Well that's kinda the thing though, she even says it outright, she lashes out at people when she starts hating herself. She fought with pearl a lot because she thought Pearl considered her a mistake and all of Pearl's neatness and criticisms only enforced that. She's pretty much stopped heavily teasing pearl ever since they talked and understood eachother.
She's still insecure that she objectively flawed for a quartz and failed to defeat Jasper, so she was lashing out again trying to be stronger.
It kinda says a lot that while she was angry, jelous, and lashing out, she was still looking up to Steven. They were fighting trying to prove themselves were weaker, not that they were stronger than the other.

Really Amethyst's only real problem is no one knows how to properly train her. Pearl uses methodical technique and Garnet uses raw force. Amethyst functions best when she's being creative. She's slow on foot but actually fast when rolling. She was actually able to cause damage to Steven's shield by being the first person to try just throwing the thing into the floor.

I think it's complicated. She obviously has thought that she would prefer Rose being there over Steven and that that might involve Steven having to die but I do think she has often felt disgusted at herself for having had such thoughts.
I think Rose's scabbard marked the change in her feelings towards to Steven. And if it ever came to a point where she had to choose between bringing Rose back or letting Steven live she would choose Steven without even thinking it over.

Do the Gems actually understand their own technology or are they a bunch of neo-luddites? We've seen that Pearl can build spaceships and hack escape pods but generally they just tend to smash stuff they can't be bothered to deal with. The communication hub was a really nice structure and unlike the Sea Spire wasn't falling apart. Rather than deactivate it they just knock it down.
Maybe they're just lazy, after all they can't even build flat-pack furniture without taking many, many breaks.
