Sorry about failing to check in yesterday, I had a surprise visit by a friend.
This little "The Twelve" sub-plot won't be resolved until much, much later, and by then I'm not even sure if it's even the same plot.
>No, I meant "The, mutants. The"
>I swear I'm not crazy! I mean, yes I am hearing voices and seeing things, but other than that I'm not crazy!
>Wait, so you're married and you keep a sexy picture of ANOTHER woman?
I can happily say I've never had the displeasure of tasting burnt popcorn.
Scott loves Maddie! Scott loves Jean! Angel loves Jean! Jay-zus. Is there any wonder why people call X-Men the biggest superhero soap opera?
Oh no, it's Ike Perlmutter!
More Simonsons try to fix X-Factor!
>What are you, anyway?
Uh, definitely not a mutant! No siree, no muties here!
Simonson's Sentinel design with the crown is so cool.
>>85997965
Simonson cyclops is best Cyclops
Oh c'mon, not now Internet.
>>85998344
what's funny is they say that about Claremont.
>>85998421
>>85998491
now this is some fucking Scott ANGST

>What's up, mah muggas?
Exiles Anon hit Claremont Exiles, reminding me why I am not at all a Claremont fan these days.
Welcome back, OP. Bitterness over Yet More Inhuman Bullshit subsided a bit?
This issue is the GOOD SHIT.
>>85998117
You still planning on backtracking to that Hulk annual or whatever it was?
>>85999024
i feel bad for not jumping on that. Exiles should be my shit, like alternate universe adventures!, but something about it.....(same with New X-Men or w/e that kid generation is)
>>85999024
>Welcome back, OP. Bitterness over Yet More Inhuman Bullshit subsided a bit?
Yeah, I'm OK now. At least RESSUR(X)ION (kek) implies something a bit more hopeful, so we'll see.
>>85998169
That joke is evergreen.
>>85999058
Oh, not tonight, sorry. I am tired af after going to a birthday party. Like last time, tomorrow if this thread is still around. I'm 100% free tomorrow so I can definitely deliver this time.
>>85998226
He DID just go through the Mutant Massacre and I'm pretty sure that's the kind of thing that IRL causes PTSD.
>>85998269
Is it cheating if one's a clone of the other?
>>85999136
not to mention Jean everything.
and Sinister has been mind fucking him too for god knows how long now
>>85999069
Exiles is remarkably solid... until Claremont.
>>85999069
It starts out fun but it gets pretty bad later. I'm honestly not sure if it's worth reading at all since you don't get a full story if you quit before the shit hits the fan. I wholeheartedly recommend Parker's Vol 2 though, nice little 6 issue self-contained story. Also, Blink with pigtails

Actaully, I'm pretty sure it is SOMEBODY's fault. The Marauders. (And by extension, Senor Sinestro)
What's the best way to collect Claremont's X-Men work?
>>85999839
The omnis are probably your best bet, although there are some trades that collect different hallmark parts of Claremont's run (Dark Phoenix Saga, Mutant Massacre, etc.)
>>85999930
Whoops
>>85999839
Omnibuses probably which go up to #175. There's an Epic collection that has #189-198. Then an old collection called Ghosts that has #199–209. Then mostly they're collected in Event books Mutant Massacre, Fall of the Mutants, etc etc.
Also old Marvel Masterworks or Essentials (which are b/w)
In theory eventually the Epic collections will have it all.
>You couldn't even save the Angel from the humans' mutilation!
To be fair, like anon said, that's mostly on the Marauders.

Why the hell does even a society of outcasts put up with an asshole like Masque?
so looked up the upcoming X-Men related epic collections. First volumes of New Mutants, Excalibur, X-Force, X-Factor, and the start of Claremont 94-110 plus odds and ends all in first 1/4 of 2017.
also some lee/kirby this December but...
>>86000273

>>86000461
i like this page kinda pointing out they should be teaching at Xaviers which would be the exact same.
>>86000494
i was just making a joke about lee/kirby not being that good. There's also a Wolverine collection that's got Wolverine 133-149 and a Wolverine/Cable mini. They're actually doing a good job of X-stuff, at least with the Epics 5 outta 13 so far in 2017.
>>86000541
I mean destroying the X-line is pretty impressive.
>>86000595

>>86000441

Probably, at least for the purposes of actually reading the actual issues. Omnis have proven to be quite... unwieldy in that regard in the past.
>>86000928
She 'skates' along it like Iceman.Skids and Iceman should both have nice THICC speed skater thighs.
>>86000956
>Masque has the mutant power to turn people into Kirby Golems.
I'm sure this will end well.
>>86000942
probably? imo get marvel unlimited if you wanna read it and buy those to collect and support. (and dl what isn't on unlimited(which is like mid 40s New Mutants, most X-factor at least)) also who knows how long it'll take for the whole run to come out and 20$ a pop or whatever.
also if you google some you can probably find more in depth lists.
i wonder if New Mutants 50 will have reprinting problems because of micronaunts cameos.

So, obviously the Simonson titles crossed over a bit. We didn't read that Thor issue because this is the Great X-MEN Storytime, so I try to stick to X-Titles only, with a few notable, necessary exceptions of course.
Also, that previous page is hella gay.

