Flash's costume doesn't look THAT bad, better than Injustice at least, just needs some CGI lighting running thru it or making the Flash symbol flash, the helmet is fucked up and looks like a xenomorph. And DAMN Wondie and Aqua look good, Wondie's costume is better than anything she's used during New52, nevermind her awful Rebirth and DCYou costumes.

You're dumb as shit if you think you can get the kind of flow and billow Superman's cape shows in the comic easily. You'd probably be going through hours of footage waiting for it to blow just like you want to get the right shot.

Memes aside, I'm really impressed by how practical things were.
Yeah, there was a lot of green screen, but also people actually doing stunts.
Like they didn't need to have Batman actually be a stuntman pulled across a simple gap.
It would have been easy to just have a CGI Batman do it.

Also, I'm glad that Momoa's career is doing well. He was fun on Stargate: Atlantis. You could see his acting develop over the years.

I constantly get the feeling that most people defending the DCEU are doing so just because they like the comics

I like MoS and BvS, and i like plenty of MCU movies.

Funny that you mention console wars and then disregard any divergent opinion of these movies as pure contrarianism.
>>
>>86804511

>Its because Snyder wanted to jack off to DKR and WB is run by incompetent retards that just say "okay, whatever you want Zack"

Explain to me how you can have a Bat-Family without a veteran Batman.
>>
Nice to see more of Momoa is costume. Also I really like that they are giving him his trident from the get go in this movie.

The Batman costume in the elevator has me wondering something: Exactly when does Batfleck switch out from using the old BvS suit? That elevator shot implies it's later in the movie when all of them minus Superman have been gathered together.
>>
>>86804246
If it gets bad reviews like the predecessors, no way they're getting my money, no matter how hard the "b-but you gotta judge for yourself" crowd screams about it. The only repercussions these companies can face is making less money than expected, and i feel like such "punishment" is already deserved with BvS and SS. MoS is the only of the three i can't say i regret spending money for, although it was still a far cry from the "kino" it's hardcore fans like to claim it was

But who am i kidding, I'll most likely go see it anyway, especially because my younger brothers will want me to accompany them. For the cheapest ticket of course, but it's still money. Thing is, these movies are too big to fail. I may hate every single person involved in the production, but it's the fucking Justice League on the big screen! Curiosity is inevitable, and unfortunately as a comics fan I'm the metaphorical cat

If you look at the shoulders in the elevator scene, it looks like there's additional armor patching. So he's probably going to wear his new standard suit right away. The tactical suit with additional armor is going to be worn in the climax since he'll need the extra gear to survive Parademons and such.
>>

To be fair, we don't really know about that.
Dick might be off Nightwing-ing somewhere and Barbara may be Oracle.

Yes, it could go either way.

In my understanding they made Batman a veteran for two reasons:

They can add the Bat-Family as they're in the comics, something that you can do with a novice Batman. So there's a possibility for Nightwing, Oracle, Red Hood, whatever.

They can make a few Batman solo movies that take place in the past and have no meta-humans to disrupt the gritty style Batman's movies are know for. So you can have solo Batman movies where he's getting beaten by normal muggers without the constant thought of "Why don't he just call his girlfriend Wonder Woman to save his ass?"

That's my understanding, at least.

I'll agree with those and add that this way, with a more experienced, established Batman, there's no need to retread over the things previous movies did, like the first appearances of certain characters.

This way we can jump straight into a developed world with history and make full use of the mythos.

After Returns, I was cautiously optimistic about MoS. I was skeptical about BvS. I have almost nothing for this. No hope. No interest. Just a curiosity to see how bad of a trainwreck the final product will be. After MoS I hoped they'd turn things around in BvS, and all they did there was double down on everything I didn't like about MoS. I'm not letting myself believe Justice League will be anything more than more of what we've already seen, because at this point its just an illogical thing to do.
Thank you Zack. You were so fixated on making super serious adult capekino that you've made someone who grew up loving the Justice League not give a shit when WB finally decided to make a live action movie about it. Somehow I think everyone who ever told me that comic books are for kids and that I should outgrow them would buy you a beer for the service you've done them.

