We're back - bit later than I said it'd be, sorry.
"Empowered" is Adam Warren's ongoing graphic novel series following the adventures of the titular (insecure) superheroine. Expect laughs, satire of the superhero genre, and drama out of left field.
Oh, and a bit of bondage.
Feel free to comment and respond as much as you like - discussion is what makes a storytime fun, after all. If it goes for a while without anyone other than me posting, a bump would obviously be appreciated.
Last time, things got a little heavy. The volume culminated in Willy Pete incinerating a dozen-odd capes, before funnelling his superheated powers through a portal to the orbiting superhero space station. Emp got out, but Mindfuck wasn't so lucky. RIP.
Still, after all that and what went down in Volume 4, it's a pretty safe bet that this volume will be back to a much lighter tone.
Right?

I have all the volumes released so far, but the longer the series goes on, the longer it takes for each release.
It's at the point now that I might just stop buying them. Adam Warren takes so long for each release that I wind up nearly forgetting the series exists. Plus the fact he has to have a character acknowledging, commenting, or explaining most of the jokes is tiring.
I love the series, but my interest cools in the time it takes Adam Warren. The next book not coming out until Summer 2017? Eat a dick, Warren.

The infernal beings hide that it's an infernal bargain from the heroes themselves a solid chunk of the time. If there IS a physical body under the flames, it would have to be much smaller than the man-shape we can see, or shaped very differently. Otherwise those injuries would have affected it. A child or child-sized creature suspended in the middle of the 'torso' of the man on fire, perhaps?
Of course, the evidence we see can't rule out something REALLY weird, like he could ALSO have a physical body with a high-speed healing factor and is on fire, such that his regeneration is faster than the rate at which the flames consume him, and which allow him to heal instantly from severed limbs and headshots.

Seriously though, I don't think Havoc was actually taking the situation as lightly as his words suggested. He put together a 10 man team for this, which is higher than the number the Superhomies usually fields (compare 5 for the The Star-Striding Savant, 4 for the Crimera). He also brought along at least one guy who could nullify fire.
I'd say the biggest problems were that he assumed WP would appear no EARLIER than the time Spooky gave, and that WP couldn't attack instantly upon appearance and hit them all hard enough to prevent them from counterattacking. They could have anticipated these things, had Thugboy told them 1) Willy Pete claimed his penis is hotter'n the surface of the sun, and 2) he observed Willy Pete erupting in an explosion that was like 7 stories tall and destroyed the building he was in.

I'll grant you, he has plenty of reasons not to be forthcoming with "fucking capes," but endangering the Homeys that way would've meant endangering Emp, too (which uh, happened anyway). It's that, or Havoc is someone who really doesn't give a shit that somebody can blow up a whole building. Otherwise, why have your team inside or anywhere near the EXACT FUCKING BUILDING you expect the bad guy to appear in?

Someone in a previous thread posited that idea about Thugboy's old unit too, with the addition that maybe the only reason Willy Pete let him escape at all is becauseif WP's an artifical sentience connected to these guys, even he isn't sure he'll still exist if the last Witless Minion goes bye-bye.

There were a couple of burning supers in the capey awards (The bride, and the super waiter, iirc) so it's definitely a "thing" in the empverse, and Thugboy did survive his brush with WP so they had reasonable expectations. Havok, Robotomy and Turbobrain could've reasonably expected to stand up to a fire based villain too

Yeah, I do think that Thugboy withheld useful info on WP. I don't think he did it intentionally, mind you, cause he was clearly traumatized (who wouldn't be?) by viewing the skullfucking, and that's what he focused on. Plus Emp's 'exposure' to WP consisted of Anglerfish sobbing and wailing about his raped-and-eaten son. So between them, some tactically-important useful information got left out. Hence, bad intel.
Of course, if the theory IS true that Thugboy is unknowingly Willy Pete or part of his kludge mind or whatever, then it's likely that he was subconsciously holding back details to protect WP.
