It feels way too Batwoman for a YA title for me. The MC, her background, even the creepy-kooky vibes of the plot. I guess the mother thing is a distinctive angle and I'm interested in that and interested enough in this to keep reading for now. The art is of course gorgeous.

This just isn't as well written as the others from Young Animal. Pretty disappointing.

It's schizophrenic. It isn't very interesting, though. I get WHY they did it, but I wish it was presented more traditionally anyway.

The book is presenting things as the protagonist's train of thought. It's jumbled and a little hard to understand at first because she's like her mother and has some form of degenerative mental illness.

It's a good concept but the issue doesn't start or end strong enough to carry the idea.

So basically she's hunting down a guy that deals with art made out of human bodies. The issue doesn't delve deeply into why she became a vigilante.

Mother Panic is Violet Page, a rich and famous 20-something, why and how she got rich and famous not revealed yet. Her dad died under some mysterious circumstances 15 years ago, and her mom is schizophrenic, which can be inherited. She likes to dress up in a costume and beat people up at night, and she seems to be targeting Hemsley, the dude with the glasses and mustache. Hemsley has a piece of art from some crazy lady who makes artworks by mutilating people. He showed it to his bodyguard, then tried to kill the bodyguard before he could tell anyone. Also Hemsley's piece of art seems to involve kids and from the bodyguard's words those kids could still be alive. In the last page it seems Mother Panic is less interesting in bringing in Hemsley for some crime and more interested in dirt she can use as part of a personal vendetta.

I don't know if I'm feeling this one. Am I supposed to not like the protagonist or something, because she's completely unlikable.

I understand what they were trying to do with the whole jumbled mental illness thing, but it really just made the book hard to read and keep up with. I'll give it another couple of issues, but it didn't grab me like the other Young Animal books did.