Just the opposite. That's actually the reason I *attack* the DCEU so much.

Yeah, and I don't think Elseworlds would make for good movies. At least not as a foundation for a franchise. Although I guess the Flashpoint Paradox was technically an Elseworlds and that was okay. But it was a standalone.
I don't scream "Not muh". It's you screaming it at me. And I'm pretty sure you've never read an Elseworlds either because DCEU guys always try and have it both ways. "It's really Superman just not your campy version" one breath, "It's an Elseworlds it's okay to be different!" in the next. It's different! It's not! It's the same! Snyder gets it! He's breaking the mold and being different! Stop being afraid of change!

The issue being is that because movies reach a much larger audience than comics ever will, they will go on to inform people's understand of the characters in a pop culture way.

I love a lot of Elseworlds stories but if the first Superman movie in 30 years was Red Son I'd be mighty upset because then most people would see Superman as a Communist who took over the world. Elseworlds only work because you have the baseline to compare and contrast it to, they let you delve into the character more but you need the basis for that to be functional.
>>
>>86808994
Then they have to explain who he is but then they also have to instantly explain Jason because audiences will go "But I thought Robin died" and so they'll have to say "Not THAT robin, the OTHER Robin" Neither of which we felt it was necessary to show actually being Robin before just now".
I can totally see WB doing that. I just think it's a lazy way to go about it.

Its always been ironic to me how this "It's an Elseworlds" excuse gets trotted out so much when I noticed pretty early on that BvS shares a lot of plot points with an Elseworlds where Superman literally doesn't exist. Half of the plot points from BvS are basically JLA: The Nail, and somehow I, who supposedly doesn't read comics, am able to pick that out, while these "real fans" haven't ever considered the similarities.

Or maybe they don't really grasp why "This is a world where Superman never existed" isn't a good thing to adapt for "This is how has changed everything by existing."

>>
>>86809008
This guy knows whats up. I remember when Man of Steel was announced how Snyder and WB told everyone that this wasn't going to be a different take on "Superman." It was just going to be a the world we know with a tiny change that butterfly effects all of it. It was going to be a different Superman, from a different Earth, from the same universe where the Superman everyone knows is from. Want to make a Red Son movie? Awesome. That was great. Speeding Bullets? A SuperBatman would literally print money. Stop with the Elseworld defense already, because the thing that makes Elseworlds Elseworlds isn't present in the DCEU. It's just shitty. If the same world and plot was written as a comic, we'd call it shit, but since its a movie you clowns feel obligated to like it, and defend it with the same logic as those who try to say that the SW prequels actually aren't shit, and are actually better than the OT. Every time you guys unironically defends these movies, I hear it as "Jar Jar is the best thing that happened to Star Wars."

Correct. That's the point of Elseworlds. If you have an amazing story about a Superman that's lost his superpowers and is now a meth addicted jazz critic in Boston trying to get by then it can be made. Just like angel Supergirl, Civil War Superman, Apolokips Superman, nuclear holocaust Superman, sports superstar turned businessman Superman, blacksmith turned knight Superman who makes armor out of his spaceship, Green Lantern Superman, Frankenstein's monster Superman, Batman Superman, Tarzan Superman, and British Superman. Adaptations by their very nature of adapting a source material and taking what they like and altering thing, are Elseworlds. They don't have to be like anything.
>>

All movies are inherently Elseworlds. Plus, by holding this you're saying all MCU movies are bad.

I've seen many people say that the DCEU is bad because they deviate from the characters but that the MCU can do it "because the movies are good." That's contradictory because if what MAKES the DCEU films bad is deviation from characters then how can the MCU be good if that's what they do too?
>>
>>86809536
And as little asides they work. I agree to that.
I don't agree that they work as the only big budget movies we're going to get. I don't agree they work as a "main" thing. I don't think Elseworlds work without a more standard universe to be "Else" from.

