You guys think that antagonists should look villainous? I'm doing character concepts and noticed that most of my antagonists look super non-threatening. I kinda like it, but what do you guys think of this character for instance? Does he look like he could be nasty if he wanted to?

Your composition is strong. I think what you're drawing right now is a bit hard for an outsider to approach, but you're definitely making visually engaging pages.
>>
>>84664564
They don't have to. Sauron would be a different villain if he just looked like a normal dude, but he wouldn't necessarily be worse.

Maybe not nasty in a physical cruelty way, but he looks like he'd definitely cancel a loan out of spite or to get his own way.
>>
>>84664564
Anyone in life can be a villain, and your character here fits the "straight laced white guy with nastiness brewing underneath" archetype.

You can easily make him visually threatening in a moment with posture, expression and small details like disheveled hair.

Did anyone here get accepted into Hiveworks?
>>
>>84666751
Nobody from /hyw/ got accepted into HW as far as I know. We only know 2 of the comics that got accepted so far, the rest of the creators aren't telling anybody until their comics show up on HW, but it seems HW wanted Tumblr shit this time.

The 2 best comics in /hyw/ didn't get accepted and they are both better than the 2 comics that everybody knows have been accepted, that tells you something about Hiveworks.

Yeah, they definitely had their eye on something specific. Both visually and thematically (that is... they seem most interested in digitally drawn fantaay comics.) Comics in their catalogue that are exceptions had large fanbases prior to joining anyways (e.g. SMBC, Prague Race.) I'm disappointed I didn't get accepted because I have a good product, but I don't fit within any of the above categories either. I can't think of a comic here that does.

Miss Melee is alright. It's well-drawn enough, the writing is decent, but nothing about it really makes it a head above other entries to the same genre. I'm not surprised it got rejected on those grounds... and this is not to say it's bad.

Yes. Both writer and artist drop in.

>Or the guy who did that kind of John K-looking comic about the kind of pirate-looking girl?
Yes. Dustin has shown up here recently.

>Has the person who was making Fjordson gotten back to work yet?
No. ScandinavianPrincess hasn't been seen in this thread for a long time. Fjordson is on hiatus while they work on their portfolio for school.
>>
>>84668058
Yes. The whole ironic superhero thing's been done a million times and better, and the lolsorandum jokes are just plain bad.
>>
>>84668095
It's on par with modern capes, sure, but that's not exactly a high bar. And modern capes don't really intersect with the kind of work HW appears to have been seeking out.
>>
>>84668222
So your issue isn't with anything you wrote - but instead is with the fact that it's a crowded genre and it doesn't appeal to you as much as other comics have. OK.

>>84668225
I don't get your point, though? If it's comparing with modern capes at the level it could be out on shelves right now, why are you not surprised it got rejected on those grounds? Are you saying HiveWorks demands a quality that surpasses what gets published and is on shelves -- because you're in for a rude awakening if you actually go through their catalogue. It's definitely not a hard rule for them.
>>
>>84668225
>And modern capes don't really intersect with the kind of work HW appears to have been seeking out
It's been said before: if you have a big enough fanbase it doesn't matter whether your comic fits the image Hiveworks wants or not.

But if you have a fanbase that big you're not going to need to submit your comic to them, they'll seek you out and beg you to join.
>>
>>84668095
I don't know why we would immediately compare it to something else. Does comparing it to mainstream cape comics make it better? As an independent comic, it's boring. Action-heavy and really lacks story in my opinion, and no matter how the other comics are like, my opinion still stays the same.

>>84668316
My point is >modern capes don't really intersect with the kind of work HW appears to have been seeking out.

Though I would argue that modern capes have a super low bar for entry, anyway... but that is for another thread. My real point is despite being a decent product, MM likely got rejected on the grounds of its genre more than its quality.

>>84668331
Agreed. Though MM doesn't appear to have that big enough fanbase quite yet. It is still at a point where it would have benefited from the partnership in my opinion.

Yeah, I come here on occasion. More often than not to just post the next update and maybe give a few blurbs of critique because these threads have been shittier than usual for about two weeks now.

>>84668039
>>84668341
I mean, I found it to be a fun read. But.
I'm working on a review of it for the Webcomic Police that should be going up in the next few days. Pretty much my thoughts after two issues of reading it. A lot of close shots, a lack of real backgrounds save for the interior of Jan's daughter's room; and it all seems to be so focused on the action that we lack a lot of reason to care about said action. While it doesn't need to be character driven, it does need to have character to it and the fact that the city in a superhero comic doesn't have any real identity visually, is a sin.

