in another director/writer's hands, well, I guess we'll find out.

I can't take people seriously when they call Rey a Mary Sue but then praise Mara Jade. Cause beautiful super duper force wielding secret spy assassin who marries a main character is so ingenious.
>>
>>88780578
I don't know if I'd call those outbreaks, as such. Nightsisters were only possible due to Magickâ„¢, used the corpses of dead sisters, and collapsed when the caster was killed. It helped that even someone who can't use the Force could follow the trail of the "spell" to its source (though he needed Dooku to tell him).

Geo zombies are alien worm based and their actual zombies are said to be based on the power of the Geonosian hive mind from the Queen. The outbreak on that republic ship was more like Body Snatchers. They didn't have the insane durability of the bug zombies, acted more or less normal. They could converse (in geonosian no less!) and infected Barriss could even use the Force. Which is actually pretty badass in the implications.

All I know about TFA's sound track is that JJ fucked Williams over by only giving him the movie scene by scene, not as a whole thing. I never heard anything about what time of year it was done and what time constraints were on it.
RO's composer was fucked over because the one first hired fucked off and the new guy had to start from scratch with only four weeks to do it.
>>
>>88780996
TFA's wasn't last minute so much as not properly organized. They didn't give Williams a finished cut of the movie to score, so he didn't quite have the proper context for the movie. It was still pretty late in production, IIRC he started recording June of 2015.

With Rogue One, Giacchino came in and redid the entire soundtrack in September.

>Rey's Mary Sue status might be revoked with the help of future movies but for the time being that's what she is.

I cannot see Rey as a Mary Sue, but then I'm using this definition:

>An idealized and seemingly perfect fictional character, a young or low-rank person who saves the day through unrealistic abilities.

She's definitely young and low rank, but I don't really see her as idealized or seemingly perfect, and "unrealistic abilities" is kind of hard in a setting with the Force. Some people think her capacity with the Force was unrealistic but, well, that can be debated back and forth. Feels like a true Mary Sue would have mastered the Mind Trick after that one usage and then charmed a bunch of troopers to act as her bodyguards, then mind tricked Hux to order her release and give her command of his own Star Destroyer.

What bugs me about Rey is that she's poorly developed and basically becomes a vessel for the Force which is basically carrying her ass for plot convenience to get her to Luke. That's not the same as a Mary Sue but I suppose they're close enough to easily confuse the two. Ultimately it doesn't matter because it is STILL a big problem with her regardless.

People escape Vader. It happens since he's not perfect. The most classic of course being Luke after he lost his hand, though I don't think Vader was yet ready to kill his son. It's certainly an escape from Vader. Then there is Cham's waifu whom he tried to choke out in her own ship while he was piloting another. He wasn't able to seal the deal then either due to circumstances intervening. The Rebels escaped multiple times (Sabine even took two deflected blaster bolts). We could argue some of those were rouses by Vader but certainly not every one. And Ahsoka herself may very well have survived. Last seen apparently alive but we won't know for awhile yet.
