I knew CBR was far gone, but not THIS far gone. Yikes!

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

>article cites carol corps and bitch planet

Ah, yes, the year when MARKETING told you something was good but it actually wasn't.
>>
>>88645659
The Walking Dead is responsible, not Saga.
TWD exploded in 2011/2012, even overtaking DC as #1 bookstore publisher in the latter year, and it basically helped kill Vertigo and usher an era where creator owned takes an even bigger piece of the pie.

BKV doesn't even want Saga to be adapted ever.

>>88647054
Yeah

Anyway OP's image is pretty correct
>synergy is now prevalent before and after movie/show comes out
>trade sales are higher than ever, especially for creator owned
>there's more than just 1-2 token female/black/whatever writers
>big two tried with New 52 and Marvel Now to renumber/reboot to try to appeal to non comic readers
Calling it "golden" is debatable but no doubt 2011/2012 did start a new era of stuff
>>
>>88647178
>and it basically helped kill Vertigo

That didn't kill Vertigo. The change in creator contracts during the 00's did, combined with DC deciding to fold back in DC characters who'd been under the Vertigo banner for a while (Constantine, Swamp Thing).
>>
>>88647282
>helped kill
People realizing they could make more money elsewhere helps while having full rights
Now only exclusives who are ok with not writing elsewhere and new writers who would flop even worse elsewhere are the only ones they can get
>>
>>88647100

>>
>>88644804
The shitters really didn't do any reading up, did they?

If anything, House of M was the jumping off point for the tripe we see now. "Boom" this isn't.
>>
>>88647390
Also, the talent just isn't there anymore. During Vertigo's golden days it had incredible creators working for them. In the last 5 or so years I haven seen that many creator owned series that were truly god tier.
>>
>>88644804
I went and checked CBR. The only really good articles there now are the ones that had been running on that Comics Should Be Good blog. They should really just ditch CBR soon.

I also find it funny that one of those articles I liked, G. Kendall's retrospective on Wizard, actually finally got to the point where Wizard had a really notable downturn. Coincidentally, CBR's took a notable downturn this year.

>>88644804
I see a lot of feminists talking about how this is their golden age of comics on twitter, the sales argue with those claims
>>
>>88648386
The problem is that since Disney bought Marvel, the higher-ups don't give two shits about sales. Only the movies and merchandise- which allows SJWriters to do whatever they want.
>>

progressiveness is the good part, it at least interesting when robot has cocks on his screen or whatever but the simplistic family drama that is taking forever to unfold is not interesting. kid The will died for is not doing anything interesting and while its mildly amusing to watch characters trying to find secrets of life in a book by a degenerate, it has its limits
>>
>>88650965
I dunno man sales are pretty high compared to 2010 and 2011, creators can leave the big two after a while, and there's a lot of tv shows and movies about big two and non-big two comics
>>
>>88651027
>but the simplistic family drama that is taking forever to unfold is not interesting.

The problem is that Alana and Marko are sourrounded by people that are infinitely more interesting than them. An exiled robot prince with PSTD, a mercenary that used to date a spider lady and is considered amongst the best, a high level bureaucrat that got demoted and adopts her ex's kid... all those are better than "Romeo and Juliet, but with shitty personalities."
>>
>>88651027
Progressiveness for its own sake is pointlessly hedonistic. Its the problem i have with most gay characters. Love or hate kidnighter the fact that he was gay or had entire pages where he was fucking a dude added to the character without making it the only focus. However, he's been the only person to get that kind of treatment every other gay character is safe, boring, and one note. Which brings down gay characters as a fucking whole and minority chqracters as well. It' just setting the trend to checkmark a list of sanitized one dimensional characters who bog the story down.
>>
>>88650637
What about men that used to be women?

Fuck off shill. Rebirth is one of the single biggest breaths of fresh air the industry has ever seen. They're combining top tier talent with best-in-class editors and the end result is high selling, low cost, genre-defining masterpieces for everyone from casual to hardcore, upper class to lower class, far-right to centrist, and everyone in between.

If every comic publisher was even a quarter as good as DC Rebirth has been, then the comics industry would start to rival its contemporary media sin profitability and popularity. Basically, Marvel and all these Literally Whos like "image" and "IDW" are dragging everyone else down while DC is the only one doing anything to keep the industry a float.

Remember that the next time you think to open your shill mouth and try to imply that Rebirth is anything less than a revelatory experience.

Seriously, when will being a Marvel shill become a bannable offense? All they do is shitpost up and down the board with their blatant bait. I'm fucking sick of the fact that anytime anyone remotely criticizes Marvel, the shills start pouring in to go "b-b-but DC" and spew nothing short of blatant libel. It's like they WANT the comics industry to fail.
>>
>>88651064
Izombie is only none big 2 comic I know that has a show and they changed everything. The fact that archie is getting a show and there will be an emoji movie just shows they are latching on to anything. The CW is known for trying to milk everything and keeping shows alive long after they should die.

how brainwashed do you have to be to eat up this shit? Rebirth is a fix for the problem that they themselves made and as always it involved shorthand writing made out of butchered versions of older stories
>>
>>88651272
Lucifer the tv show has nothing in common with the comic other than having a character named mazikin. you may as well be watching Dominion or any other show with Lucifer in it or any other buddy cop drama where a character has magic powers that help them solve crime for example forever (2014). What golden age are they talking about? When it comes to Marvel and DC, they're controlled by incredibly shortsighted individuals. When their books aren't being used as political soapboxes the content is dictated by what was in a movie. And let's not forget about the annual event cycle they love so much.

The article fails to realize that the majority of people still don't care about actual comic books. A good film/television adaption may spark interest but they don't bring in new fans.

It's hard to argue with it's point about Image's rise. Lightening struck twice for them with TWD and Saga. But I hate to give the publisher too much credit since most of what they release dies after the creative team gets a gig at Marvel and DC.

While CBR is more than likely incorrect in what they believe to be the point of origin for the "Current Comics Boom", there is a precedent that has been built up over the past several decades in that every twenty years or so results in a new Age/Era of comics. I haven't updated the following charts in a little over a year, but they're what I've found as helpful splitting points in discussions.

This one is DC-centric:
>The Golden Age (New Fun Comics #1 - Showcase #4)
>The Silver Age (Showcase #4 - Green Lantern #76)
>The Bronze Age (Green Lantern #76 - Saga of the Swamp Thing #20)
>The Dark Age (Saga of the Swamp Thing #20 - Kingdom Come #1)
>The Modern Age (Kingdom Come #1 - Today)

And here's Marvel:
>The Golden Age (Marvel Comics #1 - Fantastic Four #1)
>The Silver Age (Fantastic Four #1 - The Amazing Spider-Man #121)
>The Bronze Age (The Amazing Spider-Man #121 - [circa 1980s?])
>The Dark Age ([1980s?] - [1990s?])
>The Modern Age ([1990s?] - Today)
>>
>>88658178
>>The Silver Age (Fantastic Four #1 - The Amazing Spider-Man #121)
>>The Bronze Age (The Amazing Spider-Man #121 - [circa 1980s?])

Change ASM #121 to Conan #1; Conan #1's usually cited as an early Bronze Age comic.
>>
>>88658061