I've reworked it about six times because I don't want to sound like I'm taking a hatchet to it. Critique from a place without emotion and really just care about the raw stuff. MM can work because it flies through easily, but once you realize you've read two issues that feels more like two scenes, that's 44 pages without really getting to who anyone is or why. Modern Cape Comics do a lot of things wrong, but they try to make you care (and sometimes they do a terrible job) but it helps give you a sense of where you are in the world and why it matters to care about these characters. Right now we don't really have any reason to care about Janice being MM because there's no real risk to anything she does; she fights and wins.

As for MM not getting into Hiveworks, neither did the Sisters. HW clearly wanted a very specific aesthetic this time around and upon looking back at their catalog it is very easy to see that it has less to do about "talent per se" and more to do about fitting the visual/storytelling niche they want: which is something soft, inoffensive, and that appeals primarily to the teen demographic.

Its a bit of a morale hit, but things always bounce back.
>>
>>84668679
>the visual/storytelling niche they want: which is something soft, inoffensive, and that appeals primarily to the teen demographic.

Yar, I saw that from their catalogue. That's how I knew that they wouldn't even give AfterDeath a care. It just isn't the place for it. Even though it might speak to teens (protagonist thrust into an unfamiliar world which demands they act responsibly and the hero goes on a journey of self-discovery on the road back to their seat of power), it's definitely aimed at adults.
>>
>>84668679
And that really is the luxury of being an indie comic is that you can leave time to develop and give people what they want without being forced into the crunch of page limit.

I think MM can develop into a better product, just like everything else here, if given time to do so. I wouldn't say it is the best thing in the thread; primarily because it has so much room to improve. I sure as shit wouldn't claim my comic to be that either, simply by virtue of how many people like to shit on it; and because if I were that arrogant I'd probably dress nicer.

>>84668508
Everyone wants to feel important and like they're accepted; and being desired is a part of that certainly. We felt pretty good when pre-Dewd BluTrinity wanted the Sisters---and then we did some research and due diligence. Always feels nice to be wanted though.

>>84664564
An antagonist need not look villainous. Their actions just need to project the intent.

>>84668787
Yep, same thing here really. Such that it is.
Hiveworks would've been great, primarily because it'd just be last things we as creators had to take care of. But we're independents, and that means striking it out on our own and trying to make what we can of any given situation. But just because the potential gains would've been great doesn't mean it would've read well to the integrity of ones project. And anything they offered one can always do for oneself.

>>84669291
Just recounted, 40 pages not including any covers. It does flow well, and quickly; but we're two issues in and don't really have much reason for investment in anyone or the setting. Which isn't to say you cannot be invested simply by virtue of MM being the protagonist, but rather there aren't any stakes being put forward that really propel the story forward; even Janice being caught out superheroing by her family is easily on both occasions.
>>
>>84669394
jesus.
honestly i think i have a major problem with the standard comic page format. not enough happens on each page. it's a TON of effort on the artist's part because the quality is usually bumped up, but it's almost impossible to enjoy one page at a time and that's what breaks the camelback to me
>>
>>84668195
>ScandinavianPrincess hasn't been seen in this thread for a long time
I'm surprised she posted at all, considering the high level art.
>>
>>84669322
I know you're trying to start shit, but more than just "talent" factors into it. From a pure talent/quality/design standpoint, The Sisters is as good as anything on Hiveworks proper: but aesthetically and thematically it's not something they're looking for, same with MM.
>>
>>84669714
The only person who matches you for more undeserved ego is Bones.
>>
>>84669772
I don't know who you think you're talking to, but I'm not whoever that is.

As someone who just reads comics, I'm attesting to the fact that The Sisters is a comic that's of high quality by any reasonable objective merit of composure or craft. There's a lot of complaints to be leveraged towards a lot of comics here and their general quality, but when you're dealing with a comic of that sort of caliber it really is just a matter of taste and aesthetic preference
>>
More wips, is this too much?

Generally I want my comic to be a optimistic and bright outlook to it. Although one of the element is magical girls with PTSDs, I think it might take dealing with something like this to justify it. Although I don't know if its too jarring with the rest of the comic

I wonder how I can put blood curdling screams like ones from ME3

Say, /hyw/, what's your least favorite part of the comic making process?
Personally, thumbnails drive me insane.
>>
>>84670972
Thumbnails and coloring. I hate coloring most though. Takes ages and my attention span can barely handle it.
>>
>>84670960

I don't bother with thumbnails.

