Now that we've had issues from all 4 titles, how would you rank the Young Animal books? I think all are worth reading, but I'd rank them like this:
Shade > Mother Panic > Doom Patrol > Cave Carson
I was surprised at how this turned out, as Shade and Mother Panic were the ones that I'd been less interested in when they were first announced.
Which other characters would you like to see in their own Young Animal book? I'd like to see them do a Slam Bradley crime series.

>Mother Panic
It's like a shittier edgier Batwoman

I haven't read or even heard about Mother Panic, but I've enjoyed the other 3. I'd probably put Doom Patrol as my favorite at the moment.

It has the tone and art style of a crime comic, and that's a genre that I'm partial to.

Here's the archived storytime of issue #1:

Oh, it's about Gotham? Well, I'll give it a try anyway.
You're entitled to your opinion, but I fucking loved Cave Carson. I was taken immediately with the first issue and the song Way created for it added another layer in my opinion. For me it goes
Cave > Doom=Shade > Panic
I really want to see something happen with Brother Power or Detective Chimp.
I want post-apocalyptic Conan with Hercules Unbound.

It's largely the art style that bumped Cave down the list for me. The rest of the book seems solid, and that Scioli backup was great.
Doom Patrol is a ride with every issue.
Cave Carson seems like a slow burn, so I'll wait a few issues before passing judgment on it.
Haven't read Shade.
Mother Panic has nothing interesting. I read it hoping it would show Gotham more, but not yet at least.

Well I tried it out and I like it, but it's definitely the weakest of the four for me. I will give it credit for doing a story that feels like a classic Batman tale with a weird twist, ironically setting it far apart from Modern Batman stories, but it's still a straightforward superhero-detective tale and the others offer more than that.
Doom Patrol > Super Powers Backup > Shade > Cave Carson > Mother Panic/MP Backup
I'm loving them all except MP, but I'm still digging it and I expect it to pick up.
Doom Patrol's first issues didn't wow me either.
Cave would be higher, but I've never cared much for Oeming's art.

These are basically the reasons why I enjoyed it. It's definitely more conventional than I expected given the other YA books, but it turns out it's providing the type of Batbook that DC haven't been doing lately.
DP > Cave > Shade > MP
Every issue so far has great. I don't want to throw too much praise at these while it's still so early in their runs, but this is the most excited I've been to buy monthly floppies in a long time.

I love how Shade is basically Mean Girls with trippy art
