Fuck, maybe that's it. The character arc I haven't been able to really wrap my head around for her.
She doesn't just want to be bigger and stronger, she wants excitement and she wants change.
The thrill of being basically a giant siege weapon, and the thrill of flight. Both gave Jasper this deep feeling of desire that she may or may not have always had, and now she wants more of it. To keep up that excitement and really break free from what she was as just a quartz.

That'd actually be a pretty nice character arc for her. None of the gems have really had such a selfish desire for excitement outside Amethyst, and hers is more tied to her search to find what she is and what will make others around her and herself happy.
Jasper could be full on self-centered lust for change and power.

Even then, they're designed with that purpose in mind, so they're in many ways permanently bound to it even if they escape it. Not true, Amy was made with a purpose, and therefore technically she was born with one too: to be a soldier

All gems are made on purpose, and all have a role to preform in their society. They are born adults, all given purpose by homeworld, and told what to do. But that doesnt make them mature.
For the gems who rebelled, they have suddenly needed to make their own purpose, and chose to mentally grow up. Pearl, Garnet and Amethyst are all proof of what rose said, and what greg added to later.

Eveyrthing from her history to her power set to the way they talk about her suggests she's a one of a kind deal like the diamonds, or at least an extremely rare higher-up type gem.

I'm betting Rose was either pink diamond (somehow) or pink diamond's second-in-command and pink diamond died at the start of the war. For me 8.5/10. This episode was really funny but also cute. It was great to see some good 1v1 interaction between Greg and Rose, because before we often had the other gems tagging along with Rose. I liked the tiny interaction between Vidalia and Greg too and baby Sour Cream is truly the coolest baby in animation..."meh". We didn't really learn anything new in this episode though.

Nonono she's unhappy because she realizes she owes her existence a big and destructive process and feels like deep down she's still a parasite, which leads to a self-loathing that she projects on others; ie when Pearl and Garnet argue with her she interprets it as them harboring the same hatred she does for herself, especially since Amethyst's violent nature is exactly what leads to most of their arguments.

She's like the product of a childbirth that also led to maternal death, except the maternal death in this case was basically the complete erasure of life from an entire stretch of land.