Probably cleaning the inks.
>>
>>84670528
I don't do panty shots unless there's a valid reason to show a woman's panties.

Panty shots for the sake of panty shots remind me of that horrible animation that Bones once did.
>>
>>84670289
If Abaddon still posted here then I'd agree that there's one person here of professional quality that deserves to get published.

He's not here, so now there aren't.
>>
>>84670972
Flatting. It's an incredibly tedious process that's all but devoid of creativity, and I'm pretty sure it takes me longer than it should to begin with. I'm a horrible colorist too, but at least that part is interesting.

Scanning and cleaning pages is pretty bad too, but it goes by quickly enough that it isn't a big deal.

Drew up some more old characters in the new style. I'm still pretty happy with it all so far. I need to draw less slouching characters though.

Doing flats by hand is the whole reason I decided to stop drawings comics traditionally. Look of real ink is great but nothing can beat the convenience of fill bucketing in digital lines.

Hair. It drives me batty - especially in scenes like this where it's flapping all about. I basically have to just give up and cheat - throwing lines around that look somewhat like hair.
>>
>>84671179
Why are you here if you think the quality is so bad?
>>
>>84671319
I can still fill bucket my inks, that's thankfully something I learned to sort out a while ago. I just end up with a lot of hatching and small details to fill in here and there, and dealing with it gets old pretty fast.
>>
>>84671430
1. Just because a comic isn't professional quality, it doesn't mean it's not worth following or paying attention to.

2. Some people actually manage to improve as their work goes on.

3. I post my own work here and, rarely, get useful help. Though I wish there were more people who knew what they were doing, so the help could be better.
>>
>>84671542
What does "professional quality" mean, anyway? There are a ton of comics that are published by major publishers that are worse written and/or worse drawn than some comics in here. "Professional quality" is far from an objective standard of measurement.
>>
>>84671542
So you talked down everybody else to feel superior?
>>
>>84671542
I know what I'm doing, but get BTFO'd half the time I write out a crit for somebody. I'd love to know which comic is yours but not foolish enough to ask you to out yourself in the thread.

I disagree that nobody is pro level here though. They just usually get fewer comments than those comics with more outstanding errors - and generally get discouraged when it turns into /pol/ and/or /dewd/.

I'm not playing this game, anon. It's dumb, and beneath both of us.

I post my comic and you say "ha ha your comic sucks you're not better than any of us" even though that was never the issue.

Again, I've never said my comic was professional quality. Nor am I upset over sour grapes because I didn't get acceptance from Hiveworks.

Why are you so adamant disparage works like Miss Melee and Sisters which are, by all metrics, the same level of professional quality as anything else on Hiveworks when

A. The creators of both comics have shown literally no "salt" over being rejected
B. It has been outlined in great detail why their rejection was a matter of what Hiveworks looks for rather than quality

If you're not bitter?

>I know what I'm doing, but get BTFO'd half the time I write out a crit for somebody.

Mild tangent, but please keep critting. Without saying who I am, I recently went to an in-person semi-pro animator thing, and their feedback was bleedingly obvious in hindsight but nobody here or anywhere online ever mentions it when they see my work. Long story short, I need to make a portfolio from scratch and like nothing I've done is remotely up to snuff.

I'm actually thinking of putting my comic on the back burner to properly study a few things, for what it's worth. I might elaborate on my situation in a later thread, but tonight I go to a figure drawing group for the first time in ages.

>They just usually get fewer comments than those comics with more outstanding errors - and generally get discouraged when it turns into /pol/ and/or /dewd/.

And yeah, goes without saying that our middle of the road people need way the fuck more feedback than they get.
>>
>>84672272
I don't believe they are, by all metrics, the same level of professional quality.

And neither do the people at Hiveworks.

>It's been claimed that they were rejected not because of quality but because Hiveworks was looking in another direction

Yeah and some other guy claims he got rejected because of Joos and fat women, who are out to get him. Both are just dodges and excuses.

>if you're not bitter?

Bitter of what? I never got rejected, or had an ego to get deflated.

Bitter of MM and Sisters? Not at all. I hope, unlike some here, they reflect on why their comics were rejected, and improve upon them until one day they're good enough to publish.

yeah I'm still floating around these threads- don't always have much to contribute, and since I don't have the extra time right now to post, wait for feedback, apply it, and then post again I think just spamming it is going to make people frustrated.

also sometimes the threads go in a helpful direction, and that makes me want to join the conversation, but if it goes into a less helpful direction I'll sit it out.
>>
>>84672407
I know for a fact that they want something specific. I heard it from the horse's mouth when Hiveworks was just a glimmer in Jojo's eye.

