Only one more issue of Detective Comics to go. Then I'm going to cap off Dick's tenure as Batman with Gates of Gotham before switching to New52 Bruce with Zero Year.
>>87800561
Yer a faggot, OP.
Starting this thread on campus so I would appreciate a bump while I traverse back to my apartment. Forewarning, it's cold as balls outside.
>>87800569
I disagree but glad you're here.
Dickbats>Brucebats
Are you going to be doing Batman Eternal?
>>87800561
didn't zero year have a lot of references to the previous arcs?
>>87800632
No Problem
>>87801021
I'm willing to do Snyder Bats in chronological order, meaning Year Zero would follow Death of the Family.
>>87801004
After Zero Year and before Endgame
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Jr. is a little turd.
Plot twist.
It's a consistent theme that Dick smiling gives away he's not the original Batman.
Gotta love the long game.
Are you going to do all of Death of the Family or just the main parts written by Snyder? As I recall it was a pretty expansive bat-book crossover.
Still in the game. Never take your eyes off your opponent.
EAT SHIT JR!
Shit shit shit shit shit
Dick and Babara forever
Ain't getting away that easy.
Amazing callback to Year One.
>>87801332
This Detective run has got me thinking, Dick and Babs being close as kids is entirely a ret-con that's never been portrayed in any actual comics besides a few one-off flashbacks. And then Snyder went and added psycho James Jr. to the mythos of their childhood. DC should consider doing an actual ongoing or maybe just a mini-series about teenage Barbara-Batgirl and Dick-Robin hanging out and fighting crime during Batman's early years.
Wonder if this is every going to be picked up.
>>87801987
Bump
Starting Gates of Gotham, unofficially Dick Grayson's last adventure as Batman
I know it can be grating at times, but I enjoy that Snyder has fleshed out the history of Gotham just as much as he would any of his other characters.
Becoming more like Bruce with each passing moment.
>>87801307
Awesome, thanks bruv. I only found about half of the issues on torrenting sites
Not sure if it happened before but openly expressed that he knows this isn't "his" Batman.
where were you when James Jr officially became the most menacing and effective bat-villain
Peeps reading along?
One of the seldom moments where Tim and Damien are getting along.
>>87804625
this
>>87804653
Glad to have you aboard. If I remember correctly you've been here since the first Multiversity thread.
>>87804682
No problem. Glad
Final issue of Gates of Gotham, which will conclude Dick's tenure as Batman and reverting to his previous persona Nightwing.
They make a cute couple. Shame it never went anywhere.
I know I'm getting a bit ahead of myself, but when I finish the Snyder epic should I go with Smallville Season 11 (all story arcs) or the Legends of the
>>87805105
Meant to say Smallville Season 11 or Legends of the Dark Knight (Vol.1-5)?
>>87805162
Sure Smallville
>>87805224
Done. I'll begin storytiming Superman Epic's and I'll start with Brian Q Miller's Smallville Season 11.
In the meantime, the first real introduction to the New52 version of Batman.
>>87805280
Cool
>>87804625
yeah
I feel like starting stories with expositional captions is Snyder's "shtick".
I love all the makeshift costumes.
I'm glad Snyder remembers that Jr. Turdsandwhich is still around.
It's interesting to view how Capullo's rendition of the Joker always suits the story context.
>>87805414Even Simone Remembers
It's weird thinking that the majority of Batman's pre52 stories are carried into the new Batman series. The catch is that all of the prior stories took place in the space of 5 years as opposed to over a decade (I think).
I like that this mask was originates from Detective Comics.
I do't understand these height disparities. Is this actually how they stack up? Is it a perspective issue?
>>87805475
I love that they included the Burton Batmobile and Batman Reborn Batmobile.
>>87805458
Stupid sexy Gordon. I feel like he's only slightly past his prime right now. Comparable Gordon in Year One.
>>87805527
that's how it should be but they are barely consistent on how they draw them
Awesome page.
Total Seven vibe from this page.
I wonder what it means.
TRAITOR!
>>87805627
Does that mean Grayson was a short Batman or is Bruce freakishly tall?
I didn't care for Snyder's batman but theCourt of Owlswas pretty lit.
I like this expostion.
Awesome.
>>87805728
I find that it gets better with more rerreads. Or that's how it worked for me. I try to see it as a series of tales incorporating a seasoned Bruce that is overconfident to an unhealthy degree and doesn't comprehend he's in entirely new territory (for every major story arc actually) which forces him to adapt and change.
Very enjoyable take on an owl themed assassin's outfit.
I get a kick out of watching Bruce Wayne actively hold back whenever he's engaged in combat. Reminds me of the opening to Arkham City where you pummel the Penguin's face in right when you arrive.
LIke the payoff from the beginning exposition.
>>87805431
>Clayface calling anyone a turncoat.
