If you're using crayons or coloured pencils, you should colour an area starting from one corner to the others in small circles, and keep the pressure consistent (not too heavy). Add pressure for the darker areas. It makes it less streaky.

How strong are the gems?

I mean, I always assumed Amethyst was physically stronger than Pearl in spite of her short stature, but that didn't really come across in 'Steven vs. Amethyst'.

Steven is clearly much stronger than an average human - hefting massive speaker boxes and ripping metal with his bare hands - but not, one would assume, as strong as a full gem because of his fleshy bits.

Pearl is amazingly strong in spite of her beanstalk figure - but because she isn't made for strength, and Amethyst and presumably Ruby are and Garnet is a fusion, you'd expect them to be more powerful still.

In Marvel comics, such strength levels are expressed in 'classes', with Spider-Man being the basic template in, originally, Class 10, meaning he is capable of deadlifting ten metric tons. It's a crude way to express strength, but it indicates he is about a hundred times as strong as an average man who keeps in shape.

How is it with the gems? Of course their limitations are different because they don't have bones, muscles or soft tissues.

I just can't imagine so. Amethyst can't increase her strength by changing shape - at least not in a stable way. Was she as strong as Jasper when she was imitating her? I doubt it, otherwise she would probably have done the same in Kindergarten Beta.

On the other hand: Pearl. Either she compensates for her presumably inferior strength by applying what she has in absolutely perfect ways, like a judo master (It's possible Pearl is literally the most accomplished warrior in the universe, since Homeworld warriors rely on strength entirely), or Pearls are all much stronger than they know, or Pearl really is intrinsically different from all other Pearls.
I have theorized that Pearl and Rose Quartz were both unusual because they had been changed forever by fusing into Rainbow Quartz for the very first time.

Might even be why there is such a taboo about heterofusion.

Also, Rose Quartz was so opposed to shattering gems that she poofed and bubbled one of her closest friends and most powerful allies for suggesting it. So no, I don't think the Crystal Gems shattered even close to as many gems as the Homeworld troops did.

I don't know whether humans would have been involved in much of the fighting. 5500 years ago, when it was all over but for the shouting, humanity still numbered much less. But I doubt Jasper would have restrained herself in the slightest when coming across a few.

Seeing as their forms are just hard light constructs built by the preset specs of their gem, I don't think so.
Even if it was possible for a gem to build up something like muscular strength over time, it'd probably vanish if they were poofed and "reset" to their standard anatomy.

This is why Steven has the potential to be the scariest motherfucker in the universe. He has the levitation, the physical strength and endurance, and the apparent exemption from oxygen unless he thinks too hard about it.

I mean, even as far back as ocean gem, he went from being more concerned about Connie drowning than himself, to going up what must be in the tens of thousands of feet high water tower on one breath, followed by him noticeably not really needing to breath in a vacuum. Think about it, he wasn't saving any air when he bubbled himself on the moon, and when he opened it up to eject eyeball whatever air in his lungs would have been sucked into the void. Certain things can be explained as "It's just a cartoon," but I'm personally dubious that there is air on the moonbase to begin with. The only place where breathing is an actual problem for Steven is in Lion's mane, and who the fuck knows how that works, considering there's a living tree in there.

And yeah, Rose was "supposedly" against shattering gems, but had no qualms with shattering PD apparently. Which makes her a hypocrite because that meant she felt she should be the only one who gets to decide who lives or dies. And honestly, I doubt she was able to stop her entire army from doing what people do in a war.

1) Humans were never 'cavemen'. We find preserved human artifacts, remains and drawings because those were more likely to retain them, unlike in the open where scavengers and the weather would make short work of them.
2) Humans have been anatomically modern, our species in other words, for at least 50,000 and possibly 250,000 years - since long before any Gem activity on Earth, or else Earth would have been a colony decamillennia before.
3) Around the time of the war, between 6500 and 5500 years ago, there had been cities in the middle east for over a thousand years.
Göbekli Tepe is even older than that. And scattered pieces of art go back at least 40,000 years. Humans were undeniably a cultured species, even if our numbers were few. (And what does that even mean to gems? We still don't know how vast their numbers really were. Are there billions of gems in the cosmos? Millions? ...Thousands?)