If Sailor Moon got rejected from Shonen Jump, it wouldn't be for a lack of quality. If Bleach got rejected from Shojo Beat... same deal.

I have been offered enough professional opportunities to know my skill level isn't why I didn't get accepted. I'm not being egotistical - just realistic in the context of how my work has been received in the past.
>>
>>84672231
Have any of you guys actually read this? It's kind of amazing how bad it is. It just makes me a little sad to see it sitting there next to Atomic Robo, Broodhollow, Harpy Gee, Parallax, Vibe, etc. and then a close friend of mine gets their awesome pitch turned down. I'm very interested in what it is that they're looking for specifically, I can't find much of a common thread between all of the comics on there.

>>84672836
I'm not expecting "perfect fairness", my dude. I have no idea why you're bringing up socialism. I'm talking about quality. I know for a fact that other comics that were pitched & rejected are far better than some of the ones on Hiveworks, and I know that it's just the way it is and their review process is their own business, but what I'm saying is that it confuses me. I'm just very, very curious as to why Basinvale gets on Hiveworks but other better, more professional comics don't. It's about what specifically they're looking for and I'm wondering out loud as to what that could be.

I read through it during the Zamii incident, it's shockingly mediocre. Wonky perspective and weird anatomy all around.
For as much credit as Hiveworks gets, it's a mixed bag at times. There's a lot of mediocre art and boring story hidden behind the more popular titles, along with several abandoned/infinite hiatus comics.

Howdy. I've always wanted to start working on a comic but i never know how to structure or format panels. Like whenever i try to draft for an action scene i never know how to show an image without making it conviluted. I'm also practicing on my art skills as well.
>>
>>84678371
You're tenacious, I'll give you that.

>>84678587
Because I didn't think of that and because I don't know what to aim the camera at in those panels, respectively.
Also wow it really does look like it's sniffing her crotch in that panel. That's not quite as threatening as I wanted.
>>
>>84677955
>niflhel
oh shiiiiiiii
>>
>>84678767
it's supposed to be threatening? i mean when a wolf sniffs you he's just being friendly. also a wolf that only goes up to crotch height on a midget like skeggy is hard to take seriously as a threat. i've had labradors bigger than that. now, if it was reaching its head up to sniff her neck, THAT would make me nervous.

anyway I don't think there's anything wrong with a few dialogue-heavy pages, I think you can just simplify some backgrounds and push through these quickly. the reader won't think "jesus this has been going on for four fucking pages", they'll remember it as one or two. in particular >>84678034 this one is so damn powerful despite getting the least accomplished in one page. I think it's fine.
Plus so much in this comic has been implied, it'll be refreshing to get some straight-up laid-down dialogue
>>
>>84678709
There's no magic formula to action scenes but here are some tips I've picked up. Heed the 180 degree rule, it makes action scenes much easier to read. Use wide and full body shots to keep the movement and positions of your subjects clear. Use panel size/shape to control the pacing of the action, big panels for important moments or longer scenes/shots, and smaller panels for little details, like someone getting grazed by a bullet.
Really, the best way to learn how to do action is to read some action comics. Whenever I'm stumped on an action scene I start looking through some shounen manga on my shelf.
>>
>>84680452
>action
now there's a time when the 180 rule is totally valid and important to keep an eye on. You could get totally lost if you constantly rotate the camera like that

Well, it's probably fine so long as they don't actually go there. The dead can't get motivated to be much of a threat outside of their borders.

>>84680086
Well, not a direct threat, but the implication that things could get really ugly really fast - the wolf was supposed to read as slowly circling around Skeggöld's back, sizing her up.

I'm not super worried about having the scene take up too many pages - it's more that it's not a very interesting presentation of what's happening. This page >>84677980 is the only one I feel like too little is happening, but on the other hand, I really want to keep the page transition where Skalmöld freaks out because Skeggöld is about to open her big dumb mouth.

>>84678709
I won't claim to be very good at structuring panels, but for keeping action readable, here's a few rules of thumb that I've found very useful.
When in doubt:
>pull the camera out so you can see more of the situation
>show the action in profile
>limit the amount of things happening in a single panel
Doing this has the drawback of slowing things down and taking away impact in the image, but I'd recommend always erring on the side of clarity.

