This all culminates in a flashback to his father's death, where he (after getting shot by cops), says his last words to him.

This here is Viera. Created almost solely for use in a NSFW blog, she's got a little story too because why not-

She's a kindergarten teacher who recently moved to Colorado, and soon after made friends with a photographer. Months after settling in and getting to know the photographer more, Viera is asked to do a nude shoot. Obviously she's hesitant, but eventually agrees so long as it's tasteful. She enjoys the experience, almost feeling a release of some kind, and now considers it an outlet of artistic expression. Nude or not, she tries keep things tasteful, both as a personal choice and to avoid pissing off her students' parents if they ever find the pictures. Though frankly, she'd probably be in trouble anyway if the school ever found out about the whole thing.

You'll eventually need to find a way to dictate the direction their eyes are looking. Else it'll always look like either a thousand yard stare, or they're only ever looking forward, meaning you'll always have to move their head directly towards what they're looking at. Like an owl.

I ended up going with sort of "inverted eyes" myself. Keeps the look of the big white eyes, but allows for easily dictated direction, and lets me add color to the eyes too.

Here's one I've written up. She's not based on any specific fandom.


In an old beat-down hut in the bayou stood a young woman with scaly bluish green skin, long neon pink hair, and glassy greenish eyes. She was dressed in a strange tribal dress, with a horned beaked skull resting on her head. Dangling from the side of her mouth was a long yellow cigarette holder with a freshly lit cigarette at the tip. She was happily stirring a spoon around a large cauldron that bubbled with an odd liquid. She hummed a song as she smiled, exposing her jagged teeth. Some of her teeth were white, some yellow, some almost black, and one was gone entirely.

Her name is June Mosquito. She's a witch doctor with a thick southern accent. She's partially insane, but doesn't really mind. She's around 26. She's bubbly and energetic, and sometimes comes off as a bit of a hillbilly, with her long messy hair, fondness for moonshine and smoking, and habit of flashing her toothy smile whenever possible. She also has very poor hygiene, as most people could guess from the state of her teeth. She usually lights her cigarette off of a nearby candle, the fire under her cauldron, or whatever else is closest. She loves the various creatures in the swamp, even when they swallow her whole.

She has a pet swamp pig named Hoggis, who's big, green, and covered in mushrooms. She owns a makeshift cannon made out of an old boiler, which she sometimes shoots herself out of to travel. She's rarely seen without her cigarette holder, a family heirloom that used to belong to her mother, and likes to use it to ignite swamp bubbles and light sticks of dynamite. She also sometimes makes big fat cigars out of whatever materials she finds lying around. She brews up various potions in her cauldron, and also occasionally makes moonshine in an old distillery in her basement, which is prone to exploding in her face and covering her with soot. She often smuggles gallons of moonshine in her stomach

Every once in a while, she attempts to make a special kind of moonshine using potion ingredients in her distillery. More often than not, this results in a multicolored mushroom cloud that can be seen for miles, which shoots June off into the night sky, where she vanishes in a twinkle.

She doesn't cook much, but when she does she uses and old barbecue grill she fished out of the swamp.The grill is, of course, also prone to exploding in her face. she often offhandedly ashes her cigarette into the food she's making, but she doesn't mind the taste it leaves.

She has a young son who's a reptilian humanoid like she is. He has messy pink hair, simple brown clothing, and a reed stalk in his mouth. June enjoys firing him out of the cannon, almost as much as she enjoys firing herself. For his birthday, June usually makes him a swamp cake with cigarettes instead of candles She sometimes likes to swallow her son

June carries around a large wooden club sometimes. It seems ordinary, but it's really a powerful voodoo tool, activated by June igniting it with her cigarette/cigar. When she gets mad at her son, she'll use the club to either bonk him on the head or smack him far off into the sky, where he'll vanish with a twinkle.

Lumi is one of the supporting characters from a story I'm working on! I can ramble, so long story short, he's the runt of his family and they all treat him like a punching bag. Not so much now since they're all grown up, but he's still a scapegoat when it comes to the family getting into legal troubles (they're all involved with organized crime). He's not completely innocent either since he deliberately instigates a lot of his problems.

Otherwise than that, he's just a good boy who's dorky and is into fashion and knives.

What I mean by artistic shortcut is, that you're hastily trying to develope certain ways of drawing to replace years of diligent practice. It's the law of the nature that the longer you practice the more beautiful things you can draw.

It's a dilemma for web comic artists how much they'll practice drawing fundamentals before they start their own comic. There are people like KC Green who had no concept of drawing fundamentals but they managed to learn it as they go. There are people like Ronnie or the creator of Questionable Content that crammed in some info of basic construction, then patched their flaws in drawing with their talent for writing. Then there are a lot of artists that kept training for years until they reached a whole another level that most web comic artists can never reach, because they're too busy keeping their comic updated.

You're obviously taking the first route, but it doesn't have to be so. Learn some construction and practice your drawing. You'll learn to enjoy it more and more. You can't say that you've reached the height of your talent without practicing in a way that's best for you.

assuming Deviantart is 10, your character is a 10. Are you a furry yourself? The art here makes me believe you are. For some reason I feel like furfaggotry is super easy to spot in art, even when there is nothing inherently sexual about the art. I think in your case, t's the eyes, snout, and markings on the face. Try to make the eyes and general anatomy more animalistic, the eyes smaller and beadier, the feet cartoonishly large, and I would personally give him hands. Maybe give him sleeves if you want to seem less furry.

If you want to draw anthro without it looking furfaggy, I'd suggest looking at art from Overgrowth, Elder Scrolls (especially Skyrim), and David Lynch's Rabbits.

Her full name is Marissa Elcrest. She's a witch gal I made a long time ago- sorta developed her along the years, although, it's been pretty basic stuff. She's an apprentice to an archmage called Carmilla Arthen, and one of her main goals is to become just like her teacher. She's very haughty and self-centered- generally believes that she's a cut above the rest, despite the fact that she's only a novice in what she knows. Takes a big interest in incantations and magic circles- can summon small beasts to fight for her. Calls herself the owner and protector of the forest she and her teacher live in.

I've never really given her a proper story, for some reason- probably lack of time/investment + didn't know what sounded good? I'll do it soon enough.

(This isn't my art, btw- can't draw for shit, but I can write.)

Thanks again! And I post my art on...tumblr I guess (my blog is jenkart). I haven't updated it in a while since I'm working on portfolio stuff and I wanted to wait until I finish everything before uploading again.

And Lumi is from my Vera and Rune project! I'm taking a hiatus from it because I'm not doing a animated series anymore...I jumped the gun on a lot of things and I needed to slow down haha. The story is more about their family now, rather than this big adventure thing I had in mind in the beginning.

Yeah, I imagine Mika and Lumi's dynamic to be a lot like Edd and Eddy's friendship, except it's a lot less civil and more vitriolic! Mika's a jerk to everyone and Lumi's the only person who tolerate him (most of the time).

And Ilya's the Lenny of the family...he's naive and doesn't know his own strength or why people won't be his friend when he is shaped like one. He does get a kick of violence though.
