Seeing how Tom himself set a curse on Marco with the intention of keeping him from asking Star out despite knowing of the blood moon, no, I don't think he's going to torture Marco or Jackie for getting together.

Most likely he'll try to get closer to Star, at first. When he notices how distraught and heartbroken she is, he might eventually come to the conclusion that he wants Star to be happy and if the price for that is seeing her with someone else, namely Marco, so be it, and try to help that along, as in try to break Marco and Jackie up. Or he might just observe from the side and try to cheer Star up with the hopes that eventually she'll get over Marco and will maybe warm up to him. Dunno.

It's because Jackie's ocean theme is being prominently featured by the show, apparently the crew first planned to emphasise it even more in some eps but decided against it, the ocean theme and the weird eyes clearly set Jackie apart from the rest of the cast and there's some old art of Nefcy's that seems to fit with certain aspects of Jackie and would explain why the ocean elemental thing is pushed so hard with her.

It feels like it can't be a coincidence, like there must be a reason behind it all.

First half of the first season is mostly trash, they were going with a Regular SHow/AT inspired "No Continuity" sort of lulranbumb show direction. Halfway through they start to give structure and dole out tidbits of deepest lore. The season finale is honestly pretty good and sets up for the next season nicely (unanswered questions but most plot threads wrapped up).

Season two starts with some solid establishment, including a much needed character makeover, and continues with some decent continuity and world-building (though there are some dud episodes along the way, be warned).

The recent ship hype is due to the last episode featuring the first relationship heavy focus and the emotional torture of a usually very emotionally ... strong? ... character in a way that is extremely compelling.

There is definitely an overarching plot but it doesn't become obvious until over halfway through Season 1 (specifically, the second segment of the 8th episode). However, later on you can see how the earlier episodes do play into it. There are some episodes which just contribute to worldbuilding or are filler though (most episodes have two distinct segments), but the continuity is strong and there's some character development across the series.

There's not a lot of relationship stuff. Only the last episode was really obvious about it, but there was also plot stuff that happened that /co/, being a bunch of shipperfags, mostly ignored.

"Star Vs. has no plot" is basically a reputation that applied to the first few episodes because fans didn't no better, and unfortunately it still has it even though the show now is very different from how it began.

I'd say check it out; maybe skip around a bit because the first few episodes aren't representative of the entire show.