Also, if you don't know what the "line of action" is, look it up and learn to love it.
>>

Oh right, the Sisters updated. Another 4 pages, the end of The Old Flame, next week we've got the start of The Little Death.

This week, Aethon calls out for his master and is really unhappy with the progress humanity has made since he got stuffed in his jail. Plus a character who'll be a lot more fun come next issue.
http://thesisters-comic.com/
https://tapastic.com/episode/407262

I'm personally very happy to be done with this issue because it sucks to have to set things up to establish the new status quo; but unlike our first arc that took multiple issues to establish things, this only took one. Which is, better. Next story arc gets set-up during this arc, so should be an even easier transition.

Plus, script-wise, pretty sure next week starts on some Craig filming his show. Which is always fun.

>Applying some filters hoping to fix the mess.

What did you do to ruin the scan so badly? Scanning and cleaning my pages takes around 15 minutes at the worst, I can't imagine redoing the inks entirely just to fix a scan.

>black and white instead of grey scale
i don't understand the difference but I do know the horror of an image that's stuck in one mode and refuses to change
>>
>>84686241
Lots of bad erased pencil lines and forgetting to switch the scan config to greyscale, really. It's a 20yo scanner, but I doubt that does have anything to do with my mess. I guess I'll leave some "gradient" lines (I must admit, some of them look fitting for shadows and other textures I'm using).

>>84686431
The difference is that, when you set your inage in "B&W" mode, your bitmap only works with two colours, while in greyscale, it works with way more colour depth (I cannot remember if it was 256 different greys for an 8 bits picture).

Funny how chrome marked greyscale in my box but not that.

>>84686709
Yes, but unfortunately, you cannot choose which range goes to black and which one goes to while. It's more like converting the gradients in one pic into irregular patterns. So you really need to clean your work before scanning, with a very clear lineart.

>>
>>84686630
I don't even erase my pencil lines, but I imagine that's a horrible idea depending on how you ink or pencil. Spending a little extra time with the levels tool in PS and a little spot erasing takes care of whatever pencils make it into the scan for me.
>>
>>84686926
Actually, it is the more efficient way of scanning papers and books if you want to be lightweight but still readable. It gives you great contrast if the typography is already clear, and you can came up with ridiculously light PDFs.It will not look "pretty" tho.
>>
>>84687036
I really should've done better from the start.
>>
>>84687272
If it's a frequent problem, you could try penciling with a harder lead or do all the pre-ink work in tones that won't scan to minimize it. Or adjust how you clean your scans, I guess. I have no idea how most folks do it, but it's certainly possible to make things worse when trying to separate the pencils from the inks. Especially if you want to have solid black, aliased lines when you're done.

I'm sketching this comic with coloured pencils, I scan the sketch, and then draw with my graphite pencils (HB to 2B) or the black coloured pencil over a whited printed sketch page. After that, I ink it with markers, and then erase the pencil lines and scan the finished page again.

It worked for the other pages (for which I did have to fix minor stuff), but this one got messy.

Don't worry, anons. In fact, I think I'm enjoying my time cleaning my mess now. I must be a masochist.
>>
>>84688203
Sometimes work like that can be pretty relaxing, even if it is pretty time consuming. I'm curious though, if you work at a size you can print at to begin with, why not scan and print the pencils in a light blue (or whatever) and ink over that to avoid erasing entirely?

That's fair, at least erasing some pencil lines isn't too bad to begin with.

That scan does look quite a bit cleaner than mine do before I go over them and clear up all the stray pencil marks I end up with. I've never tried doing any pencil tones like that bottom panel though. Do you ever work around those and bring all the inks to a solid black, or do you stick with the tones you've got there?

That foot gradient is black coloured pencil as it is (graphite pencils turn alright too, but it's hard to achieve scannable black even with 5Bs). I inked the line cropping the upper panel and the rest of the page with solid black, and then I tweaked levels in photoshop after to match markers and pencils. I could've used black watercolour or gouache, but I really want that disty, textured pencil effect. It doesn't look nice itself until I fix both blacks to look the same.
>>

I mean tone.

Tone is always with pencils. Solid is always with markers and, sometimes, pencils over then to fill blanks and correcting thickness (I'm using cheap paper and too much ink is a no-no).

Yeah, that was all clear enough. Charcoal pencils for a deeper black, but I have no idea if that would still produce the texture you want. Very prone to smearing too, from what I recall.

Interesting that you chose markers over tech pens or something, but ink can definitely ruin cheap paper. Trying to use my quills or brush on the cheap sketch pads I've got lying around doesn't usually go very well.

