Am guessing you don't keep up with too many other webcomics that have had Kickstarters or the like completely derail the progress they were supposed to help improve. Because it's actually a common pitfall. Everyone drastically underestimates how much work it is ordering, product-checking, and then shipping out hundreds and hundreds of rewards, and depending on the complexity of items offered, it can all really slow to a slog. And then there's still the matter of working on the update, and when it's a fairly big thing like the next one is supposed to be, progress will only be that much slower. Ava's Demon ran into the same problem.

It's just rumours, but I -think- she got into some trouble with whoever was printing her books? She was printing out the first volume at the time, then shit started going south. People weren't getting books and she wasn't responding, then the dissapering act. Then months later some other people popped up and started making noises about how the publisher was a piece of shit and screwed her over and hit her with a gag order so she couldn't talk about it.
But it was never confirmed or denied, and there were so many theories flying around (many of which boiled down to 'she's dead') that I would be hesitant to say that is definitely what happened.
I'm just so pissed we'll never find out the story behind Hanna's scars or what the fuck was up with ... and how he got killed. Even if she had just gone 'I can't finish, xyz is what was going to happen' I would have been okay.

Other way around, the publisher got in trouble because of her. She was supposed to sign books and didn't, she straight up ignored them, and people who didn't get what they paid for started rumors about the publisher being bad guys. They refunded everyone's money, though. Years later someone talked to Tessa's sister or someone and they said "oh yeah, she's fine, not dead at all." So all that drama was for nothing, Tessa just confirmed for giant shithead.
