It's better in the sense that everything is interconnected in a logical way. For example you can figure out the political and cultural reasons the Rebellion was created by reading all the books and whatnot where in the EU it was just 'hurr fuck Palpatine thanks for the logo Starkiller'. The EU is better if you want epic stories like KOTOR or The Thrawn Trilogy but don't care about everything working together in a logical world building sense.

They're both good for different reasons.

Pic related was recommended to me by /swco/ as one of the best comics of the new canon.

It turned out to be pretty meh.
The "Sith mind corruption" plot element felt silly, and the story suffers badly from the Small Galaxy Syndrome (Lando stole Sheev's yacht of all people, and the bounty hunter sent to stop them was his old acquaintance of all people). And the bounty hunter seemed too incompetent to have become one of Sheev's best - she lets personal ties get in the way of doing her job, and got played by the pilot droid.

Please recommend a better story.