To start with, it's good to see someone actually attempting to design characters instead of just throwing them in. I like most of what you've got here.

Urchin and farmer are looking too rich. Farmer shouldn't have elastic, so that skirt's gotta be a pretty precise fit regardless of whether she's had a lean season. Urchin's fabric looks soft, flowy, and expensive, and again might fit too well. Never mind that I'm not sure what's causing it to hug the body in that manner.

Is the traveler wearing a hat? A hood? It's not clear from the image you have here.

Is the smith wearing a full apron, or does it only come up to the waist with a separate chest piece underneath? Are all the features you drew visible from the top, or are we seeing through the apron as it seems we were seeing through the traveler's cloak?

Are you planning to vary the bodies of your NPCs as well? Malnutrition and hard labor do things to you. On the flip side, clergy and nobility might get a little pudge sometimes.

Also, not sure I've seen much of your work here. Can I get a link, and what's your setting generally like?

Mm, lots of things I want to respond to in this post - but I'm presently working on a character concept on-stream so I can only answer so much haha.

I have trouble with loose, flowy, garments yeah. Part of the reason why I'm doing these exercises. I'll quickly go over the rest. Traveler: hood, needs improvement yeah. Smith: It's overalls with front pockets, over a flannelish material. Visible from the top?

Planning to vary bodies yeah. This was original some attempts to give my main character a costume - figured I'd keep the work of designing these costumes at least and apply them to other NPCs. Also is helping me figure out the fashion sense of that part of the world.

I work on AfterDeath, which you can find here: http://afterdeath.the-comic.org/comics/

Generally, it's a dark fantasy world with an active pantheon that's built on the bones of a super-tech fallen civilization.

Quick question , does this character look more like a main character or a side character?

i came up with this idea>>84691196
in another thread just for fun, and now i feel like i could use this design for a side character that i had written but not designed yet in my comic

so i decided to redraw it and trow in some of the stuff i had written for the side character and i got this

but i also feel like i could keep developing the original idea and make it into another thing separate from the webcomic

so i guess it all depends on what kind of vibe this character gives to other people
>>
>>84718785
Could go either way, depending on what the other characters look like.

>loose flowy garments
I think the larger issue is that poor folks usually have stiff fabric and a poor fit. Generally this just means it gets fastened and bundled somewhere, and you're not likely to have well defined breasts or like.. a belly button showing. Unless they're exposed.

You want to show nips and belly button and uncomfortably outlined dicks on tacky new rich types in Rome.

I actually really love this, just make sure the comedy remains grounded and doesn't focus too much on the meta aspect or just go straight for shock value. More romance than comedy, is what I mean. The idea of two figures who affected the world immensely in one universe having little to no impact on the world around them in another and having a completely different relationship from our world is really damn compelling. I really want you to make this happen and deliver on the potential present in the concept.

flowing cloth is really hard. You have the basics at least. You have to practice folds and soft-folds, things that are ripples or near-ripples from where things gently curvedly fold over themselves. it helps sometimes to draw the bottom curve first, then mentally follow it up as you draw the folds

It would be completely serious/sincere from the character's pov.
A world where both WW 1 & 2 never happened, Europe is strong and whole and dominates the globe through colonization, where only wars are proxy fights among native soldier under different imperial banners and US is a provincial as Australia. All meta jokes would be background chatter, nothing in your face, etc.

well the characters in the comic are pretty similar, they are just a little bit more based on fantasy instead of science fiction, but i also have a a few character that use technology instead of magic or paranormal stuff

>>84720692
>if that thing could like, rewire her optic center so she could see in 3d for the first time

yeah that's the kind of stuff i got while i was brainstorming last night, and the thing is that a year ago i got surgery for my lazy eye, so i think i could write abunch of stuff about it

but yeah she also looks like an advisor and i could see her giving advice to the guy in the center of this pic or hanging out with the guys at the bottom because 2 of them also their own kind of weird buddy

i don't know i guess i'll decide what to do at the very last second when i reach the page where she appears

yeah but, to the average person in developed europe, it doesn't. or hasn't in some time.

Great to hear that man. Having a deformity can really mess with your image. I know, I'm aging like fucking crap lately and experiencing severe hairline damage not caused by pattern baldness, so I just look kinda.. sick sometimes, from some angles.
>closed for a few days
shiiiit.. i don't know how i'd handle that. i had cataract surgery but at least I had the immediate use of my eyes at all times.
what i have is just amblyopia. the eyes point the same way, but the brain ignores one of them so I've never had 3d vision. didn't even know it existed til I was 25

So you liked it before it was a thing, but now it is so it's not special anymore?

