One of my absolute favorites is a band called Brave Combo that plays rock-infused polka and world music. Doesn't sound very impressive but they're one of the best live acts in the country, IMO.

I'll never understand Bendis's affection for double page spreads that don't even pretend to utilize the double page for effect.

Also a band called the Thirteenth Floor Elevators is one of the origins of the psychedelic movement.

I love being right between Deep Ellum and Denton, probably the two biggest spots for music in the state. On any given night I can drive to either of them and see some great band I've never heard of, and probably will never hear of again because they'll all form new bands the next week. When I lived in Denton even I was in a fucking band for a short time, and my brother moved there six months ago and has already moved through three bands. There's just so much creativity going 'round.

Oh yeah, totally. They even sound proto-punk to my ears.

And about your location, I totally get it. I'm a Bay Area native and still live here, a big reason why is because of all the art left and right. You can leave one scene entirely and still have plenty of options for live music.

Double page spreads can be used well, honestly they're probably one of my favorite devices in comics even if they're as generic as blockbuster films. It's just that Bendis rarely uses them effectively.

I enjoy him too, but others are correct in noting that he has a tendency to use the same sort of dialogue and is very forgetful and bad at keeping canon. For a guy who drags up obscure characters and ideas extremely often, he does not remember (or chooses to ignore) larger events and character arcs unfortunately. I'll always have a soft spot for Bendis though because his Disassembled did get me into Avengers.

It did get me into them too. But because I searched more Avengers comics. Couldn't accept one team could be so bad.