Elseworlds are great and all, but they're a side dish, not an entree.

I'm fine with that as long as it's done in the Batman movie. There are a couple of ways it could work.

The fact that you keep trying to say I am from /tv/ is hilarious to me beyond words considering I've been reading comics for decades and can tell you straight up Supes has killed aliens and monsters and Batman has inadvertently killed criminal goons plenty of times. Its hilarious to me that the most casual of faggots that have maybe been reading since the early 2000s are the ones that constantly scream that Superman and Batman shouldn't act different than what they grew up with. You are a child, educate yourself and stop thinking your Batman and Superman are THE Batman and Superman. >Plus, by holding this you're saying all MCU movies are bad.
Nobody was talking about the MCU.
It's always you guys that bring it up too. What's with that?
I mean, I can attempt to answer your question though. I think the problem is threefold.

1. People care about DC characters. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, they're bigger names and identities than anyone the MCU is able to use. The closest Marvel character in general to them is Spider-man, and there's tons of "Sony fucked this up" going as far back as the first Raimi movie.
It's a little silly to expect the S tier guys like Superman to get the same lack of a response to major changes as a C list guy like Iron Man.

2. For the most part, while it is broad strokes, MCU fans that are also fans of the comics *may* (I can't speak for any of them since, believe it or not, I'm actually not a Marvel fan first and foremost) feel that the spirit of the characters is preserved even if the

3. Just as "It's not the same as the comics" isn't a value judgement in of itself. "It's an Elseworlds" is NOT a defense in of itself. Because there are good Elseworlds, and bad ones. And not even the good ones are necessarily good for a movie. Red Son? Generally regarded as a good Elseworlds. But would it make for a good franchise of dozens of movies? Maybe not. If you think for a second they could do an entire DCEU based on Created Equal and not be laughed out off theaters, then you're probably insane. Even if I'd like to see Gadot toting around a big jar of jizz just for novelty's sake. You couldn't start a universe on Act of God.

Elseworlds are a GIMMICK. There's a reason almost all of them run for like three issues at the absolute most.
>>
>>86809639
JMS just doesn't do good capes man. His WW run was best forgotten too. Spider-man Other was fucking ridiculous. >casual casual
isn't going to make shit comics good.
>>
>>86809659
Apples and Oranges. RED, MIB, a lot of that stuff is single stories and not something they're trying to turn into a huge interconnected universe.

>>86809771
Not that Earth One. Superman Earth One.
The one where he's basically Peter Parker and his costume is vacuum sealed.
>>
>>86809794
>Because there are good Elseworlds, and bad ones. And not even the good ones are necessarily good for a movie.
The very first non-comic book adaptation for any superhero was for Superman. It had him flying while comic book Superman just jumped really, really far. It also introduced yet uncreated characters Perry White and Jimmy Olsen. Yes, adaptations by their very nature are Elseworlds. And yes, they're fine to start off anything.
>>
>>86809865
>Well yeah, vastly different takes to start those franchises are fine but it's really stupid to do vastly different takes to start a franchise.
>>
>>86809865
>Not that Earth One. Superman Earth One.

Oh alright, now I can kinda agree with you a little more, I just saw "Earth-One" and jumped the gun assuming it was like all the recent Anti-Johns shitposting. My bad dude.

I still don't know if I'd call Superman Earth-One "shit" as much as I'd call it "disappointing" and I feel bad for Straczynski if that was the best story he could come up with, being a big Supes fan himself.
>>
>>86809883
>It had him flying while comic book Superman just jumped really, really far.
That's actually not true. Superman's flying came about as a result of the Fleischer cartoons. He started out in those jumping really high and doing the whole "leaps tall buildings" thing for the first few shorts, but then that got changed to flight as a cost saving measure.
The groundwork was still there.
Also Perry White and Jimmy Olsen were creations of the radio show.