I remember drawing cartoon animal stuff, like Darkwing Duck and Chip & Dale as a kid before I moved on to drawing people, I knew guys drew dirty pics of cartoon characters but I don't think anybody ever separated them in fur vs. human, it was all just Toon porn.
>>
>>84732037

ugh, don't even remind me. toon stuff ruined drawing animal people even before furry did.

it's complicated, man. i'm not even sure what I meant anymore. just that it used to be fun to say like "this person looks like this animal or that one, this one suits their looks or their personality, this person identifies with this animal, it's their favorite" before fursonas and otherkin exploded on the internet, and now it just... you have to explain that's not what you mean.

I want to stay awake all the day. I want to paint. I don't want to go sleep.

I think I may need help, anon.

I posted this before, but deleted it, because I fixed one of the dudes. My sight is bad and I tend to fuck up symmetry a lot. Their faces still have issues, but at this point it's more a trait of my cartoonish style than anything. Anyways, what I wanted to say is, I fixed the mess I did end with yesterday after around 5-6 hours of work (I'm the scan anon). I like shortkeys in Krita to turn and switch stuff on canvas. I wish Photoshop was so easy to work with.

Also, I want to draw one of my original characters in a silly but cool pose, so I think that's what I'm going to do once I'm done with the 6 pages prologue. It will be the cover of the fancomic, I think.

I think a lot lately.

Man, did I rush this page or what. Looking at it, either I'll do it again from scratch, or try to salvage it digitally. In any case, I unpacked the box number 7 today and the scanner wasn't there, so it'll have to wait.

Still, whatever changes I made, the panels are going to be pretty much the same, so I'll take anything until I find my scanner.

Personal issues, but, I don't have a chair, nor money to buy one for the time being after moving out (in fact, I barely have any furniture on my own), and my ISP doesn't reach where I moved so I'll be a month or so without inet until I find a new one or some workaround, meaning I'm pretty much off the grid, and can't draw comfy at home. I read the thread by mobile, but man, posting is a bitch there.

I'll try to have more done by monday, see what I can get done. This crossover still has 4 pages more to go, so I'll try to get them done this week.

If you call your ISP they will arrange to have your service changed to whoever provides it where you move, you should have done that sooner.
This page looks awesome enough to me! but if you DO feel like redoing it, Kimchi's shirt thing is longer, and like I said earlier Hel's tail comes from above her skirt.. but that's okay. it looks good below. I also like how you actually fixed the aspects of her costume that I drew wrong (then continued to draw wrong for continuity's sake), but you just instinctively knew that's what a magical girl outfit is supposed to look like.

>>84743410
good job keeping the noodles a consistent width, but now you have to study lines of motion so you get the shapes right. for example you wouldn't have both legs curving the same way, but then feet pointing opposite ways. you wouldn't have an arm jutting out diagonally against the body and then a hand hanging down pointing inward (also the thumb isn't showing right). tubes have to be curved the right way so you create this look of motion with the tube limbs. Thankfully, of all cartoon styles, this one has the most history to study from, going all the way back 100 years, so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding references.

>>
>>84747416
well, yes it is
and most animals do have a baculum, that's probably what they were actually saying. nobody would be clueless enough to think they had a bone when they clearly don't
>>
>>84747324
Beyond the expansion/contraction of the scrotum to regulate temperature and avoid injury, no. That's not normal.

Ejaculation wouldn't account for a noticeable difference in volume, especially considering the vast majority of seminal fluids are stored elsewhere.

You probably have ball cancer or torsion or something, anon.
>>
>>84747453
People are indeed stupid enough to think that human erections have bones.

Same way people are stupid enough to think balls expand and shrink on ejaculation.

it's not the literal 'emptying your balls of semen' porn-lingo concept, no, but they do expand when sperm production kicks back up.
there's a lot wrong with me, it's true, but that has only been the case for the last few years. prior to that the tessies definitely grew and shrank a lot. it's not really hard to tell whether something between your fingers is a different size.