>>87806075
I'm personally happy for the change. Makes for a more compelling character.
>>87805721
according to the DC Encyclopedia Bruce is 6'2'' and Dick 5'10'' but that was all pre Nu-52 so who knows
>>87806151
I'm 6'2'' and half meaning I'm taller than Batman. I don't feel like that's true. I can't imagine matching heights with Batman..
Did they drag him into the hole or did they go above ground and kidnap him?
I enjoy the fact that Gotham has an assortment of gang factions with their own "gimmick".
I love creepy cults.
>court of owls
Nice.
Dick always knows exactly how to lighten the mood.
I'm not try to imply anything, but you are a boy with zero years of detective experience trying to uncover the most powerful secret society in Gotham. Just saying.
>>87806347
Liked how they brought the gang back and the demons or something during Gordon's time as Batman
I feel like the rhyme was better adapted in Batman vs. Robin (but I could be mistaken).
Bruce you really really really misjudged the situation on this one.
And thus draws a close to the second Snyder thread. I hope that everyone has enjoyed these Bat Epics as much as I have.
I plan on picking up around 6:30-7:30 tomorrow. As an unintended surprise, we get to start the next thread with one of the stronger issues out of Snyder's entire run. I think it was nominated for an issue of the year (or at least I think it was a strong contender).
Also can anyone clarify this order?
1.Court of Owls.
2. City of Owls.
3. Batman: Annual 1
4. Death of the Family
5. Batman #18-20 (Assorted Issues)
6. Batman #0
7. Zero Year
8. Batman Annual #2
9. Batman #34
10. Batman Eternal
11. Batman #35-37 (Endgame Pt. 1)
12. Batman Annual #3
13. Batman #38-40 (Endgame Pt. 2)
14. Batman & Robin Eternal
15. Batman Annual #4
16. Batman Future's End
17. Batman #41-52
18. All Star Batman because why the hell not. It's the literal definition of wild ride.
If I left out anything or need to change anything please let me know.
Thanks OP
thanks OP, really loving these storytimes
Also in the meantime can we discuss how the multiple iterations of Batman differ from one another? I think my favorite iteration of Batman is the Arkham Universe which incorporates influences and characteristics from multiple different sources (DCAU, PreNew52, and how it compares with Earth-31 (Miller) and Earth--0 (New52) and aspects of Nolan's Joker with regard to absolute viciousness.
His portrayal in Arkham Origins is by far my favorite and it mirrors the Nolan verse by having Joker start out as antagonistic towards Batman and then slowly becoming more and more fascinated bordering on obsessed by the end of it., Another fatnastic portrayal was Bane. Arkham Origins found a way to explain his characterization in Asylum and City while still paying a helthy amount of respect to his dixon appearnce. Fucking love Arkham Verse
>>87807325
Thanks
Snyderverse Batman
>Young with a wealth of experience under his belt (due to compressed timeline).
>Extraordinarily knowledgeable of Gotham's folklore.
>Overconfident to the point of self-destructive. In some instances he does bring his A-Game but he's far from infallible.
>More self reliant than previous incarnations. Even when Dick was Batman he openly welcomed assistance from Time whenever he offered. Here Bruce pushes everyone away like an arrogant asshole.
>Greatest arsenal of Bat Gadgets compared to all others (exception being Beyond Batman).
>>87808170
Should have phrased it New52 Verse. Don't want to be confused with DCEU Snyder Verse.
DCEU Batman
>Has been established as having a career decades long placing his age at around 45-50.
>Easily the most physically intimidating and overall violent Batman since Miller version. This feels like a Batman that could beat you to death with minimal effort but not before shattering your collarbone and throwing a two pound hunk of metal into skin..
>Due to prior tragedy (death of Robin and Black Zero event) this Batman has abandoned the no kill rule and employs lethal force with minimal pause. This may be changing with upcoming movie.
>He also shares extreme paranoia which was prevalent in Morrison's characterization.
>Uses voice modulator rather than natural modulation (Keaton, Kilmer, Bale).
>His Alfred wouldn't leave him unlike Nolanverse.
>Looks to be spearheading the creation of the Justice League.
>>87807325
Thanks OP. You're great and doing excellent work.
Capullo's art is worth the price of admission alone
King writes a better batman.
So in that one Zero Year issue with the flash back to the desert, was that ever explained what the importance of it was.
I can't remember if it ever was, but do remember reading it was part of something according to synder
Snyder's was one of my favorite runs, despite some of his annoying quirks.
>>87805394
is that the flamingo in the back left?
>>87805576
>alfred has a higher clearance than any of them
nice
>>87811554
King hasn't even written a proper Batman for more than 5 pages.
>>87807868
Batham also felt like a weird mix between animated and super realistic Batman. Not really a fan of the world.