NONE of these things you're listing qualify as elements that would denote an Elseworlds. There's adaptation expansion, certainly, as well as and refinement distillation of core elements, but the underlying DNA is the same. The basic origins are the same.
An Elseworlds is denoted by a major underlying shift. "Superman landed in another place (The Nail, Red Son)" or "The ENTIRE universe takes place entire generations earlier (Gaslight, Age of Wonder, Shogun of Steel)" or "This huge sweeping change effected the entire universe (Act of God, Created Equel). Little changes like flight instead of jumping aren't even remotely the same thing and it's enough of a false equivalency that I have to assume you actually realize that.

And that's kind of my problem. The DCEU is in an uncanny valley of sorts; too different from the standard to be familiar, not different *enough* to be charming for its novelty.
>>
>>86809933
Yeah sorry. I thought that was clear when I said they'd started the universe on it. Man of Steel was the start of the DCEU.

And I dunno JMS was already on my shitlist because of The Other. Nothing good came out of that story either.
>>
>>86809794
>It's always you guys that bring it up too. What's with that?
Because it's hypocritical to only criticize the DCEU for doing it. I never see these arguments in MCU threads, why do people insist on coming here?

The "Elseworlds" defense boils down to this: having slight changes in the universe is inconsequential to quality. The movies are good even though they aren't 1:1 adaptations. Understanding Elseworlds helps people to get that, which is why a casual fan should be directed to the concept of Elseworlds to show that good characters put in different situations can still make for good stories, which is what Snyder did.
>>
Honestly I'd call Man of Steel a perfect movie if they hadn't fucked up Pa Kent.

If Pa urged Clark to help people and they didn't have that retarded tornado scene, or Clark saved him despite the tornado, it'd be a solid 9/10 movie.

Clark needed more dialogue and the filters in the movie were ugly as shit but the main issue with that movie was Pa. When you fuck up the thing that makes Clark Superman, it doesn't bode well.

Hell I didn't even have a problem with a lot of the changes in those films so far, but there's a difference when you change something that affects the fundamentals of a character.
>>
>>86810072

>I never see these arguments in MCU threads

As much as I think it'd be cool for Diana to be taller than the rest of the league, it's simply not something artists or writers portray her as a lot of the time.

As annoyed as I was about Eisenberg Lex they at least made him look like Teen Lex in Secret Origin. I got over his looks. It was his shit acting and writing that made him annoying. Wonder Woman looks fucking fine, she looks better than the majority of attempts at adaptations. Its her acting that needs to be good in the next few movies.

Going through the effort to craft a Kryptonite spear and set up such an elaborate way to take down someone is not the same as beating up a couple of goons in a warehouse.

The Martha scene is used to take Bruce out of the rage he's been in ever since he set his eyes on Superman and feeling powerless. The movie is about Bruce not seeing Superman as a human, but a powerful alien threat who could burn the whole place down, but then he sees Superman for who he really is, just a man with a mother. A boy who is going to lose his mother, he sees himself - which is a theme throughout the movie, such as when he saves the little girl in the beginning and immediately asks where her mother is; he sees a lonely child who just lost their mother, again projecting himself onto her.

Then there's the whole getting PTSD by hearing his mother's name.

Stay stupid, anon.

At the Martha scene which I admit was akwardly executed, Batman remembers why he changed, what was the event that turned Bruce into Batman and we are talking about the Batman after 20 years in Gotham, who has lost hope and was turning into a monster himself. It all started which one loss and it would be the same with superman according to batmans dream.

>she was my world and you took her from me

Then Batman goes and makes sure supermans world doesn't crumble into pieces, at this point Batman relates to superman, nothing less and nothing more. It was way later when superman sacrificed himself to save the world when batman actually gained hope in humanity again.

>men can still be good

which is why Batman didn't brand Lex Luthor. I know it was akwardly/badly executed but the intentions were always clear.

The prequel comic spells also everything out which imo was obvious in the movie anyway. Like that Batman only started being more brutal after Superman arrived.

Yeah because saying "mother" would explain things a whole lot more. Batman was in a state where he didn't think Superman even had a mother. By saying "Martha" he conveys that Lex has kidnapped someone called Martha, with that information, Batman could then go and do some, y'know, detective stuff and figure out what's going on.

