There's something bothering me about the whole "Rose shattered Pink Diamond" thing. The timeline doesn't add up at all.

The rebellion supposedly began with Rose shattering Pink Diamond. All the Gems supporting her joined AFTER that event. It's possible that Pearl was with her or was the first to join her, but the Crystal Gems didn't actually exist before the shattering.

So if that's the case then how was Rose able to shatter Pink Diamond at all? The invention of the Breaking Point by Bismuth was a huge deal and not just because it made shattering Gems compact, it was a big deal because it enabled shattering AT ALL. And yet Rose was supposedly able to shatter Pink Diamond.

Another big problem is that at that point Rose supposedly already had her sword, since Snake Ruby recalls her wielding it. But that sword was designed by Bismuth SPECIFICALLY as a tool that destroys the physical body of a Gem but never the Gem itself. And again, Bismuth presumably created the sword AFTER Rose had shattered Pink.

How is it possible for Rose to shatter Pink Diamond with a sword that never harms the Gem itself, a sword that didn't even EXIST at that point in time?

Nope, it's sort of established that the rebellion was ongoing for a good while already before PD got shattered.

We don't know at what point Bismuth got bubbled, was it before or after Rose shattered PD. But it wasn't at the start of the rebellion.

Bismuth isn't even a gemstone. It's a post transition metal that doesn't even occur in the form we all know and mostly love in nature - it has to be made like that.

Why is Bismuth even in the show? How did she take a "nice lava bath" when bismuth has one of the lowest melting points of any metal? You can melt it on your kitchen stove for crying out loud.

Bismuth is also an extremely brittle metal. How did our Bismuth not shatter or at least crack when she fell onto the floor? Real bismuth would have flaked the fuck out and pieces would have snapped off

There's nothing yet to suggest that Rose shattering Pink Diamond was what started Rose's Rebellion... quite the opposite, in fact.

When Garnet talks about the Crystal Gems in The Answer she describes them as a small, but persistent rebel group that's been annoying Homeworld and impeding progress on Earth. If Rose had already shattered PD by that point Homeworld would have probably been taking them much more seriously by that point.


Shattering PD was probably something that happened near the end of the Rebellion.

1) If she shattered her before she poofed Bismuth (which was a few hundred years before the end of the war), Bismuth presumably would have brought it up as an example of Rose being a hypocrite by refusing to use the Breaking Point

2) Using the Corruption Weapon on Earth seems like an impulsive decision - you're not just wiping out your enemies, but potentially thousands of loyal soldiers under your command in the process. Even if the Diamonds are as cold and calculating as YD seems to be, that's not the kind of thing you resort to unless there's a damned good reason for escalating things like that... like say PD being shattered.

3) Killing or capturing your opposition's leader is, historically, the sort of thing that happens near the end of a war or rebellion, not the beginning of it.

But Rose never used the Breaking Point, that weapon was something Rose decided to never to use. And the blade she was using, as was mentioned, was designed not to fracture Gems.

So how DID Rose shatter Pink Diamond?

It's just so strange that Ruby in Bubbled specifically recalls Rose's sword, a sword to which a looot of screen time has been devoted and which still is a major mcguffin in the show. That weapon can't destroy Gems. If Rose had used a different weapon, wouldn't Ruby recall THAT? Wouldn't she remember the Breaking Point?

The question remains- how did Rose shatter Pink Diamond with a weapon that can't shatter Gems?
