I suspect all Steven/Gem fusion may feature asymmetry as with Smokys funky arm.
I'm gonna go ahead and say... basically Rainbow Quartz, but with subdued wavy black hair and done up as a Victorian Lady (big over-wide long skirt with a fairly tight jacket, some type of cute little hat) with a color scheme of pastel greys (probably kaleidoscopic like Pearl, but very subdued near-grey tones).
But then, when she starts moving, it's revealed she has three legs arranged in a tripod. And she fights with a crazy, totally unique kick-boxing technique, using her Parasol weapon mostly as an 'action-crutch' and a 'vehicle', pointing it and kicking it which (totally illogically but only more awesome for it) launches it forward, and she rides it that way.
An elegant maelstrom.
(I originally said also one-armed, but on second thought that would probably even be too much or at least totally unnecessary).

The impression I get of Homeworld is that they have INCOMPREHENSIBLE POWER that they don't really trust anyone with, and are crippling themselves in paranoia. Diamond Authority is so terrified of another rebellion that having actual people working for them at all is being phased out, in favor of having everything just be automated with truly mindless drones (*cough*like Jasper*cough*). Meanwhile they hobble the actual gems they do need (no powers, training them to be reliant on technological augmentations) or just use total idiots like the Rubies.
A lot of Peridots lines have been instructive; 'i don't know anything without my screen' (she was tied to and using homeworld network in an unconscious way) 'a single geoweapon' (homeworld has/controls a multitude of other weapons on the level of The Cluster), etc.

the dialogue doesn't flow naturally, it's done so as to condense the abusive relationship metaphor into as little time as possible. everyone just pours out their lines without it feeling real. the scene from maximum capacity has the tension between amethyst and greg build, and uses the parallel action of her shapeshifting and the tv show to support it. lapis' second line basically explicitly states the whole point of the scene, which is just poor writing.
maximum capacity also has different layers developing simultaneously, compared to alone at sea which has a single one delivered in a direct manner. amethyst's anger at greg for taking rose away isn't the only thing going on in that scene. there's self-loathing on her part, greg's guilt over leaving steven behind (which is something that he actually struggles with, rather than just being decisive from the start), the fact that she's both frustrated with him but wants him to stay because she's that desperate, and the past event hanging directly over the whole thing which is only alluded to and whose nature is ultimately left ambiguous, the fact that she attacks greg from all fronts: in addition to rose she shapeshifts into his son and himself, the fact that they're both using this to get away from the baggage in their lives and that's where the conflict arises. and all those elements work together in leading to the emotional climax, which is so incredibly fucked up and somehow makes amethyst come across not as evil or sociopathic but pathetic and ALMOST pitiable (important emphasis on the almost) which also allows their reconciliation to work.
all of this not only makes the scene more natural, but more complex and insightful. and that's important.
i don't i'm overestimating the episode at all. it's a very well-written episode and one of the few times where i think su deserves its hype for having an “adult show” level of writing.

On one hand a lot of it is just defensiveness but I think there's a unique quality to how darker or more complex (to use your words) themes can come across in children's works and saying it's just defensiveness diminishes that unfairly. I think a lot of the time it's specifically because lightheartedness and innocence and pain and ambiguity are being juxtaposed that those scenes and episodes work (in a way that they wouldn't if they were in a more cynical or heady show.) Also because shit getting real can genuinely surprise you in a way that's more difficult to achieve in a serious drama (in a drama shit getting real is always expected on some level) and that's probably more in line with how a lot of people experience pain and emotion and conflict in their lives - something that catches you off-guard against the backdrop of an existence that's mostly formulaic, comfortable status quo.

You're right about the Maximum Capacity scene having a lot more going on though.

i'd argue that in this case natural dialogue would have helped a ton. it feels like an essay-like description of the dynamic of abusive relationships. it doesn't use narrative form to help illustrate it. and it doesn't have much depth to it either.
and the problem with lapis' dialogue isn't that she explicitly rejects jasper, it's that a) she does so in her second line, reaching a "realization" without sufficiently convincing or satisfying development preceding it and b) she does it in a way that hammers into you one of the main the ideas behind the scene, rather than letting it arise from the interaction between the characters.
