Bismuth face when she realizes that Steven could have remembered near the beginning.
That was great.

Rose didn't believe in shattering because her fundamental belief was that gems could change and grow like humans can. To shatter gems to win the war would be a contradiction in terms because that would mean Homeworld was right all along. Everyone is born to their station and can not change it. Especially for Rose since was born a soldier. To shatter would violating everything she's become.

Bismuth never saw that because she was a smith. Change is a natural part of her process. You change ore and metal into weapons and tools. She didn't have a revelation when Rose asked her what she wanted to make. She wasn't changed. She was transmuted. She was the same as she always was, but for a different end. She still made herself into a weapon, body and mind. Still a smith. Never stopped being a smith.

Just like Pearl never stopped being a servant

I actually liked Bismuth a lot more than I thought I would, she seemed really comfy.

Predictions were pretty spot on, though. It was obvious she did something bad in order to make Rose bubble her in secret, though the Breaking Point wasn't THAT bad. It implies a Gem's gem is extremely hard to break, which makes Lapis' story a little weird. It's possible Bismuth used a prototype Breaking Point on her, which weakened her gem, allowing something as simple as being stepped on to crack it.

Rose's rebellion fought and CHOSE TO GIVE THEIR LIVES based on the ideals of change that Bismuth spouted about during this episode. Shattering Homeworld soldiers without giving them a chance would have gone completely against those ideals and made the rebellion pointless.

Bismuth I feel is a bit different though. She did change at least somewhat.

And really, it also extends to Rose.
Rose clearly wanted to be something else, hence her kind and caring nature.

The episode implies a gem is super hard to break, even though Lapis' was apparently cracked by being stepped on and Jasper implied she could shatter Amethyst with her bare hands.

It's possible this is just an inconsistency for the sake of plot but it could also be that certain gems are harder to break than others. Lapis was poofed from one surprise attack, so it's possible her gem is similarly weak. And since Amethyst is defective it's also possible her gem is weaker than a normal one would be.

It's also possible the Breaking Point was designed to break through enemy weapons and armor as well as shatter the gem.