>>
>>84747559
>it's not really hard to tell with something between your fingers

You're running into cognitive bias. You think they're expanding and shrinking because of your misconceptions of how balls work. If you actually measured and recorded size randomly, you'd see no they don't change size. Unless you have some fucked medical condition. But Occam's Razor says you're just stupid.
>>
>>84747671
Seems like an odd deal, but that works I suppose. I'll be interested in reading this story
>>
>>84747681
Sort of, but not really. You're always producing, but you produce more in response to ejaculation. That's why it's important to do that every so often, to flush them out
>>84747691
cognitive bias has nothing to do with basic spatial recognition. if you knew anything about medicine you'd know for example that hormonal changes cause/are the cause of size changes (testosterone's a weird thing with its feedback loop so cause and effect get muddled)
>>
>>84747770
>cognitive bias has nothing to do with basic spatial recognition

Of course it does. That's one of the most basic, classic examples of bias.

And there's probably not a greater example of biases then in men estimating the size of their own genitalia.

Okay, Coldfusion.
>>
>>84747956
what are you talking about? there's no cultural component to testicle size (though there really should be), and as far as penis size, every guy measures it. with a ruler.
If people were unable to estimate size and feel size changes by touch, there's a whole hell of a lot we wouldn't be able to do.
I'm not holding you down and forcing you to admit you're wrong or anything, but it's baffling you're still trying to deny the basic fact that men's hormones change hourly, just like women's can, causing breast size changes.

Not too odd, I'd think. Some naked lady wanders into town during a rainstorm, collapses from frostbite and malnutrition; is likely to die. If anyone in that town worships Felanor, it'd be offensive to that God's aspects of Justice and Hope for her to be left there to die.

So, his followers help those sorts of folks out - and in return, he grants blessings at times to them. There's also the threat of being hurled into the Void - an endless darkness where time is frozen but the mind continues living on forever in one of the grandest displays of cruelty in the pantheon - if they don't follow his precepts.

They might be sore about it - but if they've decided to fall under his banner then they'd probably help out, even if they're sore about it. Thankfully, the person who decides to help her out isn't sore in the slightest about it; though of course not everyone's a fan.

Oh okay. That sounds like a pretty neat aspect of the setting.
I'm forgetting anything you've ever posted here before, if any, so now I just wanna know more about the story.
>>
>>84748142
Anon, testicles aren't breasts.
If your testicles really are changing size, that's not normal and you should go see a doctor about it.

In brief: Dark fantasy world built on the bones of an ancient supertech civ; its goddess of natural death, decay, and luck loses her powers and falls to earth as a mortal. The story is about the consequences that result, who did it to her and why, and her journey back to her seat of power while rediscovering her role in this world.

If you're interested, there's 2 pages of it up right now on Tapastic/Comic Fury. Next page hits Aug 3rd.

you guys are nuts (heehee)
but i appreciate your concern, and i have seen doctors, and, yknow, they don't want to do anything. they just dismissively say you're fine, often refusing to even check. there's a lot wrong with me, like I said, but whatever. I know that isn't it. I mean that's part of it (for one thing they're supposed to be getting bigger at night, not smaller).
>>84749258
I guess if our activity really is going to be just encapsulating our comic as a little promotion, then that would cover that.
>>
>>84749729
Like a banner or a button? I think that might be a neat addition to the google docs
>>
>>84750243
i was thinking an image and a bunch of text in the post.. but i suppose we could do that
>>
>>84750269
One, or the other, or both! I think it'd be an interesting exercise in achieving the greatest impact out of your comic if you only had a post or button/banner to do it.

WIP background for a flash update coming soon. Will be animated, parallaxing, etc. Looking for a retro adventure-game look. Opinions?

Er, does that mean it's not accurate? I can't tell if that's a good thing.
>>
>>84755525
yeah I wouldn't call that accurate. but maybe I don't know the games you're talking about
>>
>>84755668
Old Sierra adventure games, mostly, or at least a certain style of them.
>>
>>84756297
i mean are you actually trying to make it look pixely or is it "like sierra but not that"
because i see no reason to go full-on pixel retraux when you can just capture the FEEL of good old art
>>
>>84756349
Not going for a full pixellish look, just trying to get the dithering to be unobtrusive and the aliased stars to not look ugly.
>>
>>84756403
yeah I did notice the dithering, wasn't sure what was going on with that.. That doesn't add anything really
the stars look fantastic though

>>84753869
It's neat, but the gradients are wayy too subtle for a retro game look. Especially the glow around the stars.
>>
>>84753869
If you are going to use dithering to simulate an opacity on the sun's light, you can't then simply use true opaque white for the light on the stars. If you are going for a retro look, you have to go all in, these half assed retro stuff are the worst.
Do the pixel art by hand, or apply that gross low resolution filter on top of the whole image, but don't have a half lowres half highres image, it just looks lazy and ugly.
