>>
Viewing ANH takes on some new meaning. Tagge being concerned about the Rebels becoming a problem makes a lot of sense. They just got surprised attacked on one of their installations by a sizable Rebel fleet that managed to not only steal data but down two Star Destroyers. The admirals on the ground of Scarrif were freaking out seeing Rebels attack them in force.

I'm more curious about the political side of it, Tagge is talking about the Rebellion "Continue to gain support in the Senate", we know that there were Senators inside the Rebelion. but i doubt that all Senators that sympathized with it were members of the Rebellion, i wonder how the Rebellion was able to make a narrative about restoring the Republic while attacking Imperial installations and personnel

Rebels isn't bad though. It's not as good as TCW, but it's pretty good with what what they're allowed and have to do with it.

>>
>>88587587
the dissolution of the senate, destruction of Alderaan and destruction of the death star give the rebellion the legitimacy it desired.
>>
>>88587587
It's not until Alderaan is blown up and the Senate is dissolved that the erstwhile senators go public with restoring the senate and thus making it a real civil war.

Before then the rebellion was, more or less, secret, with the military knowing that there was more to it than the public, but there was nothing official. "sympathy for the rebellion" is more like the Senate wanting to hear the grievances they have for why they would rebel.
>>
>>88587659

>>
Political star wars Netflix show when?
>>
>>88587438

Lost Stars has some shit take place concurrently or just after Scarif but before ANH. The empire didn't expect to have a concentrated resistance capable of doing that. Up until now all they'd really faced was old retrofits and smaller cruisers. Even the Dantooine base shocked them simply because of it's scale, being able to hold multiple squadrons and battalions at once.

Most people in the empire expected their duty to just be patrolling and handling a handful of pirates. The idea that there would ever be a military force sizable enough to even be any kind of challenge never actually occurred.

Disney doesn't give a shit about what you think, because they know you're going to watch the shit anyway. The best thing about a spin off in that era is that all of the actors are pretty much the same age as they were in TFA to reprise their roles in films set a few years before the events of TFA. in the FFG RPG, both the players and the stormtroopers are very accurate, without plot armor you get a whole new perspective on stormtroopers, who can show of what they were meant to be

it speaks volumes that, even when you can shoot straight and accurate, lightsabers are still so powerful that players should not be allowed to start with one

they generally are when protags arent involved
they manage to storm a chokepoint against the rebels on board tantive IV with less casualties
they also take Hoth, the rebels main base, despite them being completely prepared for the attack
and on endor they do initially cause the rebel attack to plainly surrender, and the ewoks actually do get utterly crushed after the surprise wears off, only succeeding when chewbacca jacks a chicken-walker, and the ewoks switch to more effective tactics
TIE fighters also inflict heavy casualties on Red and Gold squadron, and even put luke into a bind

Rebels need desperately to start to branch off of the main cast, one of the things about TCW that helped it get so good was that there was such a diverse cast that not every episode had to focus on the main trio, thus giving the audience some breathing between Anakin's last shenanigans and the next ones. The main reason S3 is getting more criticized is precisely because we are getting some episodes that don't advance the main plot while not being relevant enough for the main characters either

It's worse than that, it's the fact that the ONLY good episodes are Kanan and Ezra Force related ones. Hera and Sabine are fucking awful characters that utterly ruin the show in every way. Any time they are the focus or more than just in the background with more than one or two throwaway lines the show turns to complete shit. Chopper and Zeb are fucking nothing, but too much of them is also shit. Maul and Rex are great, not used enough. Hondo has LONG overstayed his welcome and the show just constantly brings him back because they have no other fucking ideas. A little Honda goes a very long way and now I'm just beyond tired of the same old stale bullshit with him. In short, there are maybe 4 or 5 decent episodes in a season amidst 15+ boring, horrendous, filler ones that revolve around some of the worst characters ever created in Star Wars.

But he's obviously going to become a Dai Bendu instead of a Jedi. He's literally training under Bendu and everything. Kanan is like someone who used to be a Muslim who is studying the Catholic Church and planning on getting baptised. He's literally in the process of changing his religion. Plus he doesn't have the role of a Jedi. He isn't seeking diplomatic solutions to the civil war neither is he seeking out the Sith to destroy them like Luke ends up doing. Kanan is devoting all of his time to fighting in a war in an attempt to win it instead of doing what Luke did and trying to kill the Sith then abandoning the conflict.
>>
>>88590838
>Assassinations and hes not regretful about it.

he IS regretful about it, but he still do it because he see it as necessary. That's the entire reason why he and the other rebel went on the suicide mission.

Yes and no. If you consider it the most iconic vehicle, I would agee.
But if your implying it's a effective combat vehicle, it is most certainly not the best. Big, clunky, and from what I can tell only has two fairly small lasers at it's front. There are no heavy weapons that a platform that size would be designed for. Nothing to guard it's sides and rear. And let's not forget those easily topped legs.
It's not a well thought out design for a war machine.
>>
>>88590896
I don't think Bendu's path actually qualifies as an organized religion. I think that defeats the purpose.
>>
>>88590919
He didn't kill Eeth Koth, just spanked him and captured him. He captured Adi Gallia too, so even if he didn't kill them he's defeated two council members in TCW. Plus a third when you bring in Depa in the Kanan comics.
>>
>>88590896
Like Obi-Wan and Yoda, Kanan knows he can't beat Vader so he's doing what he can and training Ezra who is actively looking for a way to defeat the Sith.

Regardless it's different than the Jedi. Its like going from a Christian to believing that Bob Marley is the son of god and heaven and hell are the same place where you periodically get punished and rewarded. It may not be an official religion or philosophy but it is different than their past belief system and you can safely say that they're no longer subscribed to Christianity at that point.

