Speaking in the realm of actual possibilities in the show, assuming we eventually see Steven's gem get separated from his body there's only a few select "acceptable" outcomes being that this is a daytime CN show and I doubt they'd be okay with killing off the main character. I believe it will happen eventually as this is the second time the show has brought up Steven's "death" in some way or another.

1. Steven recedes into his gem - allowing him to regenerate
The issue with this is, as >>88106071 is right about, it would require Steven's gem to be able to regenerate flesh and blood along with light. This is not technically impossible, since so long as the gem contains the right genetic code and enough cells to work with it could theoretically recreate a fully formed human.

2. Rose regenerate separate from Steven
This just seems like poor writing. Even with what >>88106073 says, Connie literally complains about the book completely derailing the plot to put in this feel good BS ending.

Anything else that's reasonable I can think of would result in Steven's death, which would either be a series finale, or outright not happen.

But Rose seems entirely disconnected from the equation in most cases. Steven feels emotions and his powers react accordingly. Once he learns how his powers work he hones his ability to control his emotions to use the powers more reliably.

Steven's gem belongs to both Steven and Rose, they can't both exist for this reason. This is why Steven is a hybrid and not a human with a gem implant. If Steven simply had Rose stuffed in his stomach, fueling him, they'd be able to coexist, because Steven at his base level would be only human, but we know he's not. Otherwise it would just be Rose using powers and Steven would be irrelevant to the situation, and it would be Rose powering things, which would mean Steven's powers would mostly be uncontrollable to him.
