Vader quips in the OT multiple times though.

The "Choke" line in RO is quite literally a nod to the "Apology accepted" line in Empire.

Anybody mad about that line can get fucked, that was the moment I knew Vader was going to be perfect in the movie, because they weren't trying to play him as just some nostalgia-fueled terminator. He actually talked just how Anakin did in the OT.

Then he disappears for the entire movie only to show up as the terminator in the final scene, but fuck me that was hype

Funny you say that. While watching it, I was remarking at how similar the movie felt to TCW and Rebels.

It was as though I was watching a Rebels story in Live Action, told as though it was a high-end TCW arc stitched into a movie.

It's very clear that Gareth and Filoni have a very similar approach when it comes to expanding Star Wars.

A lot of new content, to blend with the fanservicy inclusions of the old.

Also a very large indulgence and yet respect for the lore, something that I find astounding that critics are complaining about.

Come on lads, it's symbolism. The whole planet was supposed to represent duality. The light surface was life and the dark undercrust of the planet was the underworld. When Ahsoka walks into the dark that's her passing over.

Might not be as clear cut as a lot of people would have liked but it was a more artful way of having a beloved character die during a finale steeped in symbolism already than just having her "die". I actually preferred it to the idea of Vader just chopping her head off.

they handled Anakin's transition to becoming Vader very badly in the prequels. they didn't dedicate nearly enough screentime to watching him become unhinged and consumed by anger/hatred due to the stress of the war and his frustration with the Jedi. Anakin destabilizing mentally should have been a major plot point of the PT, but instead they keep him reasonably happy-go-lucky and firmly good-aligned (even after slaughtering a village of Tuskan Raiders), until he instantly transitions into becoming a full Sith Lord.

And I don't buy this whole "oh woe is me I hate being Darth Vader this shit sucks I have nothing to live for everything is terrible boo hoo" gimmick that's supposedly being thrust at us. Anakin would either kill himself, or rebel against the Emperor with that kind of attitude, not continue on like a beta, that shit is apex weak. There has to be a part of him that gets a visceral enjoyment out of walking over everyone and being a badass as Vader.

They should have made a compulsion for order and control at any cost a major component of pre-Fall Anakin's personality, which Sidious used to manipulate him into ushering in fascism as a means of ending the suffering and anarchy of the clone war.

Every Sith Lord dreams of overthrowing their master, that doesn't imply that Vader constantly thought about returning to the light side of the Force. If Luke had accepted Vader's offer and they overthrew the Emperor together, do you seriously think that Vader would have reinstated the Republic and rebuilt the Jedi? Hell no, they would continued the Empire only with themselves at the head, as a Father-Son Sith team.

Even in the scene in ROTJ, it took a ton of prodding for Vader to even consider the possibility of abandoning the Sith. He only responded "it's too late for me" because it was the first time he'd taken stock of his situation and entertained the possibility of backing away in years, and he had decided he was in too deep.

The man had fully embraced the Dark Side, and it took until ROTJ for him to even consider renouncing it, that was kind of the whole point of the Luke/Vader conflict in that film. Darth Vader wasn't Anakin trapped in a Vader suit with no way out, he was fully committed to the idea until his son broke him free.