He doesn't necessarily murder anyone. He may severely injure them, but it's not an outright pre-meditated manhunt like what he had planned for Superman. He even goes through the effort of disabling all their guns.

Millennials hate "edgelord shit" and complain incessantly about grimderp, whenever everything isn't lighthearted and "fun" 24/7. It's the prior generation, that produced media from the 90s and 80s, who were more tolerant towards that tone: The Matrix, Rambo, World of Darkness, Spawn, Alien, Nightmare On Elm Street, Warhammer, Predator, Blade, Robocop, Terminator. Even the Disney movies from that era were darker.

>Batman could then go and do some, y'know, detective stuff
If this Batman were capable of detective stuff there wouldn't be a conflict to begin with because he'd have found out Clark's secret identity like a week into his search.

Because Lois and Lex know and Detective Batman has got got resources comparable to them, easy. Since he doesn't know, he must not be a detective in this universe. Elseworlds.

But that was during Bruce's frenzy and downward spiral into being a hunter. After finding out about Martha and realising what's happened, putting that aside for the greater good, he's able to track down Martha.

That's what people are complaining about.
The movie spends three hours saying that Bruce is a runaway freight train and then has him stop on a dime. It's paradoxical and kind of gives the impression that there's no characterization beyond what a particular plot point needs.
"Bruce has to be dumb and angry here, so we're gonna have him hulk out." and then "Bruce has to be smart here, so he can have his brain back".

I think you could've made the conflict work, just have Bruce be cold and cerebral rather than ignoring his skill set "because mad" whenever it suits the narrative. Have him find out Clark's identity n the first act and start trolling and threatening him. As it is he just kind of jobs to Lex.
>>
>>86811762
I've never been able to keep them straight and I suppose the distinction is academic. It's funny. I like the mute assassin Batgirl, that makes me an edgelord. I hate the angsty Earth One Superman, and that makes me a campfag.

Fuck this shit man. /a/ is looking more attractive every day.

>>86811793
He doesn't *need* to find out Superman's identity though. He knows Supes is Kryptonian and plans accordingly. How would knowing that Superman is Clark Kent actually benefit Bruce? But Bruce falling to Lex's manipulation kind of works to help Lex's character, though. People shit on Eisenberg's Lex but he's the cold manipulator.

>He doesn't *need* to find out Superman's identity though. He knows Supes is Kryptonian and plans accordingly. How would knowing that Superman is Clark Kent actually benefit Bruce?
You're thinking of it using what happened as a result of the product. I'm thinking of it from a fresh start and thinking what would happen as a result of the premise.

Snyder and Terrio say "Bruce doesn't need to know who Clark is for my story to work"

I'm thinking more like, if Bruce is operating on all cylinders, his finding out who Clark is *is inevitable* given how poorly the secret is concealed in this continuity. Ergo, for the conflict to exist (as its resolution is "Clark has a human mother" this means that for Bruce to miss it, he'd have to dedicate his life to killing a guy...but never follow him home, or stake out his hiding places, or do any real or meaningful research.

Bruce is hunting Superman. A good hunter tracks his prey. But Bruce doesn't bother seeing where Superman goes after he flies off. He doesn't do *any* independent research. He gets TOLD about Kryptontie and that's all he has to go on. So what was he even doing for those two years of prep? That's not the mark of a decent detective, at all. A detective, at its most basic level of the concept, is a guy that follows people around and learns shit about them.

I think it's a rig designed to guide him while he skids sideway to a stop. They're basically stop-motioning him as he baby steps through the motion and it'll look like he's sliding as he stops.
The rig can be set for distances (to keep the motion consistent) and height (to keep the post consistent.)

This is literally "why did you say that name?!" If Clark had answered improperly he would have killed him. Luckily Lois was there to clarify. See, your point would have worked if he immediately threw away the spear rather than throwing it away once he realized "Martha" was his mother's name.
