My guess is a failure is when a goal becomes impossible to complete in some way. Maggie has shit luck finding a boyfriend and is draining Tuls' magic in the process but she's not really on a time limit.

I guess a real failure would be finding out Titan is just a character and thus impossible for Wrathia to kill.