>>87807325
Zero Year is in a weird places due to nu52 time skips. May not be enitely coherent
>>87801957
I've wanted that for years. More than anything. Revisit the early years from Robin's eyes. Bruce as a young man still leaning in to the playboy womanizer stereotype. Joker in his non-lethal phase. Arcs with Bette and Kathy, or Barbara.
>>87807868
>>87813999
I really liked the combination, I would like to see more of it.
>>87801957
That sounds fantastic and I'm surprised it hasn't been done yet.
>>87802007
The lingering implications of the plot are more threatening when they linger imo. If they did decide to do something with the psycho-babies, I guarantee it wouldn't be nearly as unsettling as not knowing if James really did poison the formula or not.
My head-canon is that James didn't poison the formula and possibly never even planned to - the whole rhetoric of wanting to make more psychos and improve the human race doesn't make sense if you care only for yourself, for example. I think James lied to Dick and Gordon for the same reason that he did everything - to fuck with them. This dark moment at the end of the story where Dick and Gordon think about psycho-babies and how absolutely fucked Gotham is is what Jr. wanted.
I feel like this notion is telegraphed even, by the Joker lie he tells Barbara. It sounds dark and savage and like it could be true, but it's not. It's entire purpose is to hurt Barbara by playing with her mind, seeking out and attacking her areas of weakness, like a prion
>>87801963
Does Jim know Dick is Bats?
>>87816536
I think Jim knows the identity of all Batman, he's just not turning that rock over. There's another couple of hints Snyder presents near the end of his run where it's all but stated Jim knows.
>>87800561
Stop after Court of Owls. Dont spread Snyderbats cancer. Its best left forgotten.
>>87816619
>>87816619
No can do Slurms. We're in it for the long haul.

>>87816778

Eh. You're a dying breed as long as King is on Batman churning out mediocre to dogshit scipts.

King > Snyder
Me > (You)
>>87818082
Can't we just agree they both do certain things well and certain things poorly?
>>87818822
Not that guy but no. What you liked about Snyder's run was the art. Not anything Snyder wrote because Snyder was terrible and mischaracterized everyone and refused to use the Batfamily.
>>87819037
>and refused to use the Batfamily.
That's a good thing tho.
Go read their books if you want to read about those characters
>>87819037
I like that Snyder instilled a sense of fallibility into his Bruce that although produced more controversy from fans, was an ultimately more human take on the character than we saw in Morrison's saga. Many of your other complains are valid though.
>>87819099
No thats a bad thing and makes 0 sense and completely ruins all of the Batbooks cause its like oh hey why arent they interacting, why does Bruce hate his family?
If Snyder wanted to do that he should have wrote an elseworld and if you think "Batman should work alone" you are a pleb who probably got into comics cause he saw the movies. Batman's family is his biggest strength.
>>87819151
Except Snyder's Batman didn't work alone, I am sorry you are upset Nightwing, Red Robin, Robin, Batgirl, Red Hood etc. weren't always present
Alfred, Gordon etc. were there and it was enough
>>87819217
Alfred and Gordon make sense for a beginning Batman, which would have worked in an elseworld.
Lets stop beating around the bush. Snyder claimed to hate the Batfamily then tried to create his own OC family with Harper and Duke. He blatantly ignored and shit on the established Batfamily at every turn and had no idea how to write Bruce. He writes Bruce like Dick but more autistic. Just admit Snyder and maybe Morrison's were your first run and be done with it.
>>87811554
King writes a better Gordon and Alfred than his Batman, desu.
>>87819313
>le sarcastic meme character that is there just to deliver funny lines
nah, Snyder's Alfred is an actual character with his own motivations and character
>>87819313
Imagine GordonBats written by King.
>>87819353
Youre a fucking casual dude. Seriously man Kings is how Alfred is suppose to act and is classic Alfred. Snyder just completely mischaracterized everyone and now all the new readers are confused and thinks those are the "true" personalities.
>>87819403
>Alfred is supposed to be a snarky asshole with no other quality
>classic characterization
Yeah, try harder next time. You can hope to fool people that don't know anything about Batman but not the ones that actually have read it.
>>87819451
No Alfred is suppose to constantly be tongue in cheek about everything Bruce is doing cause he still seed him as the little boy he raised whilst being loving and caring just like King's. And ONeil's. And Dixons. And Morrisons.
>>87805078
Holy shit Dick, was that much force really necessary?
>>87806569
Love this cover and the inverse one that comes later
>>87821200
Dick didn't want to chance it.
>>87821352
Never noticed before.
>>87806780
It might just be the way this Batman is written but feels like Snyder really likes writing Dick.
Then again, being the guy that will define the New 52 Batman must have been a lot of pressure so he was probably more familiar with Dick at the time.
BumP?