>>86001458

>>86001576

Well, yeah, that's basically what I meant.
They're new, and genuine faggots for dismissing anything that isn't the biggest name stuff from before they started reading.
KSD is the first female writer Marvel ever hired, etc.
>>86001599
i wonder if it came across as obvious that he's who Apoc has
>>86000404
>Masque
I'm certain Masque will prove very useful sooner or later in some storyline to come.
After all, body reshaping is technically a default healer ability, Mystique uses her cosmetic-alteration powers for espionage rather effectively, Old Blue Hank McCoy could have swallowed his pride and asked for help from Masque at any time over the years, cosmetic alterations aren't the last thing that mutants like Kurt would find useless... at least before "mutant and proud" became a theme...
I can think of lots of mutants that wouldn't mind a makeover. And hell, reshaping a body that had ...say... just had two wings amputated wouldn't have been the most useless power.
>>86001576
Yeah, /co/ is full of newfags too. Mostly /tv/ shitposters though, the actual noobs that are interested in comics tend to keep their traps shut.
>>86001644
Kurt's been Mutant and Proud from like the start
now i wanna storytime that awesome X-Men Classic story with him and Wolverine at the bar.

There's actually a whole backstory where the Morlocks have been manipulated into becoming "us mutants vs them humans" with Masque being the means of making living among the "pretty" humans impossible.

Mutant mortality. It is what it is. Or isn't, as the case may be.
In a way it's kinda comforting that it's not just the X-Men who just won't stay dead.
>>86001326
>the premise for this series is insane.
It's really not that insane. Unsustainable perhaps, but all in all it's just what the X-Men did except they take calls in from asshole Marvel Civvies and charge them a hefty fee for finding them new recruits.
>>86000000
WASTE
>>86005504
Not exactly, the Professor's original idea was that the X-Men be an ongoing publicity stunt where his team mutants are associated with superheroes like the Avengers.
That way the public sees that not every mutant is a monster and that the ones who are will be dealt with by mutantkind's X-Men, in a self-policing function.
However, because Hodge has removed the "good mutant" aspect from the narrative with the X-Factor team, the public now sees it as heroic humans vs. monsterous mutants only.
With a nation-wide advertising campaign to push that negative and confrontational message.
>>86004093
Sorry, I was making a joke because there is a black Cyclops from X-treme X-Men
>>86005021
Masque might not be a transsexual, he or she (?) was originally just really really ugly and ironically couldn't use his or her body altering powers on himself or herself, that's why he or she is such a jerk/beouch.
Then there was a story where Masque somehow inexplicably an (obviously) temporarily gained the ability to use those powers on himorherself, transforming herself into the spitting image of Marilyn Monroe, and then transforming himself into the spitting image of James Dean, etc... etc...
This was, of course, because the writer didn't know the character's backstory, so who knows if that genderbending is going to be treated as canon when Masque isn't even supposed to be able to use those powers that way and was last seen with the ugly face that they don't want.
>>86006376
yeah Xavier's whole thing was showing mutants can help by being heroes and training new mutants to control their powers and live in society.
Pretending to be human and fear mongering is the opposite?
>>86007419
Well, Charles Xavier also lived in the mutant closet pretending to be human.
It wasn't until his evil twin Cassandra Nova outed him in Morrison's 2001 run that he lived openly as a mutant.
But when the world thought he was human he was the world's leading expert on mutants and mutation.
X-Factor is literally doing what their hypocrite idol taught by example, that's probably why they didn't kick Cameron Hodge's ass on day 1.
>>85999839

>Boy, bet you feel bad now, huh, Peni?
Kek
>>86007967
Did you read the letter where they ask if Bobby's going to find himself a girl anytime soon?
BonusKEK!
>>86007376
Claremont created Masque and wrote the story where Masque was suddenly a girl (and alive;the character had been stabbed to death by Cable in liefeld's X-Force run).
It was a clear example of Claremont not giving a flying fuck about other writers work (case in point, the story in question also had Guido reverting back to his dumb humorless thug persona). Especially since not only did Claremont ignore Masque's death/all previous stories involving Masque but implied that Masque had been a girl for quite some time, as far as him showing up as a girl not phasing Storm.
Claremont ATTEMPTED to cover his bullshit with an asspull claiming that he was forced to cut a scene where Masque is explicitly stated as being a tranny/wearing a rubber real doll mask, as well as claiming that Masque could now altering his flesh (since at the time, circa 2000-2006, a lot of mutants were given brand new powers that were handwaved as "secondary mutations"), in violation of what was overtly established as Masque's main motivation for his being evil: that he could only change other peoples faces.
Brubaker eventually used the later when he brought Masque back following that Claremont story to explain away Claremont ignoring his own past stories: Xavier outright states that Masque's powers changed to allow himself to change his own flesh, due to a secondary mutation and he was shown using them on himself, as he used them to briefly impersonate Leech
>>86008097
That is so sad.
If he had only done his homework like a real writer he could have twisted, tweaked, adjusted, and edited those story elements and have made something that could be canon.
This crap happens with a lot of minor characters, they get the chance to move up to the big leagues but some writer who doesn't care about canon comes along and BLAMMOE!
...and then it's retconned away and the character can't be used again until the readership forgets the whole ugly mess.