I like Kylo in a "love to hate" kind of way. He is a good follow up to Vader since anything else they could have done would of felt like them trying too hard to 1up Vader.

>There was that one episode where it opens with him killing Master Koth.

Defeating and capturing, not killing. He's rescued later.

That said, he's killed more Jedi than the series shows. He has a trophy room in the episode Lair of General Grievous that showcases a large collection of Jedi lightsabers, Padawan braids and (maybe) heads. Another instance where reputation is moreso implied than outright shown. Which in his defensecis fine for me, considering all he had to fight during the course of the show were characters who weren't slated to die until RotS or later. That and clone fodder. Also Captain Tarpals who died for nothing.
>>
>>88590847
That's his character. He is dedicated to the cause, and follows orders and is ready to get his hands dirty, no matter how morally questionable that would be, which is already pretty interesting considering how the Rebels are usually portrayed as definitive "good guys". And at first he doesn't give a shit about it, but over the course of the film he starts questioning things and disobeying orders.

I don't think Poe Dameron ever did anything remarkable in the movie. He wasn't on screen long enough for him to really become a character. We got a glimpse of him being an archetype 'hotshot' young pilot, and that's pretty much it. In my opinion, that's not enough to sell me on him, and certainly not enough to make him the focus of his own comic book. I know Wedge Antilles was in the exact same boat, but his book was an ensemble book and his name wasn't in the title.

Jyn Erso's biggest problem is that Felicity Jones has all the acting chops of a tree stump. And I think they knew that in filming, because she hardly had any scenes where she had to show emotion and personality. Or maybe they just left it all on the cutting room floor.

With Cassian Andor, it's pretty much the same deal as Poe. We're meant to think he's a big deal character without him ever actually doing anything to show us that. So he killed his informant to keep him quiet? Okay. He's willing to kill for the Rebellion? That's not really a personality trait. And later he suddenly decides he won't kill Jyn's father because he might actually be good because Jyn says so. That's not much of a character arc. Han Solo being an arrogant, selfish nerf herder for a whole movie, but coming back to risk his neck to save Luke and destroy the Death Star after coming to know them through their experiences and realizing Luke was right about him, THAT is a character arc.

Cassian went through his little arc in less than a third of the time it took for Han Solo.

I don't think I need to say anything about Dr. Aphra, since most of the thread thinks she's shit already.

Kylo Ren. What about Kylo Ren? He turned evil because Voldemort said so but now he's struggling with the good within. Unless the sequel blows this story wide open, it's really pretty shallow.

its turbo lasers are apparently extremely powerful, being capable of tearing apart fortifications with ease, and its sides are presumably slab sided to carry more troops in it, since gun nests will eat up space that troops could use, its legs are a weakpoint, but one that cant easily be exploited, only the U-wing and snowspeeder could take advantage of it, many gun emplacements hit the legs to no effect

*Editing my original comment because it was vague.

Not that anon again but what I found interesting about Cassian was that he was very different from many of the Alliance personnel we've come to know. He's very grey in his philosophies. You get a pretty clear picture this guy has been fighting for so long, it's become routine to execute people like his contact. He's starting to become the very thing he hates. It took Jyn to really start shaking his faith and look in the mirror. We haven't seen that done on film before with Rebel alliance personnel.

Serious question guys: did you dislike the choreography of the prequel lightsaber fights?

I feel like some people thought it was refreshing to see something very new and unexpected. Maul was insanely popular.
>>
>>88593177
it was pretty cool
but i prefer less flipping and turning your back on your opponent
the OTs swordplay was not anymore realistic, but it is a bit more grounded
>>
>>88593177
I think the OT fights are incredibly overrated, they are piss poor. Granted they were bound by technical limitations, but it doesnt make the fights better. The prequels had better choreography no contest, people only hate it because "not muh star wars"

Maul's fight was the single best fight to date, Obi-wan vs Anakin is a close second but it dragged on too long

Basically this >>88593245

Obi-Wan vs Vader in A New Hope is objectively a terrible fight by modern standards. Sure if you slow down the prequel fights and analyze each individual blow it might not make any sense, and if you take a one-second clip and loop it it might look funny, but they weren't meant to be seen that way. The fights blend together with the amazing score and are super satisfying.
>>
>>88593177
>do you dislike the choreography of the prequel lightsaber fights
yes, it sacrificed too much realism and power for speed and gymnastics, in the same way that the OT has too little speed and athleticism.

the ST has a better balance of the two styles.
>>
>>88593177
I liked it, even if it was over the top at times.

the OT fights worked for that era, but with today's technology and choreography, we can achieve so much more.

While the Mustafar duel is a technical marvel, my favorite fight is still Darth Vader vs Luke on the death star. there was so much emotion packed into it.

The Maul fight is the best overall, Brobi-Wan vs Anakin is cool until they go outside.
Any fight with Dooku or Yoda in it sucks shit

>>88593177

I was a fan of Chinese martial art movies so I thought it was cool they brought it into Star Wars. It's sad Chirrut didnt get to use a double bladed lightsaber doing some IP man tier shit on Stormies

>Obi-Wan vs Vader in A New Hope is objectively a terrible fight by modern standards

720p takes up less space, which is running out fast, and I prefer to keep stuff rather than delete it, in case I want to rewatch it at any time. And I can hardly watch anything in 1080p on my TV, it's streaming from my external hard drive too slowly. 720p normally loads just fine, and the difference in resolution isn't that noticable, compared to 480p.

I like how the visual guide says that Edrio Two Tubes wasn't actually being a dick there, some concepts just don't translate into his native language so he has trouble with the concept of a defector.
